Go To

S2 - Ep 1: Summer Break Shenanigans - Part 1

Luz starts training her body as she tries to readjust to normal life. She decides to become one of her realms first superpowered vigilantes to protect Gravesfield.

This chapter contains examples of:

  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: Luz has to be careful with her Super-Strength Quirk so that she can avert Does Not Know His Own Strength with her phone or other people. Its why she had been practicing controlling her power output, and thankfully no accidents have happened so far.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Luz still has the reputation of the strange kid, now with less to do with the fact that she was overall goofy and more to do with the fact that she was silent and barely talked to anyone.
  • Alpha Bitch: Amber Stirwell is this in Luz's middle school and hasn't changed.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Amber and Natasha have brown skin. But its unknown what their races are.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: Luz wears a black suit one as part of her vigilante costume. She can also kick a lot of ass with her many Quirks.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Luz rescues a girl after being kidnapped by 2 armed robbers
  • Bigot with a Badge: Luz recounts a time when she punched a cop into a telephone pole for making a racist remark about her mother after he accused her of speeding. Although she did have to spend time in a police cell for that.
  • Breather Episode: Compared to previous and next chapter, this one is n't as dark or violent.
  • Broken Bird: Having suffered a lot as at the Death Camp has made Luz a very cynical and violent girl. Time has not healed this child.
How could she feel the same passion for what she did after that week in literal hell? After seeing all that needless violence. After feeling all of that blood on her skin — blood that wasn’t hers. How could she take even the slightest bit of joy out of anything she did knowing that she was a mass murderer, who would never be punished for her actions?
  • Brought Down to Badass: After her Heroic RRoD, Luz had to give away 18 of the 28 Quirks she gathered at the Death Camp for the sake of her health. This doesn't prevent her kicking any less ass.
  • Clothing Damage: A shogun blast from one of the robbers damages Luz's suit, exposing part of her bra.
  • Corrupt Politician: Rodger Maxwell was very much this.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Those bank robbers never stood a chance against Luz. Neither did Amber.
  • Cruel Cheerleader: Amber is this to Luz, being a cheerleader and her main bully in middle school and preventing her from making any friends.
  • Defensive "What?": Luz has this reaction people start staring at standing up to her former middle school bully, they immediately pretend that they didn't see anything.
  • The Dog Bites Back: At a donut shop, one of Luz's former bullies tries to antagonise her, only for the teen to put her in place.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Luz ended up tearing the getaway van of the bank robbers in half by accident.
  • Fiery Redhead: Averted with Natasha Nolsen, you far more level headed and less confrontational than Amber.
  • Gender-Concealing Voice: Luz's voice changer makes sound like a guy, helping her hide her Secret Identity. Although the kidnapped teen girl figures out she's a girl.
  • Grew a Spine: Before gaining her powers, Luz admits she never stood up to her bullies at school. After the Death Camp Incident, she now has no quarrels about threatening them or getting physically violent with them if they start shit with her.
  • Growling Gut: Due to skipping breakfast, Luz has this when she passes the donut shop.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Luz notes she's got worsening anger issues due to her trauma.
  • He Knows Too Much: AS pair of bank robbers, who kidnapped a teenager while escaping the police planned to do this to her. Luckily, she's rescued by Luz.
  • Heroic Build: Downplayed. Within a month, Luz goes from a scrawny kid to having an impressive athletic physique for a teenaged girl, but not quite Amazonian Beauty yet.
  • I Warned You: The look Natasha gives Amber after getting beaten up by Luz pretty much says this.
  • It's All My Fault: Luz still blames herself for what happened to Julia.
  • Karma Houdini: Luz sees herself this for killing twenty people and being allowed to walk free.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: The opening of the chapter reveals that former Antagonistic Governor Rodger Maxwell has been sentenced to life in prison for his many crimes, without the possibility of parole.
  • Moving Angst: Averted. Rather than be against the idea, Luz appears to be somewhat glad to making a fresh start in a new house. Though she admits she's rather sad as she had fond memories of of her old house but is scarred that she wants to forget the past and move on. It does help that the new house wasn’t that much different from the old one.
  • Mugging the Monster: Amber thought she could Luz like she could back in middle school. Considering that she had no idea Luz has a 2-digit body count, various superpowers (including Super-Strength) and a nastier temper, Amber got off easy being shoved to the ground.
  • Muggle Best Friend: Amber is this to Natasha.
  • Mythology Gag: Luz gains a scar over eye from her "Quirk Overload" much like she got from her fight with Belos in the finale of Season 2.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: Luz's therapist noted that extreme reluctance to form meaningful relationships, friendships or otherwise because she was afraid to lose them; just like how she lost Julia.
  • No-Sell: Amber tries shove Luz only for her stand in place thanks to her Super-Strength and Super-Toughness.
  • Not Brainwashed: Luz is a lot more violent person now as a coping mechanism for her PTSD, and according to her, Shigaraki wasn't to blame as they hadn't spoken to each other in the month time gap.
  • Otaku: One thing that hasn't changed about Luz, is that she makes loves making Anime Music Videos (AMVs) and reading manga. She has a Good Witch Azura-themed wallet. Even though they don't give her the same joy as it used to.
  • Power Parasite: "All For One" allows Luz to give and take Quirks from others. The process is painful for the person getting the Quirk drained from them, in some cases resulting in brain death due to the strain. The more Quirks the user has taken, the more strain it puts on her body. If she exceeds a certain limit, Luz’s body will begin to implode on her, which is life-threatening. The following Quirks Luz has are currently:
    • Absurdly Sharp Claws: "Spear Fingers" is a Quirk that allows Luz to turn her fingers sharp and pointed like spears, and fire them toward people like extendable polearms from a distance of 25 meters.
    • Barrier Warrior: "Forcefield Projection" allows Luz to create a near-invincible forcefield in front of her that can withstand any kind of attack. The limit as to what it can withstand is, at most, an atomic-level explosion without cracking the forcefield, anything beyond that and the forcefield will begin to break after a couple of attacks. The forcefield will absorb any and all energy of the attack, allowing Luz complete and total protection. However, it can only protect in front of Luz. Multiple powerful blows will slowly chip away at its absorption, like most absorbing Quirks. Alternatively, Luz can shoot these forcefields at a target, and the more power they have absorbed, the more devastating the blows from the forcefields become.
    • Feels No Pain "Pain Nullification" is a Quirk that allows Luz to completely nullify any and all pain of any kind.
    • Healing Factor: "Super Regeneration" is a Quirk that allows Luz to recover from life-threatening wounds, up to and including missing limbs, missing chunks of organs or entire organs, bones, muscles, and skin. The process is quite painful, and often leaves scars, but nothing too damaging.
    • Long-Lived: "Longevity" is Quirk that triples Luz's lifespan. For example, if Luz’s lifespan is 89 years, then with this Quirk, her lifespan jumps to 267 years.
    • Not Quite Flight: "Airwalk" gives Luz the ability to float upward infinitely. However, she can't move in any other direction. She can, however, move downward. Propulsion using any other ability can be used to allow Luz to move in any direction she wishes. But aside from that, it is only used to scale high surfaces.
    • Spring Coil: "Springlike Limbs" allows Luz to coil her bones and muscle’s like springs, giving her heightened resistance to drawback, knockback, or kickback to any of her attacks, allowing her to absorb 3,000 tonnes of force. Depending on the usage, she can also launch her limbs outward around 5 feet from her body, and recall them back, like that of a spring. It can also be used to jump high altitudes, easily covering small skyscrapers In a Single Bound.
    • Super-Strength: A Quirk that gives Luz superhuman levels of strength, relative to her own physical body’s strength. The stronger she was before having the Quirk, the stronger she is with the Quirk. For example, if Luz can regularly lift heavy boulders with ease, she can now lift cars with ease. This will of course continue to grow as the person becomes stronger, and has no set limit. Right now she can deadlift a full-grown tree.
    • Super-Toughness: "Shock Absorption" is a Quirk that allows Luz to tank around 300,000 metric tonnes of force without any drawback to Luz’s physical body in a single blow. However, it can be worn down by the use of repeated, constant action applied at a constant rate, I.E. fire.
    • Victory by Endurance: "Stamina Negation" is a Quirk that allows Luz to negate all Stamina depletion. She can never grow tired, although this doesn’t negate the need for sleep.
  • Precision F-Strike: Amber calls Luz a "fucking whore" after being shoved to ground by her for annoying her. One of the robbers shouts "FUCK YOU!" before shooting Luz.
  • The Promise: Luz remembers the one she gave to herself and the pastor to avenge Julia's death and protect her community from threats.
  • The Quiet One: Luz becomes this after the traumatic events of the first arc.
  • Rags to Riches: Downplayed. With the Quirk her daughter gave her, Repair, has improved Camila's veterinarian skills to the point that she now runs her very own animal hospital. Thanks to that, she and her daughter no longer live in that small lower-class house and are able to afford a better home for 2 to have a fresh start.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Luz eyes briefly flash red when Amber tries to pick a fight with her.
  • Redeeming Replacement: It seems Luz has taken the "All For One" as this when becoming a vigilante.
  • Rejected Apology: When girl called Natasha tries to apologise to Luz for not defending her from her bullies out of peer pressure when they tried to be friends, Luz stops her, saying its not wanted or needed.
  • Scars Are Forever: After imploding from having too many Quirks, Luz gains a minor scar over her eye and larger lightning scar across her torso that her Healing Factor can't get rid of.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After seeing his partner thrown into a fire hydrant by Luz, the other bank robber tries to scram but doesn't get after as the superhuman stomps on his heel, breaking his foot before Luz knocks the guy out cold.
  • Secret Identity Vocal Shift: Luz uses her voice changer to hide her identity.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: One of the robbers thought so, though it wasn't very effective on Luz who has "Shock Absorption" power.
  • The Shrink: Luz has been seeing one.
  • Sickening "Crunch!": This happens when Luz cracks Amber's shoulder blade with her bare hands.
  • Smug Smiler: Amber was this until Luz got sick of her and fought back.
  • Smug Snake: Amber fought she could pick on Luz like she did back in middle-school. Luz quickly corrected that way of thinking by kicking her ass and threatening to do worse next time.
  • Social Media Before Reason: Downplayed. Many witnesses' reaction to the "fight" between Luz and Amber that breaks out in the donut shop they're in is to record it for social media.
  • Suspicious Ski Mask: The two bank robbers wear these.
  • Survivor's Guilt: Luz still has nightmares about failing to save Julia.
  • Tank-Top Tomboy: Luz is this when exercising.
  • Tap on the Head: Luz knocks out the last bank robber with a chop on the back of his neck.
  • Terrifying Rescuer: After taking out the two bank robbers, the kidnapped redhead girl begins begging to Luz on her knees for her life, as her presence more sinister than the criminals. Luckily, for her Luz believes her when she explains she was brought along the heist against her will and leaves her in peace.
  • Terror Hero: Luz's goal for herself Is to become the Symbol of Justice and Fear.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted. Luz has been seeing one due to her PTSD from her Death Camp experience.
  • Time Skip: A month has past since the last chapter.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: Even early than canon before reaching The Boiling Isles. Luz has become closed off towards people after the events of the Death Camp.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Luz mentions that cream-filled donuts are one of Camila's favourites.
  • Training from Hell: Averted. Luz, taking Shigaraki's advice, has taken up an exercise regiment in a nearby forest to increase the number of Quirks her body can hold at a time and fight off the Addictive Magic urge.
  • Vigilante Man: Luz becomes one under the name "All For One".
  • Wolverine Claws: Luz usmakes her presence known to a pair of bank robbers, who kidnapped a teenager while escaping the police, by using her Spear Fingers by stabbing through the windshield to grab their car radio and ends up ripping the entire car in half, scaring the hell out of them out of the second half of their getaway vehicle.
  • Would Hit a Girl: A pair of bank robbers kidnapped a teenager while escaping the police because she was a witness and planned to do her in. They had no quarrels about shooting Luz, an even younger girl, at point-blank range with a shotgun. Good thing her Shock Absorption could tank that.

“You can call me… All For One.”
