The Plantars are excited to travel to Newtopia, but Anne feels guilty that helping her may cost her adopted family their home, so she decides to disaster proof the house and garden.

Tropes in this episode:

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: The Fwagon is the first object in the show to be rendered in CGI.
  • Actually, That's My Assistant: When Anne sees a wagon driven by a large, muscular frog arrive, she thinks the driver is Hop Pop's friend Chuck, who is supposed to take care of the farm. Instead, he's just a taxi driver giving a ride to the real Chuck, the puny tulip farmer from a few episodes back.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Leopold Loggle tells Anne he has something to help with her plan, she waits for him to turn it negative like he frequently does whenever he says something important. He doesn't, and they both find it odd.
  • Blatant Lies: When the vegetables first come to life, Anne asks in a guilty voice how that could have happened.
  • Brats with Slingshots: Sprig has a whole collection of specialty slingshots, and he has some difficulty choosing which one to take.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: Hop Pop lists the threats to the farm as "wildfires, locusts, tornadoes, [and] flaming locust-tornadoes".
  • Brick Joke: When he first tries to decide which slingshot to pick, Sprig notes that Silver has never let him down before. When the vegetables first attack, he draws Silver and tries to fire it, only for it to break in half and smack him in the face.
    • The random frog who was snatched up by a dragonfly in "Anne or Beast?" appears once more, still being carried around by the dragonfly. He even lampshades how he's still up there after three months.
    • Anne's eyes turn blue again after the Veggie Giant destroys the house, just like they did when she was holding back the mantis in "Anne or Beast?". This time it's much more obvious, as they even glow, so it's definitely not an animation error.
    • Hop Pop remembers where he buried the Calamity Box back in "Bizarre Bazaar". In fact, he refuses to take it with them on the trip. Anne is also unaware he buried it in the first place.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Chuck doesn't say much apart from the fact that he grows tulips. He also is able to rebuild the Plantars' house in about 10 seconds. Hop Pop knows this, which is why he hired him in the first place to defend their house.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Anne is (still) recovering from the events of the season 1 finale.
    • Hop Pop gets his friend Chuck (the "I grow tulips" guy from "The Big Bugball Game") to watch over the farm.
  • Dual Wielding: Anne fights with a sword in one hand and a tennis racket in the other.
  • Evolving Credits: The shots in the opening of Anne and Sprig stalked by a monster behind them and the "BFFs" picture in a tree are replaced with Anne and Sasha sword-fighting while Marcy is in the background holding the Calamity Box.
  • Eye Scream: During her rage filled attack, Anne stabs the Veggie Giant in both of its veggie eyes. One with the blade of her sword, the other with the handle of her tennis racket.
  • Fusion Dance: After the mutant vegetables are seemingly defeated, they all join together into the Veggie Giant.
  • Genius Ditz: Chuck may be utterly incompetent in protecting himself from other beasts, but he can rebuild the Plantar farm lighting fast.
  • Homage: When the plants come together like a Combining Mecha, the horned head, body shape, and color scheme are clearly based on Getter-1 from Getter Robo but with gourds that resemble Shin Getter-1's Shoulders of Doom. As shown in this comparison video, the 'veggie robo' poses to dramatic lightning just like Getter-1, and the roar it makes is rather like the roars the Metal Beast Dragon makes when it was about to bite Shin Getter-1 in the neck during their Getter-on-Getter duel.
  • Horrifying the Horror: The Veggie Giant recoils in fear when Anne roars at it after her Eye Color Change.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Hop Pop uses a giant grater against a mutant potato.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Sprig, when Anne claims she's okay after what happened with Sasha in "Reunion".
    Anne: Totally fine!
Sprig: Oh, cool. Because if I had a fight like that, I'd be devastated! Heck, I'd be upset just hearing someone talk about it!
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: At the beginning of the episode, Anne declares, "New season, new possibilities!". While she was agreeing with Sprig's statement that Spring has arrived in Amphibia, it's also a nod to the fact that the second season of the show has begun.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Anne wants to make sure the Plantars' home is protected while they help her. Naturally, this fails miserably.
  • Nonchalant Dodge: The Veggie Giant tries to stomp on Anne, but she easily sidesteps it without even raising her head.
  • Not Hyperbole: The "flaming locust tornadoes" are a real thing. One tears through a windmill not long after Hop Pop mentions them.
  • Oblivious Guilt Slinging: Anne makes Hop-Pop feel guilty for burying the Calamity Box and hiding it from her when she says she trusts him.
  • Portmanteau: Hop Pop calls the family wagon a "fwagon".
    Anne: Not calling it that.
  • Road Trip Plot: This episode begins the season two arc of Anne and the Plantars travelling to Newtopia.
  • The Runt at the End: Loggle's potion transforms the vegetables into horrifying, monstrous abominations... except for one turnip, who becomes a derpy-looking creature with a big butt.
  • Stepford Smiler: When Sprig asks Anne if she's okay after fighting Sasha, she halfheartedly confirms it. Turns out she really hasn't gotten over it.
  • Status Quo Is God: The Plantars' farm is briefly destroyed but almost immediately rebuilt.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: When Anne enters Leopold Loggle's shop and Leopold sees the stuff she's carrying with her, he figures out she's planning to fortify her home.
  • String Theory: Sprig sets up one as he figures out which slingshot to take with him on the trip.
  • Trash the Set: Briefly. The Plantar house ends up getting destroyed by the combined vegetable monster, but it is quickly restored by Chuck.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Chuck's introduction involves him being attacked by a flying scorpion, bumping into a tree, and being attacked by even more bugs.
  • Wham Shot: When Anne realizes her plan to protect the house inadvertently led to its destruction, her eyes somehow turn blue and glow.
  • World-Healing Wave: Kind of. Chuck is able to restore the Plantar farm back to its original self after it gets destroyed by the vegetable monster.
  • Xenomorph Xerox: The eggplant monster's head and body made of vines give it an obvious resemblance to a Xenomorph.
