Basic Trope: Someone's swimsuit falls off after they jump into the water.

  • Straight: Alice jumps in the pool, and her swimsuit falls off.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice didn't even jump in the pool, she just lowered herself in and somehow lost her swimsuit anyway.
    • Everyone loses their swimsuits.
    • Alice's swimsuit completely disappears into thin air/water.
    • Alice falls into the pool wearing a suit and ends up naked.
    • Alice’s swimsuit comes off as she is swimming in the Olympic Games. Nobody notices; she wins first place and receives her gold medal on the podium. She has a Naked Freak-Out when she finds out she did it all naked.
    • Alice's unexpected, unwanted bout of Skinny Dipping goes viral.
    • Alice is wearing multiple swimsuits, all of which disappear as soon as she gets into the water.
  • Downplayed: Alice's swimsuit doesn't fall off entirely, but does end up exposing more of her than she wanted.
  • Justified:
    • Alice wasn't wearing a very tight swimsuit.
    • The swimsuit was pulled off somehow, either by someone else or by the water's currents.
    • The swimsuit suffered Critical Existence Failure from that last jump.
  • Inverted: Alice was Skinny Dipping, but when she jumped into the water she somehow put on a swimsuit.
  • Subverted:
    • Alice jumps into the water and sees a swimsuit that looks like hers floating, but it's revealed that it was just Carol's.
    • For whatever reason, Alice actually meant to take off her swimsuit.
  • Double Subverted: And then Alice goes into a whirlpool and gets her swimsuit caught in the machine that makes the bubbles — she couldn't have prepared for that.
  • Parodied: Alice was wearing a tight, one-piece swimsuit, and yet somehow the entire thing falls off seconds after she lowers herself into the water.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Multiple characters jump in the pool. Some lose their swimsuits, and some don't.
    • For whatever reason, Alice's swimsuit goes off and on her.
  • Averted:
    • Alice's swimsuit stays on.
    • Alice doesn't go swimming.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "Did her swimsuit just fall off?"
  • Invoked:
  • Exploited: Alice has repeated bad luck with her swimsuit coming off whenever she jumps into the pool. When a magical swimsuit clings onto her, she jumps into a pool to get it off.
Alice: YES! I never thought I'd be so happy to be stripped naked in public!
  • Defied:
    • Alice wears a tight swimsuit or holds onto it as she jumps in the pool.
    • Alice avoids jumping in the pool.
    • Alice strips down to her birthday suit on her own initiative before she gets in the pool.
  • Discussed: "This is the fifth swimsuit that's fallen off me this month. What is wrong?"
  • Conversed: "A hot girl loses her swimsuit — that never gets old!"
  • Implied:
  • Played for Laughs: Naked People Are Funny combined with Cringe Comedy.
  • Played for Drama:
    • Alice is embarrassed due to being naked in the pool.
    • Alice gets in trouble due to public nudity.
    • Bob thinks Alice is coming on to him and he doesn't take it well when she corrects him.
  • Played for Horror: The pool is filled with caustic acid. First Alice's swimsuit dissolves, next her skin...
  • Deconstructed:
    • Alice is running out of money with which to buy swimsuits.
    • Alice can't go to that pool or beach anymore.
  • Reconstructed: She solves both problems at a stroke by going to a nude-friendly pool or beach and embracing the world's habit of getting her nude.
