The reincarnated princess Anisphia and the genius young lady Euphyllia
In her past life, Princess Anisphia of Palettia wanted to use magic more than anything else in the world. Unfortunately, when she reincarnated into a fantasy world, she found herself unable to cast magic like the other nobles. She decides to pursue magic in a different way: creating magical inventions based on the modern technology of her previous life, and forming the study of "magicology" in the process.

One night, when testing out a new invention, Anisphia stumbles upon an altercation between her younger brother Algard and his fiancé Euphyllia. Algard accuses Euphyllia of bullying a commoner-turned-noble named Lainie and calls off their engagement. Upon seeing how crushed Euphyllia is at this turn of events, Anisphia steps in with a proposal on how to restore Euphyllia's good name: Euphyllia will come with Anisphia and become her assistant in magicology research.

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady (Tensei Ojou to Tensai Reijou no Mahou Kakumei) is a yuri Light Novel series by Piero Karasu. Originally written as a Web Serial Novel on the Japanese novel self-publishing website "Shōsetsuka ni Narō," and serialized from 2019 to 2021, the series would see a print release after it was picked up by publisher Fujimi Fantasia Bunko on January 2020. There is a manga adaptation with art done by Harutsugu Nadaka which began serialization in Dengeki Maoh in July 2020. An anime adaptation by Diomedea premiered in January 2023.

The light novels and the manga are both licensed by Yen Press. Volume 1 of the light novel was released on April 2022, while Volume 1 of the manga was released on May 2022.

This work provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: While both the light novel and mangas present-day begins when Anisphia tests her witch’s broom, the anime’s first episode features additional scenes beforehand. It features more of Anisphia being an adventurer to gather material for her research, scenes foreshadowing Euphie’s engagement being broken, and Tilty being introduced early on.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Anisphia's laser sword doesn't actually get utilized in the manga until the fight with the dragon, late in the 2nd volume. In the anime it's used in the first scene of the first episode, presumably to allow the anime to open with a bang.
  • Asleep for Days: This happens to Anisphia twice in the first two volumes.
    • Volume 01 she pushed her body with the magical drugs along with receiving a mental message from the dragon that apparently cursed her.
    • Volume 02 Anisphia's body is pushed to the limit in fighting against her Vampire brother.
  • Bathtub Bonding: A manga illustration was drawn featuring Euphie and Anisphia in the tub together due to popular demand by the fans. However, it happens in later in the series after Anisphia is forced to step up her royal duties following her brother's banishment.
  • Book Ends: The first episode ends with Anis kneeling down and offering her hand to Euphie to help her leave the party after Algard breaks off their engagement. In the final episode, after beating Anis in their duel, Euphie leans down to offer Anis her hand, in a shot that is framed the exact same way as Anis was in the first episode.
  • Colourful Theme Naming: Many surnames in the series have a color theme to them. Euphyillia Magenta, Ilia Coral, Tilty Claret (a reddish-purple), and at the top of all the colors is the royal family of Palettia, or color palette.
  • Crapsaccharine World: While the story initially looks at the world through Anisphia's idealistic (and fairly sheltered) eyes, it gradually shifts to other points of view, revealing many problems. For example, only the nobility is allowed to study and use magic, meaning they charge commoners a fortune for things like healing spells. The Ministry of Magic has also banned books that might, for example, teach anyone else how to use magic. Finally, while the current king is never shown abusing his power, his interaction with people like Baron Cyan make it clear that he (and more importantly, his successor) could, if he so wanted.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Since Euphyllia had dedicated all her being to becoming an ideal queen, she finds herself utterly unsure of what to do with her life after her engagement is broken off. She eventually does find a new purpose: helping Anisphia by improving the public perception of magicology and Anisphia herself.
  • The Dreaded:
    • Of all the monsters in the world, dragons are feared the most due to their immense power. A single dragon is responsible for causing a panicked stampede of monsters, and one adventurer worries how it will probably destroy an entire city if left unchecked.
    • In a more humorous example, Anisphia's mother Queen Sylphine is feared by everyone in her family, especially Anise. The normally energetic and happy-go-lucky princess is reduced to a nervous wreck when confronted by her displeased mother.
  • Dude, She's Like in a Coma: At the end of Volume 02, Anisphia has been in a coma following her battle with her brother, and Euphie decides to kiss Aniphia on reflex.
  • Eternal Love: Suggested by Anis as a possible solution to Euphie's immortality after becoming a spirit contractor. If Anis can't find a way to remove Euphie's, she'll find a way to become become immortal too so they can spend eternity together.
  • Evolving Credits: The final scene of the anime ending shows Anis and Euphie talking to each other from opposite sides of a tree, before joining each other behind it. After episode 10 of the anime, as Anis is being eaten up by her duty to the throne, this changes to the two of them as monochrome silhouettes, with Euphie eventually regaining her color but Anis remaining faded and unresponsive even when Euphie approaches her.
  • First Kiss: Near the end of volume 3, Euphie gives her first three kisses to Anis, which is also her first three kisses. The third of which ends up knocking Anis unconscious due to Euphie kiss draining Anisphia's magical energy.
  • Honor Before Reason: This is one part of why Anis' Magitek faces opposition amongst the nobility. Despite all the utility it provides, to both noble and commoner alike, many nobles are often too hung up on the kingdom's traditions in regards to their relationships with spirits, which they feel that Anis is defiling with her research, to truly accept it. This, combined with their classism making them balk at the idea of commoners having access to the same power that only they had for the longest time in any capacity, means that Anis isn't very popular in court even without her lack of innate magical ability in the equation. This presents issues when Algard attempts a coup and is banished, as that leaves Anis as the only legitimate heir to the throne, something many nobles take issue with due to their ruler traditionally being a King capable of wielding magic, regardless of the lack in practicality in the king or Anis creating a new heir and having them ascend to the throne.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: Algard attempts to deflect the criticism his sister throws at him by saying she has no right to tell him how to be a ruler when the main reason he is going to be one is that Anis gave up on her birth right to be next in-line to the throne to pursue her personal interests. On paper it's a good point, but the fact remains that Algard has, by that point, given Anis plenty of reasons to judge him a terrible ruler, regardless of her own decisions.
  • I Know Your True Name: Zig-Zagged. While the Dragon that Anis defeats doesn't know her former name, he does know that she's a reincarnated soul from another world, hence why he calls her "visitor" during his dying moments.
  • Internal Reveal: At the end of the third volume, Anise reveals to Euphie about her having memories of another life in another world.
  • Kiss of Life: When Laine is injured and in desperate need of blood, Ilia bites her own lip and kisses Laine which gives Laine enough energy to regenerate her wounds.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: For a few weeks after her engagement was annulled and her old life effectively over, Euphie desperately latches on to Anise as an unlikely source of emotional support. She gets better eventually, but the bond between them only becomes more balanced but just as strong.
  • Loss of Identity: Discussed. Anisphia believes it is possible her remembering her previous life might’ve robbed her parents of their daughter's real identity, and she is just a fake. Euphie doesn’t believe that is the case.
  • Magitek: Anisphia's magicological research mostly consists of her finding ways to invent things using spirit stones. Some of her inventions include a teapot that always keeps water warm, a broomstick she can use to fly, and a sword that uses magical energy to create its blade.
  • Mana Drain: Euphie accidentally does this to Anise when kissing her for the third time.
  • Milholland Relationship Moment: When Anise invites Lainie to live at her mansion, everyone (including, eventually, Anise herself) is extremely concerned about how Euphie will take it, given that Lainie was the root cause of her entire life getting upended earlier. However, Euphie just shrugs it off because she is not a person to hold grudges, especially after she learns about Lainie's magicite problem.
  • Muggle–Mage Romance: This series strongly features the romantic development between Anisphia, the princess who has no magic, and Euphie, the gifted magic user.
  • Psycho Serum: Ether is a mild example. Created using spirit stones, an Ether pill boosts Anisphia's physical power but also causes her to act more wild and violently. However, the side effects are mild enough that Anisphia never loses control of herself and is not a danger to anyone other than her intended targets.
  • Reincarnate in Another World: In her previous life, Anisphia was from a world not unlike our modern times. She suspects that her inability to use magic is due to her reincarnated soul being "foreign" in her current world.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Near the end of the third volume, Euphie ends up kissing Anise three times while the two are lying in the bed. Anise and Euphie’s relationship becomes public knowledge after Euphie kisses Anis during her own coronation as Queen to make it clear Anis is hers.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: In the final episode, after Euphie confesses her love to Anise, she pushes her down onto the bed and playfully declares she won't wait to declare her feelings before leaning down over Anis to kiss her again. The camera changes to the dying fire in the foreground while Anis and Euphie are in the background still kissing before fading to black.
  • Their First Time: Anis & Euphie become lovers at the end of Volume 3, and they are about to engage their first time in Volume 4. Ilia & Lainie became a 'trial couple' in Volume 4, and they are firmly established as being lovers in Volume 5.
  • Time Skip: Volume 3 picks up two months after the end of Volume 2. Volume 5 takes place two years after Volume 4.
  • Tattooed Crook: It is established that criminals are given tattoos to identify them. Euphie is reluctant to tattoo Anisphia's back when she needs to control her dragon abilities.
  • Un-Sorcerer: Anisphia loves magic, but magic does not love her.
