Sasha: yesterday's captive, today's second-in-command!

Far from Wartwood, Anne's friend Sasha is captured by toads.

    Full Recap
TBA...

This episode has examples of:

  • Anti-Villain: Sasha has agreed to work with Grime, but her intentions are to find and "rescue" Anne and Marcy from this Death World.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The herons are the biggest predators seen on the show yet, towering even over Grime's castle.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: After fending off the herons, Sasha reminds Grime of their deal, but he declares she is far too dangerous for him to let her leave, seemingly double-crossing her. But then he lowers his sword and says they both know he can't stop her, so instead he offers her a choice; she can leave like they originally agreed and try to survive in a dangerous and unknown world with Everything Trying to Kill You, or she can stay at Toad Tower with him as his second-in-command where she'll have respect and protection and they can help her find her friends.
  • Court Jester: Percy would rather be a clown than a guard, and puts on a classic three-pointed jester hat with bells when Sasha convinces him to follow his dreams.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Sasha, who was last seen at the end of "Best Fronds."
  • Debut Queue: Although making a cameo at the end of "Best Fronds", Grime makes his first official debut, while Sasha has her first speaking role.
  • Declaration of Protection: At the end of the episode, Sasha pulls out a photo of her friends and swears to find and rescue them- in the meantime, she’ll have fun with the place.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Grime punishes one of the toads by sentencing him to the pain room, because he was wearing his breastplate as pants.
  • The Dragon: Sasha gets promoted to be Grime's after helping repel the heron attack. She seems to enjoy the prospect.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The first time we see Sasha for more than a few seconds, immediately after Grimes yells about needing ruthless soldiers, she crushes a bug with a stone for getting too close to her food and then suddenly switches to sweet-talking Percy. It shows off that she's charismatic, but not necessarily a very good person.
  • Facepalm: Sasha does this when she wants Grime to compliment Percy, but he blurts out that he is a blubbering idiot.
  • Feathered Fiend: The herons, like all birds in the show so far, are nasty, blood-thirsty predators with sharp teeth.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: In the end, Grime gives Sasha a choice: either she is released and can be freed, or stay and be his second-in-command. Ultimately, she chose the latter... but when no one is looking vows to one day find the former.
  • Hidden Depths: Sasha has spent her time learning about the various toad soldiers' personal interests, such as Percy's desire to be a one-man band or Braddock's love for gardening.
  • Immediate Sequel: This episode begins where the previous one had left off, with the tax collectors arriving at Toad Tower to tell Grime about the presence of another human (Anne).
  • Inadvertent Entrance Cue: Grime commands everyone to be quiet so as not to attract the attention of the herons. Right on cue, Percy walks out of the castle in his one-man band gear, making enough noise for the herons to come over.
  • Jail Break: The episode title alludes to this. In the end, Sasha decides to stay.
  • Lima Syndrome: The series of guards looking after Sasha all took a liking to her, ending up on good enough terms to take her advice to quit.
  • Loud Gulp: Two of the toad soldiers do this when Grime furiously says that they have gone soft. One of these toads does this with a ribbiting sound.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Sasha shows off her skill in this, as the episode starts with her convincing the 5th guard who looked after her to quit and leave.
  • Meaningful Background Event: Right after Grime makes Sasha his second-in-command and walks away, if you listen closely, you’ll hear one of his underlings come up to him and say that Bog has just returned from Wartwood and is waiting in the briefing room. This indicates that this episode takes place at the same time as "Toad Tax," and that Sasha might be one step closer to finding Anne.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Grime initially sees all of his mooks as this. More specifically, Percy in particular would rather be a jester than a soldier.
  • Moral Pragmatist: Sasha convinces Grime to be nicer to his soldiers in order to get better results from them. And it works.
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Grime's proposal to Sasha is she can go free, and try to make her way as an alien being in an unfamiliar, highly dangerous world, or she can stay with him, where she's respected and protected as his second in command.
  • Orphaned Setup: While hiding with the others in the safe room, Percy starts to tell a joke that involves herons storming a castle (just like the ones that were attacking theirs right now). He is shut up by Grime.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Grime realizes that Sasha is telling the truth that she only wants to find her friends and means no harm, especially when they fend off the herons. He offers her a job, seeing she's valuable for boosting morale.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: Percy makes a pained confession of love to Braddock. She proceeds to slap him across the cheek, then pull him into a kiss.
  • Stock Scream: One of the toad guards lets out a Wilhelm scream.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Grime feels this way about his soldiers, who tend to fool around rather than obeying him. When, to Sasha's advice, he stops his Mean Boss tendencies and starts complimenting his soldiers, he's very surprised about how competent his soldiers become.
  • Synchronous Episodes: Bog showing up in the background at the end implies that the events of the previous episode took place concurrently to this one.
  • Villain Episode: The only characters in this episode are Grime, his mooks, and Sasha, who becomes Grime's second-in-command by the episode's end. The good guys don't make an appearance.
