Go To

The thirty-third episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

When Scratch and Grounder rocket to outer space to mine a radioactive mineral from asteroids, Sonic and Tails stow away onboard their rocket ship. The four then come to an abandoned space station, where they have an encounter with a sick and hungry slime monster.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Title: Spaceman Sonic.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: This line from Robotnik:
"You lost my rocket ship, you let the hedgehog ruin my plans, AND NOW YOU'RE RUNNING UP MY LONG-DISTANCE BILL!"
  • Big "WHY?!": This episode gives us this quote from Dr. Robotnik as he yells at his minions:
Robotnik: "WHY is my precious rocket-ship drifting off into deep space?! WHY am I reaching you at the coordinates of the abandoned space station?! WHY?! WHY?! WHY?!"
Scratch (to Grounder): You take the first two questions, I'll answer the last three.
  • Blob Monster: Sonic and Tails come across a hungry and sick Slime Monster who tries to eat them.
  • Enemy Mine: When Robotnik remotely controls one of Grounder's weapons to destroy the escape pod and leave Sonic, Tails, Scratch, and Grounder stranded in the space station, it takes everyone involved, including the Slime Monster, teaming up and using Scratch and Grounder's robotic body parts to repair the escape pod for them to make it back to Mobius alive.
  • Exit, Pursued by a Bear: This episode ends with Robotnik being chased by the Slime Monster from the space station Sonic and Tails were on after Sonic promises that he can eat Robotnik if he helps them get back to Mobius.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: After Robotnik destroys the escape pod and Scratch and Grounder, Sonic and Tails rebuild the escape pod using Scratch and Grounder's parts as replacements for the missing and/or heavily damaged parts.
  • Improvised Parachute: The Slime Monster shapes himself into a parachute as he, Sonic, Tails, Scratch, and Grounder descend back to Mobius.
  • Losing Your Head: Happens to Scratch and Grounder after Robotnik destroys them. Being robots, they're of course still able to communicate with Sonic and Tails.
  • Mythology Gag: After Grounder breaks the power switch and is unable to power the rocket back up, Scratch says that they're drifting into the Star Light Zone.
  • Reaching Between the Lines: Robotnik's head pops out of Grounder's robocom phone several times during his phone call to Scratch and Grounder.
  • Rouge Angles of Satin: When Scratch and Grounder are tricked into writing "I will not park my rocket ship in a no parking zone" ten thousand times by Sonic, they spell "Park" with three R's. As Sonic runs across the rocket ship to move it to the abandoned space station, a piece of paper with "I will not parrrk my rocket ship in a no parking zone!" written on it can be seen.
  • Sick Episode: In this episode, the Slime Monster has a cold, and as his doctor advised him thirteen years ago to feed it, he tries unsuccessfully to eat Sonic and Tails. This episode's "Sonic Says" segment has Sonic advise both the Slime Monster and the viewers on how to take care of themselves when they get sick.
  • Sneeze of Doom: After rebuilding the escape pod with Scratch and Grounder's parts, Sonic and Tails don't have a way to power it. Fortunately, Sonic comes up with a solution, and has the Slime Monster's sneezes propel them back to Mobius.
  • Space Episode: Robotnik sends Scratch and Grounder into space to mine radioactive materials from asteroids, and Sonic and Tails stow aboard their rocket to stop them.
  • Space Station: While onboard the rocket, Sonic spots an abandoned space station that the Mobius Government had to shut down after Robotnik stole its money. There is oxygen onboard the space station, which is why Sonic and Tails need to stop there when the rocket breaks down. Despite this space station not being owned by Robotnik like in the games, it's still very eerie, not helped by the slime monster wandering in the corridors looking for food.
  • Sticky Shoes: Sonic attaches horseshoe magnets to the feet of his spacesuit in order to run on the hull of Robotnik's rocket and roll it to a nearby space station.
  • Watch Where You're Going!: Sonic and Tails, fleeing from the Slime Monster, crash into Scratch and Grounder. This essentially alerts the former that the latter is chasing them, adding to their problems.
  • Writing Lines: Sonic disguises himself as a Space Patrolman and tricks Scratch and Grounder into writing "I will not park my rocket ship in a no parking zone" ten thousand times so that he and Tails can take over the controls.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Robotnik destroys Scratch and Grounder as well as the escape pod as retribution for messing up his plans.
