"We're at a grown up party!"

"Maybe we should do something actually fun."
—Linda

Linda decides she wants to be more spontaneous and interesting, and convinces Bob to accept an invitation to a loft party by their new hipster friends. Meanwhile, the kids convince their babysitter Jen to take her cousin's ice cream truck on a joyride, only to get stuck in the frozen rain.

Tropes:

  • Age-Gap Romance: Assuming Maya is as young as she looks and not nearly fifty like Becket, there's at least a decade between them and more likely two decades.
  • All Part of the Show: One of the attendants thinks Bob and Linda getting the kids' message and panicking is some sort of play.
  • Blatant Lies: Ms. LaBonz apparently told Pickles that it's her twenty-first birthday. Now, it could be her birthday. Her twenty-first birthday, on the other hand... Not so likely.
  • Brick Joke: Linda claiming Pickles is so-named because "they have really good pickles" in "Hamburger Dinner Theater" gets a pay-off nine seasons later with Bob getting distracted by how good the pickle Jen's cousin gives him to eat is.
  • The Bus Came Back: This is Jen the babysitter's first speaking appearance since "Uncle Teddy".
  • Calvinball: The kids show Bob and Linda the game they invented, "Throw Louise". Take a guess on how it's played.
  • Comically Missing the Point: The kids don't seem to realize that Jen's cousin is a stripper.
  • Continuity Nod: Pickles was first mentioned in "Hamburger Dinner Theater".
  • Cringe Comedy: Bob and Linda are usually mediocre at worst with their singing. Let's just say there's a new low point for them now.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: The kids' homemade game, "Throw Louise", is very aptly named.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Teddy is blatantly annoyed at the idea that Bob and Linda have other friends besides him.
  • Hipster: Maya and Becket and all their friends have esoteric jobs and hobbies, like making edible ukuleles or home-brewing whiskey.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Linda claims that she and Bob can sing for the performance circle, saying that they're like Linda Ronstadt and Bobby McFerrin. Naturally, when it's their turn to perform, they sing horribly.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Teddy thinks it's weird that Maya and Becket have started coming to the restaurant all the time, ignoring the fact that that's exactly what he does.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: Linda feels outclassed by all the hipsters at the loft party, and convinces Bob to sing with her during the "performance circle". When the truth comes out, Maya and Becket aren't that bothered by the deception, and even point out that the crazy misadventures Bob and Linda go through raising their kids are at least as interesting as anything they and their hipster friends do.
  • Kissing Cousins: Discussed; while Jen doesn't appear to have a thing with her hot cousin Dave, Bob uncomfortably takes note of the fact that she calls him her hot cousin in the first place.
  • Named Like My Name: When Linda claims she and Bob can sing, the singers she compares them to share the same first names.
  • Nice Guy: Maya and Becket are genuinely as nice as they appear to be, and even apologize to Bob and Linda when they realize they put too much pressure on them to perform and help them find Jen and the kids.
  • Oblivious to Their Own Description: Teddy is annoyed how Maya and Becket "decided to come here one day, liked the food, showed up more and more often and now they're here every single day", thinking it's "creepy". All Bob and Linda can think as a reply is a confused "uh..."
  • Older Than They Look: Becket is 49, older than both Bob and Linda.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Despite this being the first (and so far only) time Becket and Maya appear, Bob and Linda are very familiar with them.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Slippery Skid:
    • The Kids and Jen are stranded outside when, after convincing Jen to take them on her cousin's ice cream truck, the truck skids on a frozen road and find themselves unable to drive it back due to the ice.
    • Bob and Linda have to brave the icy sidewalks when going to pick up Jen and the kids.
  • Stripper/Cop Confusion: Tina is briefly convinced that one of the dancers at Pickles, who happens to be wearing a belly-baring cop costume, is an actual police officer.
  • Teachers Out of School: Ms. LaBonz is one of the patrons at Pickles.
LaBonz: (waving a $1 bill) George Washington says to get this show on the road!
  • You Are Grounded!: Linda grounds the kids at the end of the episode for sneaking out.
  • You Can Leave Your Hat On: Jen's hot cousin turns out to be a stripper working at Pickles; the ice cream truck is just a side-job he has during the summer.
