Basic Trope: A government or private organization peddles biased information or outright lies with the intent of arousing support for it's cause, right or wrong.
- Straight: The Evilian Ministry of Truth was created with the task of keeping the gullible citizenry under the thumb of the Empire of Evilus by bolstering their trust in it's activities and the activities of it's fellow subordinate ministries through the use of appealing lies, Astro Turfing, convincing the people that the empire is Repressive, but Efficient, and that Democracy Is Bad and so is the Republic of Troperitania.
- Exaggerated: Minitrue's board of directors do absolutely nothing but devise ways to portray the people of Evilus and their government as gods amongst men, while demonizing and demoralizing Troperitania and the enemies of the state, sometimes by literally portraying them as demons from hell.
- Downplayed: Minitrue press releases technically represent the truth, but neglect the whole story by selectively forgetting the crimes and failures of The Empire and accentuating the crimes and failures of The Republic.
- Justified: Public support of the current administration of Evilus is at an all-time low due to it's inefficiency and inability to handle the Forever War with Troperitania, and use of applied violence would only exacerbate that issue. As such, The Empire has to find a non-violent way to 'earn' back the public's trust, and that's where Minitrue comes in.
- Inverted:
- The Ministry of Lies only ever tells the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, even if it's honesty damages faith in The Empire.
- The People's Freedom League actively works to undermine the public's faith in Evilus.
- The Ministry of Surveillance doesn't bother with propagating lies, but rather with suppressing the truth, tapping into private discussions, monitoring imageboards, and unpersoning 'memetic criminal agents', and so forth.
- Subverted:
- It's true! In spite of Intrepid Reporter Alice's best efforts to debunk the ministry's allegations, all of the claims that Minitrue has professed over the years about Troperitania and of Evilus itself have been substantiated by evidence and independently verified by impartial newsletters and arbitrators. Truly, Evilus is the light of the world!
- It seems like Minitrue would never speak a word that could be interpreted or maliciously quoted in a way subversive to the goals of The Empire, until one of it's sanctioned news agencies gives a platform to a known enemy of the state.
- Double Subverted:
- Don't listen to them! They have all been compromised by Minitrue! Trust no-one!
- It then turns out that the enemy (assuming that they were an enemy at all, and not just some paid Strawman Political) was given platform only to be humiliated and silenced, and to be portrayed as a a dirty traitor and that no true Evilian would ever do something so heinous.
- Parodied:
- Minitrue consistently chews up the truth and spits up incomprehensible half-truths that hardly represent reality aside from a few scraps of objectivity that exist for the sole purpose of shutting down attempts at discrediting the word of Evilus. In essence, Minitrue literally peddles 'Miniature Truths'.
- Minitrue will blatantly and obviously try to salvage the image of Evilus, even as the state rapidly and inexorably crumbles around them.
