Jerks Are Worse Than Villains in Fan Works.
Crossovers
- Equestria Girls: A Fairly Odd Friendship: The Dazzlings in the story are cruel witches who aren't above torturing children. However, several characters earn the audience's hatred even more.
- Tad and Chad cheating Timmy out of victory during the track tryouts, injuring him, and then buying their way out of trouble made them viscerally hated by everyone else. So much so, the audience rooted for them to suffer karma and were happy when Timmy finally beat them up and sent to Crystal Prep where Cinch won't let them buy their way out of trouble anymore.
- Gary and Betty are already disliked both in and out of universe for their obnoxious happy-go-lucky nature. When their idiocy injures Timmy under the pretense of teaching him safety, many people were happy to see them beaten up by Gilda's posse. And Timmy later destroying their truck also made them ecstatic.
- Hell Is a Martial Artist: In-Universe, people are stunned to see Hild is a better mother figure to Ranma than his own biological family. This is justified for several reasons: since Hild wants to bring people over to her side, it wouldn't be in her interest to willingly antagonize someone or put them down. Also, she doesn't share human perceptions of gender and masculinity, meaning she is more intrigued by Ranma's power than disgusted. Being a demon, she also has to acknowledge free will and is thus more understanding of Ranma's choices.
- Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail: This trope is one of the biggest reasons why Parker Cerise is so despised and was disliked even before the Cyan Desert Car. While he's nothing compared to The Apex, Cage of Flauros, or Mrs. Turner in terms of scope, his bratty behavior, combined with the fact that he's a lot less likable here compared to his home series, does not make up for his relatability: he acts like an unhelpful brat most of the time, has dangerously violent tendencies and anger issues, never takes responsibility for his actions, and even before the Unown got involved, he showed interest in hurting people just to make himself feel better. He has no concept of proportionate punishment, seeing Cold-Blooded Torture as fitting retribution for being part of a Gang of Bullies. And he looks up to Chloe to such an extent, he can't conceive that people might have priorities that don't include her, or be genuinely ignorant of her troubles; the only explanation for their inaction must be that they hate her. This Black-and-White Insanity, coupled with the Character Shilling he gets across the story, struck so many nerves with the readers that, especially after the Unown incident, he became the most hated character in the Blossomverse bar none.
- My Brave Pony: Starfleet Magic: While many of the villains are disliked for being bland and generic, most of the Starfleet crew have garnered a much more negative response for being speciesist, brutal, hypocritical and inept but Lightning Dawn, in particular, gets most of this primarily in the first Starfleet Humans where many people found the uptight Principal Celestia more sympathetic.
- Very noticable in the conflict between Pony Mykan Stevens and Windy Bag. Mykan Stevens shows hostility to everyone who tries to help him and is self-centered. Windy Bag wants Starfleet out of United Equestria at all costs. Even though she attempts to murder Mykan to get his fortune, she is far less hated than him.
- The Owl and The Frog:
- Ms. Byrant appeared in just two chapters, and swiftly became widely hated due to her homophobic and fundamental views.
- Emperor Belos is more personally despicable in the story, due to his role in sabotaging Sasha's friendships with the other girls and possessing her when she stands up to him.
- Sasha's father Chris is a Narcissist who only cares about others' gratitude towards him and never once considers that he might be the problem, especially towards Sasha.
- Dominoes: Despite the existence of genuine villains like the Red Siamese Cats, Tequila and the Crows, who spend their time murdering, committing terrorism, and kidnapping and experimenting on homeless children, readers are far more vocal in condemnation and criticism towards the overall heroically intentioned but deeply flawed Irregulars, and Yuusaku. Commenters have expressed a variety of reasons for this, ranging from a dislike of their hypocrisy and privileged moral posturing, to disapproval of their perceived betrayals towards interpersonal loyalties and friendships, to the greater focus on (and resulting greater empathy for) the climate of extreme emotional and psychological abuse these characters perpetrate onto their so-called loved one, Shinichi, "for the sake of protecting him." The applicability of this trope may vary and be void if the reader considers any of the Irregulars and/or Yuusaku to themselves also be genuine villains rather than Hero Antagonists in the overarching interpersonal conflicts.
- Never Had a Friend Like Me: The villains of the story are the Pixies and Anti-Fairies, who are willing to drop innocent children into lava, and Bob the Boil, who plans on destroying the world. However, the most unpleasant characters are Amanda's parents, because of how horribly abusive they are.
- Amongst the major antagonists of Abraxas (Hrodvitnon), there's Alan Jonah (who on top of his canon crimes here is presented as a Smug Snake whilst orchestrating inhumane and torturous experiments on San and Vivienne Graham without a drop of pity or remorse), there's Ghidorah (an "ultraviolent" sadist of a Planet Destroyer, whose middle and right heads fostered practically all of San's psychological issues, and who actively wants to inflict a Fate Worse than Death on Vivienne all because she unwittingly hit the middle head's Berserk Button), and there's MaNi/Elder Brother (an extra-Ax-Crazy version of one of Ghidorah's heads, whose gleeful acts of only the most heinous Cold-Blooded Torture he can think up and his lack of Ghidorah's cunning in favor of Stupid Evil arguably make him the single biggest Hate Sink in the entire story). However, even MaNi is at least made more memorable by his fantastical Kaiju design and personality, than Guard B-04. B-04 is accurately described as a "juvenile thug" dipshit of a mercenary, whose only onscreen crimes compared to the aforementioned villains' atrocities are throwing crass and low blow insults at the imprisoned Vivienne and firing gunshots at her which do temporary damage for no other reason than his own amusement, yet this makes him feel very close to Real Life for any readers who've ever had to put up with a shitty asswipe like him before.
- The Black Sheep Dog Series: In Black Mask, Sirius remarks that he'd rather be compared to the murderous Death Eater Bellatrix than the rude and cantankerous Arcturus.
- Hazbin Hotel: Lucifer's Folly: Leon St. John and John are both Jerkass mercenaries who constantly harass others with homophobic and racist remarks, trying to steal the spotlight and make everything that happens on the server all about them. They managed to wind up even more despised than villains like Valentino, Murmur and Mephistopheles, with others wanting them to be banished to the deepest pits of Hell and forgotten about.
- Rate This (Trust is Hard to Come By): In-Universe, Marinette apparently hates Lila even more than Hawkmoth. When transformed, he has a -2; Lila has a -51.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
- A Witch In Broad Daylight: Trixie serves as an In-Universe example; she's a Loony Fan who's absolutely obsessed with the version of Twilight Sparkle she's imagined for herself, firmly convinced that Might Makes Right and that she's an Invincible Villain, due to being a powerful witch that's also a mad scientist, psychic, mutant, vampire and robot. Her completely insufferable, arrogant attitude makes her incredibly unpopular.Rarity: I don't know if she's the evilest pony in the Festering Scar, but she's certainly the loudest! If we're being honest, being unignorable earns you more enmity than being evil.
- We're Not Friends Kacchan: In-Universe, Ochako feels this way about Katsuki; after learning all the Barbaric Bullying he did of Izuku, she considers him to be even worse than Shigaraki or Overhaul. His complete lack of remorse after Class 1-A learns about his history of bullying doesn't do him any favors, either.
- Alec Goes To Winslow: After witnessing Taylor's Terrible Trio of bullies in action, Alec feels this way about them In-Universe. When they start trying to threaten him into submission, he decides to stand up and tear down their little empire at Winslow High out of sheer spite.
