Seconded by Manifest. This story provides an ingenious alternate background to how Amon could have gotten his energybending powers, the canon finale nonwithstanding.

Here's its own tropes page, it's brand new so please add tropes.
Synopsis: A four part series of fan-dubbed videos centered on Amon, in the style of his memetic "Bad Comedian" self, that manages to be both comedic yet unexpectedly somber.
Synopsis: Takes place after the beginning of Skeletons in the Closet. At the rally, it's announced Amon has gone missing. Korra and Tarrlok go on a journey to find him.
Synopsis: Equalist!Mako AU. He was supposed to guard her, supposed to keep her mouth shut. But she was the Avatar—bringer of peace and balance—but he didn't believe her. "Why would you benders help us?" "Why? Because I'm your Avatar too!" Things got complicated after that.
Synopsis: Adolescent Amon and young Korra go penguin sledding together. Exploration of how Amon became the revolutionary leader he is at present, with a bit of sweetness and humor in between the more serious psychological stuff. This fic was written before the season finale, so some aspects of the fic are AU.
Synopsis: Things are about to get messy in Republic City. A young man tries and fails to kill Amon, and joins the Avatar in trying to stop him. Begins just before episode 6, and continues to the end of Book 1. Plot follows canon apart from a few deviations.
Synopsis: AKA Batsami Begins. In order stop a new evil from rising and redeem the family name from the sins of her father, Asami becomes Republic City's very own Caped Crusader. She is The Night Spirit.
Synopsis: Fourteen years ago, a masked man intercepts a letter to the White Lotus, breaks into the home of a young Water Tribe couple, and leaves with their only daughter. Now, she is seventeen, a youth in the spring of awakening.
Synopsis: (As given by author) The Air Nomads weren't known for courage, or defiance, or strong family ties. The children must have gotten that from their Water Tribe relatives. A canon-compliant short story about the airbenders' capture. *See dedication inside.
Synopsis: Kaisei, noun: revision; amendment. Postulating two changes to canon: what if Korra had taken just a little more time to talk to people, and what if she had met Asami before the fabulous bending brothers?
Synopsis: FOR MATURE AUDIENCES 18+. A fanfic that explores a potential unhealthy and abusive relationship between Mako and Korra. Notable in large part due to fandom notoriety. Warning: Rape, Molestation, Domestic Violence, and Character Death. probably not advisable to read if you have sensitivity to character deconstruction, ship and character bashing.
We Were Friends or originally known as Korra/ Disguised As A Totally Normal Guy!Amon by with-the-villain
Recommended by: The Wandering Cat, iamthecircle
Paring: AmonNoatak/Korra, Mako/Asami
Synopsis: Amon is never seen without a mask, and would be expected to have facial scars. Since he wouldn't recognized by anyone, he walks the city as himself. Korra, after a frustrating bout of pro-bending practice, meets a handsome waterbender. Warning: Lemon, Rape by fraud
Synopsis: Republic City falls to the revolution, and the Avatar marries its leader. Darkfic; began as Amorra, metamorphosed into a counter-revolution fic. Trigger Warnings: rape, abuse, torture.
Synopsis: A look at Lin and Tenzin's relationship from the start to their first time... together, going through from pre-teens to their lives as young adults. MA for lots of smut and swearing.
Synopsis: Two years ago, Republic City fell at the feet of Amon and his Equalists. The Avatar, after losing her bending, disappeared and is presumed dead, though she left to escape the shame of her failure, but a young firebender is determined to bring her back.
Synopsis: While discussing politics with a Fire Nation representative, Tarrlok finds his control coming under attack on professional and personal levels.
Synopsis: Amon must cooperate with Korra if he hopes to survive his injuries following a natural disaster, forcing him to face his prejudices about bending head-on...and leaving him grappling with an inconvenient growing attraction. Canon to Ep 1.08; AU after that. Contains lemon. Now has a sequel in the works.
Synopsis: The spirits of Republic City are not happy with Amon and Korra's little war and the massive amounts of destruction to the city that it's been causing. So, they drag them into the Spirit World and tell them that they must make peace with each other (read: have sex) or they will be killed. This fic is incredibly hilarious, mainly because of the awkwardness. The author did a good job keeping Amon and Korra in-character, considering this is a fuck-or-die crackfic. This was written before the Book 1 finale so some of the things about Amon are AU. Warning for explicit sexual content.
Music: Avatar: The Last Airbender Soundtrack, "Peace"
Avatar Aang has passed away. His family, friends, and the city he helped create mourn him with all their hearts, but the cycle of the Avatar will continue. The music from the A:TLA soundtrack fits in beautifully. The feels will hit you hard.
Synopsis: A hard-hitting video about Korra's progress as the Avatar and the conflict growing between Korra and Amon's Equalist forces. Amazingly well-assembled and perfectly sync'd, this haunting piece should send chills up your spine.
