Generation 1
Arurandeisu
- SMVP Explanation"Sasuga Most Viewer Papa" — As of mid-November 2020, Aruran has been getting noticable growth in his subscriber and live viewer counts thanks to his cultural exchange streams, so his chat uses SMVP whenever he achieves a new milestone.
- STONKS ExplanationEnglish internet slang that originated outside of hololive. A corruption of the word "stocks" that is used to praise financial brilliance and/or statistical growth. Aruran got attached to this word during his first Teach Me English Internet Slang! stream and now he and his chat use it to explain explain new western concepts to him or to comment on his channel growth.
Rikka
- 2GB Memory Explanation His bio states that he only has 2GB of memory, so every time when Rikka forgets about something or makes a mistake you can expect the viewers to bring this fact up and make jokes about it.
Generation 2
Astel Leda
- Welcome to Ast-hell ExplanationDue to Astel's really long endurance streams, many fans started calling the channel as "The Ast-hell, a place where sleep is just a myth", so every time someone states they're new to the channel, or are surprised with the length of the stream, you can expect at least one person to greet them with this. His collab with Ollie attracting more people to his channel would lead to this phrase being used a lot more often to welcome the influx of newcomers.
- Afrostel/Broccoli ExplanationThe staffs trolled Astel by making him wear an afro when the visual for Holostars' first 3D live is revealed. After the initial shock passed, the fandom goes ham with it, from giving every Holostars an afro to turning his head green then call it a broccoli.
Roberu Yukoku
- Winning Son Explanation During one of Roberu's streams, one of his fans typed the "Are you winning, son?" meme. Roberu, who typically reacts favorably to English words showing up, responded with an enthusiastic "YES! I am everyone's winning son!". Fans thus began to call him "Winning Son" ever since, to the point where Roberu embraced it by calling himself everyone's Winning Son in English whenever the phrase pops up. He later admitted in a collab with Iofi that he had no idea what the meme was and just enthusiastically rolled with it, much to Iofi's amusement. Then he told the story to Pikamee, further disclosing that he didn't understand the context of the meme for two months!
- SWS Explanation"Sasuga Winning Son" — praise for moments where Roberu is rightfully or accidentally victorious. Later mutated to "Sasuga Winning Santa" during his 100K subs totsumachi stream on December 24th, 2020, where Roberu appeared wearing a Santa hat and the sizable guest list included the likes of Fubuki, Jitomi Monoe, Yuki Ono, Reine's "mama" Pochimaru, and Sora Tokino herself.
- UCANDOIYT ExplanationBy sheer coincidence, the URL for Roberu's YouTube channel contains the phrase "U CAN DO IT", except with an extra "Y" thrown in. Both Roberu and his fans found this very funny, and interpret it as the site itself acknowledging him as the Winning Son. Fans will often use it as encouragement.
- Delayed Winning ExplanationWhen Roberu is losing at something, his fans are quick to say that he's winning later instead.
- Cafeteria in my soul ExplanationAfter performing a poorly disguised kill in Among Us, Roberu is interrogated on his whereabouts when the body is discovered. He replies "cafeteria", only for the rest of the lobby to point out that they are all playing on the one map that has no cafeteria. Roberu's last ditch attempt at defending himself, after everyone had already voted to eject him, was to say "cafeteria in my soul". This line would later be acknowledged when it showed up in his Among Us stream thumbnail a few days later, as well as with other members such as when Polka claimed the same when she had killed crew member in full view of two others, and when Aruran claimed he was in the "cafeteria in my heart." Anya eventually joined the fray during her December 14, 2020 stream saying the same words upon dying as an Impostor in that same map despite not being directly involved in the killing of a black Crewmate.
- Asamura ExplanationHis unusual pronunciation of ASMR. He says it's more compact than saying the individual letters. It can also be read as "morning wood" in Japanese.
- "Chanchakadondon!" ExplanationRoberu's name for the horn in Mario Kart 8, which he always uses instead of calling it a horn. His fans picked it up and often spam chat with it whenever he takes a break mid-stream.
- holostars are Kusogaki (shitty brats) ExplanationSaid by Roberu during a freechat when asked what the other holostars members are like when they're together.
- Sitting son ExplanationComing from Episode 1 of stars collection Popularity For Dummies, the image of Roberu sitting dejectedly became a popular template for memes, making him sit on various places or alongside other people like YAGOO.
Generation 3
Shien Kageyama
- See Shien, lower the volume ExplanationShien’s tendency to moan and make erotic sounds, sometimes with echo on, usually makes anyone watching his stream have to be on guard and keep the volume down if they don’t want to be caught in an awkward situation by their family or passerby. This also extends to any clip compilation that involves him.
Holostars EN -TEMPUS-
Regis Altare
- Avramax VTuberExplanationBecause of his white clothing and optional light-up accents across his character, Regis's design was quickly met with comparisons to Mekk-Knight Crusadia Avramax from Yu-Gi-Oh, whose armor sports a similar aesthetic..
- The Ret-Gone person in Regis's photo shown in his debut manga has been filled in with various characters, including a Crewmate, various versions of Smol Ame and Shrek which Axel theorizes as the missing fifth member.
- Demon LordExplanationMany people think that Altare might secretly be a demon lord given in the opening of his debut where he gives a deep Evil Laugh before he switches back to his normal voice and his gameplay in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess where he throws boulders at kids. Even his genmates think he's a demon lord.
- RagusExplanationKobo's friendly feud with Regis includes her Malicious Misnaming him by intentionally misspelling his name. Expect other people to also misspell his name when the two are brought up in the same context.
- "The word Elysium..."ExplanationAltare's narration in TEMPUS Vanguard's lore video starting with this line every single time got met with much amusement by fans who began memeing it
- He's just like HimmelExplanationMany fans compared Altare to Himmel from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End due to having the same color and personality. Fans joked that every time they see Himmel or any blue-haired hero in any RPG video game, it reminded them of Altare.
Magni Dezmond
- It's Maggin timeExplanationA meme spawned by /vt/ members in the spirit of its basis who, after initially being put off by Magni's apparent "mediocre" looks, had a change of heart upon getting a glimpse of his personality and tastes through Twitter (plus a few other factors that probably shouldn't be discussed here). His pre-debut chat and Twitter feed soon filled with the meme, to his utter confusion. Even Calli took part, as did YAGOO! The meme ascended right during his debut with his live tag #MagginTime. Magni's personal opinion on this meme has varied with time. At times he has considered it a Discredited Meme and not fond of saying it himself, while other times he has wholly embraced it incorporated it into his streams.
- CopiumExplanationOn his debut stream, Magni unveiled bottled copium as one of the many potions he synthesized. Copium would go on to become a reoccurring element in his streams, with fans delving into the existing copium meme when Magni is involved
- ANTNATIONExplanationAfter his first monetization stream, Magni admits he got lazy to clean up the pancake filth that it took him days to finish it. Unfortunately for him, ants start to crawl over his room which not only ruined his gloves but also nearly wrecked his drawing tablet. His viewers tend to spam ant emojis on his chat whenever he makes quite a mess.
- MaglordExplanationMagni's title for himself, which the Magmites affectionately call him as and use to praise him
Axel Syrios
- Axel's shocked faceExplanationA highly exploitable image of Axel that's provided by himself, with his mouth hanging open in disbelief that's commonly used in clip thumbnails or as reactions to absurd situations where he's the straight man.
- "Ayo?"ExplanationA verbal Double Take that Axel has popularized, and now is a more common reaction to anything suspicious or suggestive.
- Aussie grip/Horny gripExplanationA phrase coined by Vesper in his drawing of Axel, who is having a rather intense fantasy about Harusaki Nodoka and tightly digging his nails into his legs in his nervousness. It has since gone on to become the de facto meme when discussing Axel's admiration for her, usually in the form of incessant spamming by the chat.
- EN's winning sonExplanationDuring collabs, Axel is known for being victorious based on instinct. Like Roberu, he's regarded as "the winning son" of the English branch.
- #AxelSweepExplanationRelated to the above, Axel eventually gained Memetic Badass status where chat would always place bets on him winning in collabs, sometimes even when he isn't part of the collab!
- Toxel ExplanationThe chat began calling him this because he becomes absolutely toxic in competitive collabs and will play dirty to win.
- Axel the VOD DestroyerExplanationAxel's tendency to have no filter often leads him to say very yabe things either in his personal streams or in collabs. This led fans to grant him the title of "VOD Destroyer" due to VODs at risk of getting taken down due to Axel
- Axel is a furry ExplanationThe presence of detachable ears and tails have led fans and talents alike to fling accusations that Axel is a furry.
Noir Vesper
- Boomer/Grampire/Noir-ojiExplanationBecause of his frequent references to pop culture that hint him to be at least 30+ despite his official age of 28, Vesper became considered the old man of the group soon after debut. This is something he acknowledges and plays to.
- Zombie Underwear ThiefExplanationChat quickly noticed that Vesper has a habit of filching underwear from zombies he kills in his Project Zomboid playthrough. His explanation of it as a comforting coping mechanism just intensified the meme-ing of it.
- Florida Man Vesper ExplanationVesper's past was colorful to say the least, given the absolutely wild stories he often tells on his freetalk streams. Some highlights of these include the time he got trapped in a bar for thirty hours after going out for a drink during a hurricane, and that he got stabbed (twice!) in his younger years and thought nothing of it despite bleeding all over the place. The ridiculousness of his tales, combined with how his fans narrowed down where he lived during the hurricane story to be Florida, made him fit the bill of the typically zany "Florida Man" meme so much that his fans now tend to refer to him as such in the comments section of his story time streams.
- Vesper lowExplanationDuring collabs, many viewers have a hard time hearing Vesper's voice which resulted in spams of "Vesper low" in chat. Strangely enough, viewers in Vesper's solo streams can hear him very well.
- X perms lost ExplanationDue to needing to have a good reputation with developers to gain streaming permissions, chat would often joke about his perms being lost whenever he slights a game. This ended up spreading to other streamers, mutating into a more general joke where the slightest jab at a work could jeapordize the streamer's ability to stream it.
- He bought a fucking boar-hunting spear!ExplanationWhen Vesper got a two-week suspension due to losing his temper, he took some of the time off to visit his family during Thanksgiving. During said visit, his family suggested he engage in some retail therapy to lift his mood. Vesper's idea of retail therpy? Buying a seven foot long boar-hunting spear. Fans drew comparisons to him with Vlad the Impaler.
- While you were having premarital sex, Vesper was studying the blade.ExplanationA line from an old meme adapted and invoked by Vesper as a joking boast during an early Tempus Left 4 Dead 2 collab. Became even more Hilarious in Hindsight when he later mentioned in a stream that he actually does have a sword collection.
- Dorito chinExplanationHis 1.0 model has a prominent pointy chin which reminded fans of a Dorito chip. However after the 2.0 update, some fans mourn for the loss of the chin though it still can be seen on his company ID.
Gavis Bettel
- LET HIM COOKExplanationBettel's first stream after his debut was meant to be a Cooking Simulator stream. Keyword being meant, because in a truly embarrassing stroke of bad luck, he had technical issues forcing him to postpone the stream to the next day...only for that stream to glitch out as well, forcing Bettel to end it after only 2 minutes. Cue many members of the Bettelion demanding that Susan "let him cook" (a meme that's usually used when someone's giving an opinion, but in this case was rather literal). This meme would persevere past Cooking Simulator and applied to Bettel's gameplay in general
- DO NOT LET HIM COOKExplanationAs Bettel's stream difficulties cleared up, a mix of his failures in Cooking Simulator and his remarkably picky taste in actual food would cause his viewers to immediately eat their words.
- Nobody Said it was "Good" Luck.ExplanationDespite the fact that his Guild Card had Luck fully maxed out, Bettel's first week was a run of truly astounding bad luck that was impressive even for the notorious EN curse. This led some fans to start thinking that just because his luck is high, it doesn't really mean it's good.
- (affectionate).ExplanationBettel's audience has developed a habit of sending superchats with somewhat backhanded compliments, light insults, or ludicrous threats of violence followed by some variation of "(affectionate)" to show that they don't mean it.
- Beetle Juice/Graying Baggage/Goofy Bourgeoisie .ExplanationMany members of the Bettelion have taken to calling him hilariously wrong (yet vaguely similar to) variations of his name. Bettel himself noticed and was very amused by it.
- Tisker.Explanation Bettel's misreading of TSKR, an abbreviation of "Tasukaru" which means "blessed" in Japanese.
- White, magenta, white, magenta...Explanation From this Minecraft stream, in which Bettel says the colors of the blocks he's building his new house with out loud, which the Bettelion found particularly endearing.
- HE HATES US/HE LOVES US Explanation Whenever Bettel scolds/insults his audience (Usually due to them acting strange) chat tends to fill up with "HE HATES US" comments. Conversely, whenever Bettel is affectionate or shows gratitude for his audience chat will fill up with "HE LOVES US" comments.
- Bettelgoose "HONK HONK"ExplanationBettel's first collab with Kobo in preparation for Ollie's "Kureiji Arcade Tournament", Kobo had Bettel making animal noises. His goose noises ended up being surprisingly authentic sounding, which led Bettel to get an Animal Motif association with gooses. Bettel would later make his discord fugi a goose accessorized with his colors, while his raid phrase that his fans use would be "HONK HONK"
Machina X Flayon
- Flayon is a pervertExplanationDue to Flayon citing his fondness for eroge, his chat and the other boys began insisting Flayon was actually a pervert. Flayon remains in adamant denial, declaring he wasn't until his TVTropes page listed him as one. Confounding this case even further, he decided to play an eroge called Trouble Days with an R-18 patch, which showed the naughty parts in certain scenes. However Flayon used this stream to demonstrate the actual reasoning behind him playing eroges was for the wholesome romantic aspect and not the lewd side of it.
- CORNERExplanationFlayon's first starting/ending screen had his logo bouncing around much like the standard screensaver for DVD players. Whenever it hits the corner of the screen, the chat will often fill up with people announcing it. Technical problems with the bouncing logo caused the meme to discontinue for a time, but it would resurface after Machiroon Appreciation Day 2024, with the logo being replaced with two bouncing Machiroons.
- #1 Bettelion/Sanest Bettelion ExplanationFlayon is quite a big fan of Bettel's and frequently hypes him up or gushes over him, and on a few occasions has acted borderline Yandere towards him (jokingly, of course). Needless to say, the Bettelion have deemed him to be the true king of loving Bettel.
- MiachExplanationA pocket-sized version of Flayon that originated from a Tee K.O. design in his first The Jackbox Party Pack stream. He's basically seen as Flayon's equivalent to DoodleBob.
- Please shut up, no one even likes you.ExplanationFrom Flayon's verse in "Flex", often used as a reaction image to shut down Holostars antis.
- FlaybiesExplanationPortmanteau of Flayon and rabies, which is often used among the Machiroons to explain moments when Flayon would enter the thoughts and dreams of others, and any degree of obsessive reactions that follow.
Banzoin Hakka
- YEAH! WOOOOO! YEAH!ExplanationDuring Tempus Week in celebration of HoloTempus's 1st anniversary, Hakka always hype any major announcement in a very exciting manner.
- Hakka.png Explanation A stock PNG image of Hakka that's constantly used in the thumbnail images for streams he's in. Its ubiquitousness has led it to being the subject of many meme edits.
Josuiji Shinri
- LORE ExplanationShinri has an obsession with understanding every bit of the plot of the games he's playing, to the point where both his audience AND his guildmates poke fun at him by spamming the word.
- Hard-resetting/"Time to hard-reset!" ExplanationDuring his first duo collabs with Bettel and Flayon, Shinri found himself having to tell each of them to kill themselves in order to reset a puzzle they were stuck on. The term itself stuck during his Portal 2 collab with Flayon, because he already felt really awkward about straight up telling Bettel to kill himself in their We Were Here collab.
- Did you know Shinri got a shirt?ExplanationDuring the first part of his Killer Frequency playthrough, Shinri made the surprise reveal of his new toggleable turtleneck sweater after over a year of being perpetually topless. This was one of the updates Bettel was given after he returned from his break two weeks later, which he jokingly treated as Serious Business in spite of Tempus HQ getting their 3D models and Flayon getting a new outfit within the same span of time. Now permutations of "Shinri got a shirt" have since become the holostars equivalent of the "Pekora bought a monkey" meme.
Holostars EN -ARMIS-
Jurard T. Rexford
- VTuber MarkiplierExplanationShortly after Jurard's debut, fans noted Jurard's hammy personality and deep voice and compared him to Markiplier. Jurard himself would make the comparison a few streams later, while also citing Markiplier as one of his big inspirations as a content creator. Him doing a spot-on Markiplier impression during his debut also strengthens the comparison.
- MarkExplanationDuring the Holostars EN boys trip to Japan in 2024, the boys were all assigned different names in public to prevent doxxing. Jurard's assigned name was "Mark" due to the Markiplier comparisons. When Octavio told this story onstream, Jurard's chat proceeded to start calling him by that name onstream
- Lowering the volumeExplanationAs seen in his debut, Jurard is shown to be a Large Ham with No Indoor Voice. Viewers had to lower the volume because he yells a lot.
- Dino HolotoriExplanationDue to how modern birds are the direct evolutionary descendants and closest biological relatives to prehistoric dinosaurs, jokes quickly surfaced about how Jurard would technically qualify for Holotori as well, given his T-Rex Animal Motifs.
- Boyfailure/Princess JurardExplanationIn stark contrast to Jurard’s arrogant boasts, he ended up experiencing long string of epic failures in several games he played shortly after debut, leading to fans to dub him a "boyfailure" while changing his proper title of Prince Jurard to “Princess”. Jurard would spend every subsequent stream fighting these allegations and prove them wrong by doing well in games.
- Masochist/MExplanationAnother of Jurard’s allegations, stemming from his frequent childhood stories of injury often resulting from carelessness or neglect. He eventually did an 【INJURY TIER LIST】 stream, where fans were quick to note one of the tiers was “feels good”
- Secret GCExplanationJurard noticed the uncanny number of times he'd be struck with unlucky timing on raids from another Holostars member (usually Shinri) or person in the vtuber community, while he's in the middle of doing something embarrassing. This led Jurard to conspiracy theorize the existence of a secret Group Chat dedicated to watching his streams and notifying people of a humiliating time to show up.
- Pako is Jurard's No. 1 FanExplanationPako (a Hololive artist; specifically the papa of Sana and Vesper's second model) is a big fan and simp of the talents, particularly Holostars, and has a tendency to frequently pop up in Jurard's streams to banter with him. This has led chat to declare Pako as Jurard's No. 1 fan
- Bladder stonesExplanationDuring Jurard's stay in Japan, he was afflicted with abdominal pains which a checkup at hospital revealed to be bladder stones. After Jurard revealed this to chat and how he was instructed to constantly drink water to make the bladder stones pass on, he entertained the idea of making the bladder stones into merch. This has led chat to constantly meme about the bladder stones in his chat, such as asking if he was in the process of making them merch.
Octavio
- Baby Girl of Holostars ENExplanationOctavio's debut had his room layout being compared to Blue's Clues, while Octavio himself got emotional and broke down into tears. This led him to get dubbed the "Baby Girl" of Holostars EN.
- Sickly Victorian childExplanationDue to his low Endurance stat, affluent upbringing and status as ARMIS's resident little brother figure, fans have taken to calling Octavio a "sickly Victorian child". The way he sneezes doesn't help.
- DebussyExplanation Pronounced "deh-bussy" instead of "deh-byu-see". Octavio's intentional mispronunciation of Claude Debussy's name because it sounds like something else, much to the amusement and exasperation of viewers.
Crimzon Ruze
- Gap MoeExplanationThe sheer juxtapostion of Ruze exterior attitude of a trash-talking tough guy, with the comfy topics of many of his streams like decorating cookies and book reviews, have led fans to cite the amusing gap moe with Ruze's behavior
