Recap / Chucky S 3 E 4 Dressed To Kill

Go To

During the mid-season finale, the kids infiltrate a Halloween ball to stop Chucky.

  • 13 Is Unlucky: By the end of the episode the number of sacrifices in the White House has gone up to 13.
  • All for Nothing: All of Chucky's scheming and killing so far this season come to nothing, as it fails to appease Damballa, leaving him still dying.
  • And I Must Scream: Tiffany uses a voodoo doll to make Evelyn kill herself while Evelyn is fully aware that she's not in control of her body.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The nanny appears to have survived the chandelier, getting back up on her feet, only to drop dead after her face falls off.
  • Call-Back:
    • Evelyn is watching Bride of Frankenstein, which is the same movie Tiffany watched before having her soul transferred in Bride of Chucky.
    • For third Halloween in a row, Lexy finds herself getting hot and heavy in bed with a boy during a costume party. Only this time around, she's the one who walks out before things can progress further.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: While Tiffany used a voodoo doll to kill Evelyn, she keeps Erica Dorsett alive for now and instead commands her to help her escape from jail.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Tiffany's murder of Evelyn via voodoo doll required some lucky guesswork considering she couldn't see what was happening. Even if she kept a mental note of the layout of the kitchen she would have had no idea that Evelyn was holding a knife or where the potato peeler or the pot of boiling water were.
    • Keep in mind that the ‘Voodoo Doll’ is really a product of Hollywood. They (nor effigy pins of any type) don’t really feature in the Voudoun religion. As such, it’s easy to see how Tiffany’s doll could be used less as puppeteering and more issuing compulsive commands. Stab the doll’s eye and the subject is compelled to stab themselves with whatever’s at hand. Drown it in a toilet and they’re compelled to dunk their head in the nearest standing water, which in a kitchen might be a pot of boiling water. Granted this isn’t the way the doll worked on the doctor in the first film (which worked like we typically expect). But it’s not the first time the rules of magic in this universe have changed to suit the plot.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death:
    • Tiffany uses a voodoo doll to control Evelyn Elliot into mutilating herself with kitchen appliances before boiling her face off.
    • The seven people crushed by the chandelier. The ones shown in detail — the reporter cut in half and the nanny's face falling off — are particularly gruesome.
  • Diving Save: Jake does this to save Devon from the falling chandelier.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: A variation occurs when Jake, Devon, and Lexy attend the Halloween party dressed as different models of Good Guy doll.
  • Expy: Evelyn Elliot serves as a stand-in for Tiffany's former idol Martha Stewart after Martha was said to have been executed in Seed of Chucky.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Evelyn Elliot is friendly with "Jennifer" until Tiffany lets slip that she killed Jennifer's sister.
    • All the female inmates who have murdered someone before are absolutely horrified at Evelyn's death and most to all of them shriek in agony and shock over it with one of them even trying to talk Evelyn out of it.
  • Facial Horror:
    • The nanny Annie's face getting sliced off in graphic detail by the falling chandelier.
    • Evelyn Elliot's face melting off in gory detail after scalding herself in a pot of boiling water under voodoo control from Tiffany.
  • Falling Chandelier of Doom: Chucky kills seven people by dropping a chandelier on them.
  • Fingore: Tiffany makes Evelyn use a potato peeler on her fingers.
  • Five-Finger Fillet: Tiffany makes Evelyn play this game via voodoo.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: The White House Correspondent, Gretchen gets sliced in half by the falling chandelier.
  • Halloween Episode: The episode takes place on Halloween at the White House's Halloween Ball.
  • Improvised Weapon: After security confiscates everyone's weapons Jake arms himself with a corkscrew he finds upstairs.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Evelyn went to prison for murdering her husband and his lover then baking them into a pie. Tiffany then uses voodoo magic to mutilate Evelyn with her own kitchen utensils.
  • Police Are Useless:
    • The one prison guard supervising Evelyn while she teaches a cooking class does nothing except point her gun while Tiffany controls Evelyn to mutilate herself. But given Tiffany is an abuser of voodoo magic, there was nothing the guard could've done differently for Evelyn except a quick Mercy Kill.
    • Erica doesn't consider there might be a connection between Tiffany receiving voodoo supplies, including voodoo dolls, and Evelyn's bizarre death.
  • Prison Episode: The B Plot centers on Tiffany in a Texas prison while she awaits execution.
  • Selfie Fiend: Gretchen uses her final moments alive to take a picture of herself.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Grant calls Devon Bob the Builder due to the latter's Construction Good Guy costume.
    • Chucky dresses up like The Phantom of the Opera and sets up a chandelier to fall on several partygoers.
    • The president mistakes a killer for his deceased child after seeing them from behind, like in Don't Look Now. Except he survives the encounter.
    • Tiffany uses the voodoo doll to make Evelyn do the knife trick from Aliens.
  • Too Dumb to Live:
    • Erica spits her gum into Tiffany's food just to spite her, allowing Tiffany to control her via a voodoo doll.
    • Nobody standing under the chandelier thinks to get out of the way after one of the bolts falls.
  • To the Pain: Tiffany makes sure Evelyn suffers before finishing her off.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Despite Chucky providing even more sacrifices than he was required to, Damballa still isn't satisfied.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Upon finding out that his attempts to get in Damballa's good graces again have failed, Chucky punches the mirror and screams, "DAMBALLA! WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME!" and falls to his knees.
  • Voodoo Doll: Tiffany gets some mailed to her in prison and puts them to use, first using one to torture Evelyn to death and then taking control of her main guard.
  • Wham Shot: When Chucky removes his mask, he also removes his hair, which is actually a wig, revealing he now has the appearance of an old man.
