Recap / Chucky S 3 E 3 Jennifers Body

Go To

Chucky's complex motivations are revealed. Tiffany is tried for Jennifer Tilly's murder spree.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Chucky appears to be hesitating when attempting to transfer his soul into Caroline. It's possible he has grown to care for her in his own twisted way and was having second thoughts.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Nica recites at trial all the things that Tiffany did to her: kidnapping her, dismembering her limbs, holding her hostage... and making her watch Liar Liar on loop. The last part is what really disturbs the court.
    • Jake, Devon and Lexy acting as character witnesses list Tiffany's voice among her many faults.
  • Back for the Dead: Subverted with Andy — Chucky appears to track him down and finally kill him, only for it to turn out to just be a Dream Sequence.
  • Becoming the Mask: As part of her Insanity Defense, Tiffany's lawyer claims this happened to Jennifer Tilly after she played Tiffany in Chucky Goes Psycho, the in-universe film from Seed of Chucky.
  • Berserk Button: Nica describes everything that Tiffany did to her in a reserved tone, but when Tiffany once again confesses her unrequited love to her, she loses her shit shouting what a maniac she is.
  • Call-Back: Chucky ties Andy to the bed like he did in Child's Play 2. He lampshades this by noting that it's "like old times".
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Nica doesn't even try to warn Caroline about Chucky after catching up to them.
  • Canon Welding: The Cold Open involves a taxi driver who thinks Chucky is an AI-powered robot for lonely children, implying the reboot is canon to the main series.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': Damballa abandoned Chucky for taking part in an exorcism, not taking his reasons into account.
  • Celebrity Paradox: Chucky mentions Twin Peaks, which featured Grace Zabriskie who had played one of his victims Grace Poole from the second film.
  • Courtroom Episode: Half of the episode focuses on Tiffany being put on trial for the crimes she's committed as Jennifer Tilly.
  • Credits Gag: The episode holds off on playing the gag of the "Chucky" logo made of various objects. Instead, we get an extended opening of Caroline and Chucky getting into a taxi with the cabbie played by Kenan Thompson. After Chucky murders him, his name is then credited, and then we get to the logo.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: When the taxi driver decides to let Caroline and Chucky out because he can't take listening to their talk about killing people, Chucky grabs an umbrella from under the seat, reclines the front seat all the way down, and shoves the umbrella all the way down the driver's throat. He then proceeds to open the umbrella, which splits the driver's neck open.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Even though Chucky's attempt to transfer his soul into her body didn't work, one would think that even attempting it would trigger alarm bells for Caroline, but she just calmly explains to him why it didn't work.
  • Divine Punishment: The exorcism that Chucky was involved with last season offended Damballa, so the voodoo god has cut Chucky off from his power, trapping Chucky in a doll body that is rapidly starting to age.
  • How We Got Here: This episode plugs the gap between the end of Season 2 and start of Season 3, showing how Chucky ended up in the White House.
  • Joker Immunity: Discussed. When Dr. Rosen tells Chucky he's dying, Chucky laughs it off saying he always comes back somehow.
  • Logical Weakness: Chucky and Caroline escape the pursuing Nica just by going down some stairs into a subway station, which the wheelchair-bound Nica obviously can't follow them down.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Chucky and Caroline get into the Amityville house by having Caroline pretend that she's a lost child. The presumed owner offers to help her and lets her inside. Immediately afterwards, Chucky slaughters everyone inside.
  • Police Are Useless: Despite specifically stating that one of the things that they're arresting Tiffany for is kidnapping Caroline, the police fail to notice the latter's presence, allowing her to run off with Chucky.
  • The Reveal: Chucky has made his way to the White House and started killing people there in order to fulfill a ritual that will reconnect him to Damballa, after the voodoo god rejected him for having been involved in Catholicism (via the exorcism last season).
  • Sarcastic Confession: While on trial, Tiffany tells her full life story (her real name, how she died and became a doll, possessing Jennifer Tilly, etc.), knowing that the court won't believe her, so that her lawyer can go for an Insanity Defense.
  • Seen It All: Everyone in the hospital is familiar with voodoo and not shocked to see a living doll.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: Done in a hilarious way with the cab driver.

    Special Guest Star: Kenan Thompson
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Nica manages to testify against Tiffany with the law on her side as no one seems to make an attempt to arrest her too, meaning she somehow cleared her name for the murders since Curse and the public thinks Tiffany committed those murders that Nica was Wrongly Accused for too and framed Nica for it.
  • Title Drop: Tiffany drops the title twice when giving her backstory.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Despite being familiar with Chucky, Dr. Rosen makes no attempt to protect himself. Subverted, as Chucky doesn't even try to kill him.
  • Witch Doctor: Chucky goes to see one when his doll body starts aging, who happens to be a regular doctor in a regular office who just specializes in voodoo-related matters.
Chucky: Gotta say, doc, you're not what I was expecting.
