S3, P1 - Ep 5: A Late Start To A Wacky World - Part 5
The Underdark Tournament begins, and Amity wins her first round but not in the way she wanted to. Meanwhile, Perry has figured out the girl's secret and incorporates it into his plans.
This chapter contains examples of:
- Accidental Murder: Amity accidently kills her opponent in the first round of The Underdark Tournament.
- Asshole Victim: Amity killed Hindter by accident in their fight, but considering he was fully prepared to kill her, a teenaged girl, for money its hard to feel bad for him.
- Attack Its Weak Point: An unintentional example on Amity's part. Apparently, bear demons have fragile skulls and Amity's Super-Strength powered kick turned his brain into mush.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: Perry joined All For One because he was the one who saved his life from a bunch of Emperor Coven members after he tried to report on a story that would have painted Belos in a bad light. He owed Shigaraki his life after that.
- The Berserker: Fitting for a Bear Demon, Hindter has been known to fight like this against particularly strong opponents in the tournament.
- Black Knight: The Blackguard's uniform certainly gives this impression.
- Blood from Every Orifice: As Hindter dies, blood leaked out of his eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Blood Lust: Hindter's eyes are described as being full of this when he's losing to Amity.
- Can't Get Away with Nuthin': Dr. Hilbert was a well-renowned scientist that was arrested the one time he tried making an illegal potion per the request of someone in the Emperor’s Coven. Said member was caught and executed for that, and Hilbert had been next in line for execution had Hunter not rescued him and brought him to Perry to live in The Underdark with his daughter.
- Control Freak: Belos is keeping Hunter on a tight lease.
- Curb-Stomp Battle:
- Implied with Kepke vs. Grun. Grun walked out of her fight without so much as a scratch on her body - which was insane considering cyclopses were naturally stronger and faster than witches.
- Hindter was unable to land a decent hit on Amity before the girl killed him.
- Daddy's Girl: Skara's very close to her father given how she pleaded to the Golden Guard to save him from his impending execution.
- Dark Is Evil: The Blackguard's Coven has black armor as their uniform color with a golden winged sword as their symbol and are enforcing All For One's will.
- Dark Secret: Unbeknownst to most, Perry's trying to recreate the Nomu and is collecting corpses for it.
- Disappointed in You: Subverted. Yoichi's frown at witnessing Amity accidently killing her opponent wasn't out of disappointment, but out of concern for the girl's mental wellbeing.
- Does Not Know His Own Strength: Amity claims to have fixed this problem since she was little. She is proven wrong after she accidently kills her opponent in the Underdark Tournament.
- The Dragon: Perry was All For One's second-in-command during the war, though most don't know that.
- Elemental Punch: Hindter can deliver a black fire punch.
- Elite Mook: The Blackguard ae elite soldiers who were commanded by Perry Porter and used to keep the peace in the Underground City.
- Faking the Dead: Everyone, including Eda, believed that Raine had perished in the war, with a grave for them. They had survived the mortal wound and had been in hiding for the past 14 years in The Underdark. Although this does come with the drawback of being tired of being cooped up in the Underdark and never coming to the surface.
- Helmets Are Hardly Heroic: Inverted for The Blackguard. The helmets they wear were based on the Human Realm's Medieval knights, and Perry had to admit, they looked very intimidating.
- Human Resources: Or rather demon resources in this case. Hindter's corpse is being taken by Perry's men to made into a Nomu.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Raine apparently took a spear to the chest by one of The Interloper's henchmen during the war, which was thought to have gone through their heart. Instead Raine survived.
- Internal Reveal: Perry has heard rumours of someone called Shigaraki arriving in Bonesborough and wants to join forces with them to overthrow Belos and liberate the Boiling Isles from the tyrant.
- Jawbreaker: Hindter's jaw gets broken by Amity's kick.
- Large-Ham Announcer: Raine acted as this during the tournament with their performance anxiety a non-issue due not being visible to the audience.
- Living a Double Life: To the people of Bonesborough, Perry's just a TV reporter. In the Underdark City, he's their Rebel Leader plotting to overthrow Belos.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Eda has no idea that Raine is alive and her friend Perry is The Dragon to All For One. Perry believes once she finds out the truth the Owl Lady won't take it well.
- Mad Scientist: Dr. Hilbert was part of the Emperor Coven's science division and is now trying to recreate the Nomu for Perry.
- Major Injury Underreaction: Hindter's reaction to Amity breaking his jaw is to chuckle and comment he underestimated the girl.
- Mama Bear: Perry figures out Amity came to the Underdark tournament without parent’s knowledge, due seeing Odalia as a guard dog when comes to her kids.
- Manipulative Bastard: Perry described Odalia as this prior to her encounter with All For One.
- Mighty Glacier: Hindter's this to Amity: Big, tough but not nearly as fast.
- Mole in Charge: Darius infiltrated the Coven system to take it down from the inside after rising to a high position, having officially become the Abomination Coven Head. However, given his position and what it was he has to do, it makes things a lot hard on the man to carry out his role. After all, he had less time in the day to meet up with Perry to report back on any information when he could. His tight schedule already made that difficult, so tasking him with something else like tracking down Toshiko just seemed too cruel to Perry.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Amity is horrified when she accidently kills her opponent in The Underdark Tournament. This gives her a brief Heroic BSoD.
- Necessarily Evil: Perry's fully aware of Shigaraki's Witch Experimentation, as the villain wouldn’t take up the opportunity to do something to people whom he saw as worthy vessels. Perry saw it as evil, yes, but ta necessary evil, with The Blights as a prime example by recreating One For All through Amity.
- No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Implied with what Jadestone did to Juger, as he left the ring victorious with his fists drenched in blood.
- Not in This for Your Revolution: Hunter's not a follower of All For One, seeing him as a monster, but secretly works with The Underdark to overthrow Belos. Perry is starting to suspect Hunter has no real loyalty to them.
- Not Quite Dead: Generations after his death, Yoichi's soul was dormant within One For All and is now being woken up by Amity.
- Our Demons Are Different: Hindter's a bear-like Bipedal Demon able to access magic, although its generated directly from his heart, as he had no bile sac to use magic from.
- Outside-Context Problem: Yoichi sees Amity as this.
- Papa Wolf: Perry's initially reluctant to send his son to Hexside, fearing that the branded with their Sigils knowing what the Day of Unity is really about.
- Pet the Dog: Hunter helped Skara's father at her request escape his impending execution and move to The Underdark at great personal risk to himself.
- Playing with Fire: Hindter has access to a unique Fire Magic.
- Power Copying: Dr. Hilbert was able to make a copy of the Quirk "Super Regeneration" and Super Strength from a sample that was left behind by The Doctor. However, the part he's struggling with was the fact that he can’t get the copied Quirk to stick with the new bodies. They would appear and then filter out.
- Psychic Link: Yoichi's developing one with Amity.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Doctor Garaki left the Boiling Isles in a hurry when Shigaraki had noted they were out of Titan's Blood and would eventually be stranded in the Demon Realm.
- Secret Secret-Keeper: Perry figures out Amity's Quirk is One For All, unbeknownst to her.
- Snakes Are Sinister: One of the Blackguard's scouts has a snake Palisman.
- Sickening "Crunch!": Hindter's skull makes this sound as Amity kicks him in the head a little too hard, killing him, much to her horror.
- So Proud of You: Perry is proud of Gus for wanting to step up for their cause, despite wanting to keeping him out of harm's way.
- Strict Parents Make Sneaky Kids: The main reason why he allows Gus to act as his spy act Hexside is because he knows him well enough to try doing it anyway behind his back.
- Super-Speed: An aspect of Amity's Quirk is called "Lightning Mode", makes her so fast that it was as if the world was slowing down around her. Her eyes can comprehend light faster than others when she had activated this part of her power, allowing her to perceive the world slower than others due to how fast she was moving.
- Technicolor Fire: Hindter's "Beast Flames" are black in color.
- These Hands Have Killed: Amity doesn't take her Accidental Murder of the Bear Demon well. While the young witche wasn’t afraid of bloodshed, that didn’t mean she liked it.
- Took a Level in Kindness: This happened to Odalia spanning 14 years before the story began, going from an evil woman to the core to a doting mother.
- Underestimating Badassery: Hindter assumes beating Amity will be a cakewalk, completely unaware she's a wielder of One For All. He lampshades he shouldn't have done this trope before he dies.
- Undying Loyalty:
- The Blackguard are this to the cause, not their boss. These soldiers would turn on Perry the instant they believed he no longer stood for what they believed in, not that he was afraid of that possibility.
- Perry sees his dedication to All For One as second to none and would gladly give it to overthrow the tyrant they lived under.
Never once had his heart waivered, nor were his actions unclouded. - Villainous Friendship:Perry holds Dr. Garaki in high regard even after 14 years since they last saw each other.
- Villainous Rescue: Perry planned to rescue Amity if she got into too much danger in the Deadly Game, due to be the daughter of his old friend Odalia.
- Wild Card: Amity considers Grun to be this due to being a powerful wild witch.
- Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: The crowd cheering for Amity for killing her opponent just makes her feel nauseous instead of proud.
