The Grief is a Swedish low budget horror movie by Danne Lehmussaari from 2005.
A woman called Norah Astor who lived in the 19th century got accused by her village of being a witch after getting children born out of wedlock. As a result, she and her children are brutally murdered by the mob. After that, there are records of several people getting killed by the haunting mother.
In the world of today, a group of movie students wants to shoot a project about the incidents and travels to the house where the witch once lived. After arriving they soon get attacked by her and have to find a way to escape her wrath.
The movie is separated in two parts:
Part I provides examples of:
- Artifact of Death: The pink silk ribbon with the golden key that Norah once gave her children. The group of film students only get attacked by her after finding and taking the ribbon.
- Based on a Great Big Lie: It's claimed to be based on a true story.
- Clingy MacGuffin: One of the men tries to get rid of the ribbon at one point only to find it in his pocket again.
- Death Wail: Norah, after her children got murdered.
- Facepalm Of Doom: That's how the witch kills her victims.
- Not Even Bothering with the Accent: Again, a movie full of Swenglish.
- Parental Neglect: After her children disappear, Norah waits until midnight before she begins looking for them.
- Red Shirts: The two boys who get murdered by the witch at the beginning of the movie.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The witch because of the death of her children.
- Would Hurt a Child: The townspeople murder Norah's son and daughter believing that they're children of the devil.
