Maddie: <Player's Name>, if we want to take on Mad Dog and their Irish gang, we must start here in Sinner's End, their stronghold.

The Flying Squad arrives to Sinner's End, a district well known for being the gang, prostitution, and alcohol-riddled part of Concordia, to investigate the Irish gang and their stronghold over the area, specially since Mad Dog, their leader, had been bribing the Chief Inspector for months as discovered in the previous case. There, it doesn't take long before Maddie and the player are informed about the body of Doctor Barnaby Wilson being dumped behind a pub after getting beaten to death.

Tropes:

  • The Bartender: Dermot McMurphy, the owner of the Paddy Whack's pub where the victim was also killed.
  • Battle-Interrupting Shout: Maddie does this to stop a brewing fight between Isaac and a drunken man before they can get at each other's throats.
  • Battleaxe Nurse: Jemima Hatchett, the nurse who worked along the victim, is shown to be a spiteful woman who thinks the people of Sinner's End don't deserve treatment, and even criticizes Dr. Wilson for being a Good Samaritan that "wasted" his time with them.
Jemima: Dr Wilson chose to help these sinners! But sinners shouldn't be helped, they should be PUNISHED!
  • Black Sheep: Lord Frederick Wilson, the victim's father, saw him as one of these, claiming that being a Good Samaritan that helped the people of Sinner's End made his family a laughingstock for other aristocrats.
  • The Brute: Kev O'Connell is a professional fighter who is also part of the Irish gang and serves as Mad Dog's personal muscle in case things get rough.
  • The City Narrows: Sinner's End serves as the seedy portion of Concordia, being a district bursting with crime, prostitution, lots of alcohol, underground fight clubs, etc, all of itcontrolled by the Flanagan siblings, Mad Dog and The Viper.
  • Commonality Connection: This case reveals that Evie and Diego have bonded into an Odd Friendship due to their mutual interest regarding famous authors.
  • Continuity Nod: Maddie recalls how Katherine Woolf sneaked into Evie's library back in Case 12.
  • Determined Doctor: Dr. Wilson was willing to venture into Sinner's End, probably the most dangerous place in all of Concordia, so he could provide aid to the poor people inhabiting the slums.
  • The Dreaded: Both Mad Dog and The Viper are this for the residents of Sinner's End, being the sibling leaders of the Irish gangsters that control the district. Marla claims that people only find the siblings if they want to be found, otherwise they end up dead.
  • Dry Crusader: At the end of the case, Mayor Castletown decides to make the selling of alcohol a criminal offense, believing that doing so will make crime stats go down. Needless to say, Maddie isn't pleased with these news.
  • Dumb Muscle: Kev is strong, but not bright in the slightest.
Kev: Not so good with the memory, me... Me mam always said I had the brawn but not so much the brains!
  • Family-Friendly Stripper: Marla de Paradis, a famous cabaret dancer who, according to Maddie, has a pretty "eye-opening" show.
  • Four-Leaf Clover: The victim was branded by the killer with this, which also happens to be the symbol of Mad Dog's gang.
  • Fight Clubbing: The victim was killed in an underground boxing ring inside of the Paddy Whack's, where death duels and bets were carried out by the Irish gang with the help of The Bartender Dermot.
  • Forgetful Jones: Going with being a Dumb Muscle, Kev also has a pretty terrible memory, which is implied to be product of all the head hits he has received as part of his profession.
  • Good Samaritan: The victim is described as having been a very selfless person by most of your suspects, which unfortunately didn't spare him from being murdered in a pretty brutal way.
Jemima: Oh, you couldn't have met a more selfless man. He eschewed his aristocratic status to come and help the poor souls of Sinner's End!
That altruistic doctor cared nothing for wealth of prestige. He spent his own money helping all manner of people... prostitutes, gamblers, alcoholics, even the odd gangster!
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Kev murdered Dr. Wilson because he was engaged with Marla, who Kev was madly in love with.
  • Honor Before Reason: Isaac almost engages into a fight against a drunkard after said drunkard insults him for sitting on his barstool, claiming that he has to defend his honor.
  • The Irish Mob: As it turns out, all of Sinner's End is in some way controlled by the Irish mafia of Concordia, from the alcohol production and pubs to the prostitution business, with Finley "Mad Dog" Flanagan and his sister Fiona "The Viper" Flanagan at the helm of the whole operation.
  • The Lost Lenore: Dr. Wilson becomes this for Marla in this case, as he was her fiance.
  • Love at First Sight: Isaac falls in love with Marla the moment he lays his eyes on her during the Additional Investigation, blushing, stuttering, and calling himself "Bisaac Ontemps" while presenting himself.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Kev killed Wilson because he wanted Marla to himself.
  • Mushroom Samba: Dick gets high on "shamrocks" during the autopsy report.
Dick: Do you see the little green men with ginger beards, <Player's Name>? Do you?
    Maddie: Er... everything alright, Dick?
Dick: Everything's just spiffing! A fellow sold me some shamrocks and told me if I smoked them I'd see leprechauns. And now I can count at least eight scurrying about!
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: The victim was killed by being suspended like a punching bag then beaten to death with the help of a spiky brass knuckle.
  • Passed-Over Inheritance: Dr. Wilson had left his fiancee Marla all of his money in case he died, which makes Maddie suspect her even more.
  • Power Fist: The victim was killed by being repeatedly hit with a spiky brass knuckle.
  • Red Light District: Combined with The City Narrows mentioned above, the district of Sinner's End is basically just a giant red light district for Concordia.
  • Saying Too Much: When you interrogate Kev about Mad Dog's whereabouts, he stubbornly refuses to rat out his boss... then accidentally slips out his routine anyway.
Kev: If only I were strong enough to break open these bars! Right now I'd be enjoying a nice glass of whiskey round the back of Paddy Whack's!
Good ol' Mad Dog would be joining me for a nightcap right about now...
Ach, hell, I shouldn't have told ye that, should I?
  • Ship Tease:
    • One between Isaac and Marla, with him being afflicted with Love at First Sight during their meeting in the Additional Investigation and Marla apparently taking interest in him too.
    • Another one also happens regarding Evie and Katherine, with Maddie commenting how close they've become ever since Katherine tried to sneak into her library, which makes Evie blush and stutter.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Siblings in Crime: Mad Dog and The Viper, also known as the Flanagan siblings, are the leaders of the Irish mob conducting most of the shady and illegal business of Sinner's End, and the Flying Squad has fixated their sights on them for the time being.
  • Spit Take: Maddie does this with a glass of champagne when Mayor Castletown announces alcohol will now be illegal in Concordia.
  • Tempting Fate: When Isaac prepares to meet Marla in the AI, he says he won't be charmed by her. He does the exact opposite.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Until this case, Maddie and Dermot used to be good friends until she discovered he was conducting an illegal fight club below his pub, which gets him arrested.
