Recap / Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog S 01 E 32 Sonic Gets Thrashed

Go To

The thirty-second episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

When Robotnik opens up a resort to make the resident Mobians his slaves, Sonic enlists the help of the citizens of Scrap Valley - robots created by Robotnik but rejected due to their flaws.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Bag of Kidnapping: When Robotnik finds out that Sonic is sabotaging the grand opening of Robotnik Lagoon, he orders Scratch and Grounder to find Sonic. When they attempt to do so, Torch and O-Zone trap them in bags.
  • Bungling Inventor: Wallce A. Ditzo is an inventor robot, but was thrown into the Scrap Valley junkyard by Robotnik because his inventions never work how he intends them. His fire extinguisher, for example, turns whatever he sprays with it into guacamole.
  • Burning with Anger: Torch spits fire whenever he loses his temper.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Robotnik shows no empathy for the reject robots he threw out, considering them no more than 'rusty objects' beneath his notice.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Perhaps a literal example; while aboard the Blimpnik, Robotnik is shown to have a Hedgehog Harpoon that he intends to finish Sonic off with. This is how Sonic tricks Robotnik into popping the Blimpnik.
  • Chekhov's Skill: The various "flaws" that the robots of Scrap Valley have turn out to be instrumental in sabotaging Robotnik's grand opening; O-Zone's lousy weather opens doors, Torch's flame helps redirect water pipes etc.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Chef Wolfgang Puke was build to be Robotnik's personal gourmet chef, but somehow the wiring in his head got crossed. This results in him creating bizzare and disgusting dishes that even lead to Tails feeling ill at the sight of them.
Wolfgang: Nothing less than my truimph! My cullinary masterpiece!
(shows his pan to Sonic, who does a Wild Take)
Wolfgang: Rotten eggs and mmmmaggot Surprise!
  • Crazy-Prepared: Robotnik apparently anticipated that Sonic might try to board his Blimpnik and steal his plans for Club Robotnik. Thus, when Sonic does just that, he falls foul of a restraining trap Robotnik had set into the wall just in case.
  • Don't Try This at Home: After Sonic runs onto a steel girder in the shape of a loop to launch himself onto the Blimpnik, he turns to the viewers and says, "Kids, don't try this at home."
  • Didn't See That Coming: Robotnik doesn't consider the robot inhabitants of Scrap Valley a threat, dismissing them as 'rusty objects'. Therefore, he isn't prepared when Sonic rallies them to sabotage his grand opening of Club Robotnik.
  • Embarrassing Old Photo: During Robotnik's speech, Sonic and the Scrap Valley robots mess with the monitors to show an image of him looking like a pig, and a photo of him being caught by surprise in the shower. Even Scratch and Grounder can't help but giggle at the second one, even while Robotnik orders them to cut the monitors.
  • Engineered Public Confession: Sonic, Tails, and the Scrap Valley robots mess with Robotnik's speech in a way similar to a scene in Batman Returns.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: This exchange occurs when Sonic confronts Scratch after escaping from Robotnik's trap:
    Scratch: Yes?
Sonic: Thought you'd like to know, I've escaped.
Scratch: Oh, thanks. Hey, Boss, Sonic just stopped by to tell you he's escaped.
    (Beat)
    Scratch: Huh?
    Robotnik: What?! Grab him!
  • Fantastic Slurs: Implied; when Sonic calls Wallace and Torch "defective", Wallace becomes sensitive and tells Sonic that they prefer the term "mechanically challenged".
  • Fan Disservice: While funny, seeing a photo of Robotnik naked in the shower is also a bit disturbing.
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: Torch was created by Robotnik to be an awesome flamethrower superweapon, but was sent to Scrap Valley due to his temper problem.
  • Geek: Wallace A. Ditzo. He wears coke bottle glasses and has a noticable lisp, as well as being a Bungling Inventor.
  • Green Aesop: This episode's "Sonic Says" segment has Sonic explain to Tails and the viewers how trash can add up based on their actions, and encourage them to recycle.
  • Green Around the Gills: Tails turns a sickly green when Wolfgang shows off the rotten eggs and maggot Surprise he cooked.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Torch, a flame-throwing superweapon robot, flies off the handle whenever he feels he's being insulted. This combined with his tendency to spit super-hot flames when angered was what got him thrown into Scrap Valley by Robotnik.
  • Humiliation Conga: Sonic, Tails, and the Scrap Valley Robots do everything they can to ensure that the grand opening of Robotnik's resort goes wrong; they humiliate Robotnik with embarrassing photos, sabotage his speech by replacing his voice with Sonic's, replace his cake with one filled with live snakes, and weaken the pillars so that the resort will collapse when he cuts the ribbon. When Robotnik attempts to flood Scrap Valley anyway as a last resort, Sonic, Tails, and the Scrap Valley robots were prepared for that, too; they rerouted the water pipes to send Robotnik up on a geyser.
  • Instant Wristwatch: Sonic wears one on the day of the grand opening to time the sabotage.
  • Is This Thing Still On?: Robotnik has an EPIC Villainous Breakdown and complains that Sonic constantly ruins his plans to enslave Mobius, not knowing that Sonic is recording the whole thing.
  • Just Between You and Me: With Sonic captured aboard his Blimpnik, Robotnik reveals his plan to complete Club Robotnik by flooding Scrap Valley and turning it into Robotnik Lagoon.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: One of the robots in Scrap Valley is a chef robot named Wolfgang Puke, a parody of Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck. Furthermore, the robot's name may or may not be a Take That!.
  • Noodle Incident: While boasting about the genius of his plan, Robotnik gleefully mentions inventing an 'exploding church pew'.
  • One-Wheeled Wonder: Wolfgang is shown to stand on one wheel.
  • Produce Pelting: Once Sonic exposes Robotnik's evil plan to the citizens of Mobius, they all toss tomatoes at Robotnik.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Robotnik yells out his catchphrase like this after Club Robotnik collapses.
    "IIIIII! HAAAAAATE! THAAAAAAT! HEEEEDGEHOOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!"
  • Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony: On the day of the grand opening, Sonic, Tails, and the robots of Scrap Valley sabotage Robotnik's plan so that the resort will collapse when he cuts the ribbon (and it does).
  • Spotting the Thread: Sonic disguises himself as a pizza man so Scratch and Grounder will let him into the Blimpnik. Scratch and Grounder discover that the pizza man is really a disguised Sonic due to two flaws in Sonic's plan; nobody delivers to a blimp, and as they're robots, they don't need to eat.
  • Trap Door: When Scratch and Grounder step on a rug after realizing that the pizza man who came to the Blimpnik is really a disguised Sonic, Sonic pulls a nearby lever, revealing a trap door underneath the rug that they fall through.
  • Turned Against Their Masters: The robots who live in Scrap Valley were created by Robotnik, but thrown into Scrap Valley for various flaws. Sonic befriends the robots and helps them save their home from Robotnik.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: After seeing Wolfgang's "dish", Tails turns green and runs off, presumably to be sick.
  • Watch Out for That Tree!: Peeper the spy robot can see two thousand miles away. However, he can't see any closer than that, which leads to him crashing into things all the time.
  • Weather-Control Machine: O-Zone is a robot built by Robotnik to be this. He was rejected because he can only make lousy weather - snowstorms specifically.
  • Who's on First?: When Sonic and Wallace are preparing to start their sabotage on Robotnik's resort opening, Wallace shouts "Roger!", only for Sonic to get confused at that.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: As part of the plan to sabotage the grand opening of Robotnik's new resort, Wolfgang switches Robotnik's cake with an identical one filled with live snakes.
