GYARI, also known as Gyari-P or Cocoa Cigarette-P, is a prominent jazz Vocaloid producer and composer. Known for his self-drawn comic music videos, GYARI's works include standard Vocaloid songs, jazz session MVs with non-lexical Vocaloid vocals, as well as narrative MVs with Voiceroid and Voiceroid-related spoken vocals.

GYARI's Vocaloid jazz session MVs comprise most of his earlier work, and the most famous among them is the Vocaloids Are Only... series. The series features his Vocaloids (typically Rin and Len) roping the rest of their group into playing a jazz session based on a certain rule or theme (such as having to play variations of only two chords). Each of these tend to involve hilarity ensuing soon afterward as more Vocaloids come to join in or their efforts to keep the music going get more and more silly or bizarre.

Starting from "Akane-chan Will Listen To Whatever You Say", GYARI began producing Voiceroid skit-styled MVs with spoken text-to-speech vocals. These music videos feature Voiceroid and Voiceroid-related characters speaking and singing out an entire comedy skit, all drawn in GYARI's distinctive art style.

As mentioned, GYARI illustrates and animates all of his videos by himself, and has also drawn several short comics on Pixiv, usually about further adventures featuring his Vocaloid cast. Some of Gyari's originals have also spawned a few internet memes, particularly "Akane-chan Will Listen To Whatever You Say" and "Akari Has Arrived!". Several variations of the title images for both songs have been created as parodies.

Gyari is also the creator of VOMS Project, an indie Virtual YouTuber group.

Vocaloids Only Describing Tropes:

  • Alternate Character Reading: Used as a joke at the end of "Endlessly-Praising Haruno Sora-sensei", where Maki mistakes Sora's name to be "Sakurano" rather than "Haruno" (as the kanji for "sakura" can be read as an archaic spelling of "haru").
  • Berserk Button: Yukari really does not like it when her gaming skills (or singing skills, for that matter) get insulted.
    • Luka hates being woken up prematurely from her naps, especially to join in on one of Rin's ploys.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Kiritan.
  • Broken Record: "Vocaloids Only Saying Tettetterettey".
  • Call-Back: When Akane finally snaps in "Aoi-chan Will Eat Chocomint No Matter What", the song's melody briefly switches to that of "Akane-chan Will Listen To Whatever You Say" with her making the same smiley expression.
  • The Cameo: You can see Rin playing the piano in the background in "Akari Has Arrived!".
    • Kiritan is also heavily implied to be the one that trolled Yukari's stream comments in "Akane-chan Will Listen to Whatever You Say", with her knife-like hair decs being the commentator's icon.
  • Cover Version:
    • The earliest Vocaloid jazz sessions that were posted were piano jazz cover-arranges of "Dear You" from Higurashi: When They Cry, and "Toki wo Kizamu Uta" from CLANNAD.
    • For Rin and Len's 10th anniversary, Gyari released a jazz arrange and cover of "Yellow" by kz-livetune.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Akane, who holds the same blank smile as she tells Yukari to her face that she's being an idiot.
    • Tohoku Kiritan, especially towards Yukari.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The first video in the Vocaloids only series, "Vocaloids Only Playing Two Chords", lacks a couple of the running gags the rest of the series would introduce and was much more focused on music than visual gags.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Akari spends the entirety of "Akari Has Arrived!" trying to get Yukari's attention, only to realize at the very end that Yukari was wearing earbuds and couldn't hear her.
  • Food Songs Are Funny: "Aoi-chan Will Eat Chocomint No Matter What".
  • Gamer Chick: Yukari. "Kiritan Wants to Battle Online Endlessly" reveals Kiritan is one, too.
  • Genki Girl: Rin, Miku, and especially Akari.
  • Got Me Doing It: "Vocaloids only saying 'tettetereytey'" involves Rin getting Len, Yukari, and Luka to start repeating the titular phrase. They only break out of it when Rin gets bored and they decide to sing "lalala" instead.
  • Here We Go Again!: Each of the Vocaloids only sessions end with the video looping back to the starting shot.
  • Jerkass Realization: Played for Laughs in "Aoi-chan Will Eat Chocomint No Matter What". After getting fed a terrible mint chocolate sundae by Akane, Aoi finally realizes that forcing her favorite food on Akane so much was a mistake and that people are allowed to like whatever they like.
  • Once an Episode:
    • Kaito getting WAY too into his drum solo. Sometimes while shirtless.
    • Super Chorus Time
  • Origins Episode: Doubling with Call-Back in "Endlessly-Praising Haruno Sora-sensei." Maki was last seen in "Akane-chan Will Listen To Whatever You Say" performing a guitar solo and looking for feedback from Akane. "Sora-sensei" is the story of how Sora encouraged Maki to chase her dream of becoming a "super great ultra fire guitarist."
  • Scatting: Used occasionally, such as during Len's solo in "Vocaloids only yelling".
  • Reprise Medley: "Vocaloids only playing two chords, saying 'tettettereytey' and yelling" wraps up the Vocaloids Only series by reprising all the songs together as one session.
  • Rearrange the Song: Gyari made a remastered arrange of one of his earlier Rin original songs, "Moonlight Stage", with the current jazz band for the tenth anniversary of its upload date.
  • Recurring Element: "Super Chorus Time," a vocal chorus usually made up of repeated "la" sounds, is usually featured in Gyari's songs, often right before the song begins to wrap up.
  • Running Gag:
    • As mentioned above, Kaito's drum solos.
    • Rin waking up Luka from her nap to make her get into the song of the day and paying for it by Luka switching the time signature to 7/8, which Rin finds difficult to play.
    • Someone flaring Yukari's temper by insulting her gaming skills.
    • A subtle one in the video for "Endlessly-Praising Haruno Sora-sensei." The titular teacher wears a button that initially reads "I'm 17 years old." As the song progresses, the button's text changes to variations on "I'm still 17 years old."
  • Sensei-chan: Haruno Sora in "Endlessly-Praising Haruno Sora-sensei".
  • Serious Business: "Aoi-chan Will Eat Chocomint No Matter What" is all about Aoi taking her love of mint chocolate desserts way too seriously.
  • Signature Instrument: Some of Gyari's Vocaloids tend to be associated with a specific instrument:
    • Rin - Grand Piano.
    • Len - Electric Piano/Keyboard.
    • Yukari - Cowbell (with her V4 appends Jun and Lin occasionally doing extra percussion like bongos).
    • Kaito - Drums.
    • Miku - Bass.
    • Iroha - Acoustic guitar.
    • Averted by Luka, who almost always serves as vocals rather than playing an instrument.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Aoi adores anything that's mint-chocolate flavored.
  • Uncommon Time: A part of the comedy in the Vocaloids Only series comes from the characters repeatedly arguing over or forcibly switching up the time signatures to keep things fresh. Luka also has a Running Gag of switching the time signature to 7/8 when she starts singing, forcing everyone to adapt to her.
  • Voice Clip Song: I'd Rather You Didn't Breathe My Air, based on a line spoken by Haneuzu Miuneru during a collab stream of the board game Deep Sea Adventure.
  • The Voiceless: Despite appearing as the drummer in almost all of Gyari's music videos, Kaito has yet to sing or speak anything. This is likely because Gyari doesn't own his voicebank.
    • Miku also used to be this, but Gyari acquired her voicebank and was finally able to give her speaking roles and original songs of her own.
  • Word Salad Lyrics: "Akari Has Arrived!" is made of nothing but onomatopoeia, save for one short verse sandwiched between the Super Chorus Time segment and the end of the song.
    • "Vocaloids only yelling"'s lyrics mainly consist of the characters yelling random phrases or words.
