Proof that the remaining 10% is worth doing the Anglerfish Dance for is here.

These are recommendations made by Tropers for Girls und Panzer fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic that you like enough to recommend to others to the list, but remember to use the template found here.

You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page. No-name recommendations will be zapped. Nobody would back up the rec. Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Flower of Oarai by DomWeasel

  • Recommended by: Reynard1986
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: What if Erika had been involved in the accident and had gone with Miho to Oarai?
  • Comments: Reynard1986: The 63rd National Tournament ended for Kuromorimine the same way as always... except this time Miho nearly died saving the Panzer III crew and Erika was seriously injured while saving her in turn. After both are being blamed for losing and ending the victory streak, Erika, being disillusioned and disappointed with her school and teammates, follows Miho to Oarai where, as one can expect, they are forced to take a Sensha-do again. A re-tell of a canon story, this time with Erika as the new member of a Oarai team where her experience, advises and character development have a potential to bring new things to the team.

Lightning by KosherMommyMilkers

  • Recommended by: Reynard1986
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: After losing the 62nd winter cup in the first round, Maginot has lost in the first round for 14 consecutive years across two tournaments. Éclair has had enough. She challenges Madeleine for control and loses. Kicked off Maginot's tankery team, Éclair transfers to Ooarai to get away from tankery. Of course, this doesn't go to plan.
  • Comments: Reynard1986: Basically what synopsis says: An alternate story where Éclair didn't manage to win against Madeleine which resulted in her and her driver, Fondue, being bullied out of school and while the latter transfered to BC Freedom, the former found herself in Ooarai... along with Miho. Needless to say, her presence, influence and actions already caused a delicious canon derail with more of it coming. Very well written story that needs more love and attention even just for the sheer potential it have (unfortunately, as confirmed by the author on May 20th 2023 after nearly nine months since the last update, the story is now abandoned).

The Changing of the Guard, or: The Twelve Tasks of Pekoe by Ianho

  • Recommended by: Deegeetal
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: All things must come to an end, and Darjeeling's time as commander of St. Gloriana's senshadou team is no exception. However, she's not quite ready to hand the mantle to Orange Pekoe just yet. At least, not without making sure that Pekoe has what it takes to be the next commander...
  • Comments: Deegeetal: Another fanfic that needs more attention. It really fleshes out the characters from St. Gloriana along with others such as Alice Shimada, and crafts a fun story of the shenanigans that Orange Pekoe has to complete before becoming the next commander. It has an entry on Fanfiction.net, but a more updated version can be found in the Spacebattles thread.

Dein Weg ist Mein Weg by Rihnoswirl

  • Status: On-going
  • Synopsis: A terrible accident. A school on the brink of closing. A team with an impossible goal. The tale of a disgraced daughter from a great family, and a reluctant return to the sport she abandoned. It's a story you've been told before, but never like this. A more serious and dramatic retelling of GuP, set in a universe where things went very differently. CW: Depression, Trauma and PTS

Boys und Sensha-dō! by Stellar Magic

  • Recommended by: InfiniteFreedom01
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: The Ōarai Girl's School victory in the Sensha-do Championships keeps it from closing, but financial problems still need to be solved. Mauskateers by Sduffy

  • Recommended by: Ala Alba
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: An Original Flavor oneshot of St. Gloriana. Witnessing the insane maneuver of Ōarai shows against Kuromorimine's Maus, Darjeeling was inspired to do the same with their Mark VI; much to the delight of the hotblooded Mark VI's crew and dismay of Gloriana's automotive club.

Innocence Need Not Apply by Guardian54

  • Recommended by: Valiona
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: A retelling of the story with a more traumatized, snarky, cynical and pragmatic Miho, from an author who doesn't think she would turn out to be so innocent while growing up under Shiho's thumb. Miho reluctantly joins tankery, as while she's bitter about what it's done to her family, she wants to protect her teammates, being willing to use any means necessary to do so (including tactics that are even less conventional than the ones she used in the show).
  • Comments: Valiona: The premise sounds fairly dark, but Miho's snarky narration is often quite funny, and unlike certain characters who have become more cynical, Miho retains some of her noble goals (protecting her friends) while acquiring new ones (wanting to free her sister from her "mental slavery). Do be warned, however; some of the flashback nightmares are extremely gory.

  • Synopsis: Inspired by Oarai's victory in the Japanese National Tournament, Sophomore Class President Gertrude Pool revives her school's Tankery club to save her schoolship in danger of closing down. Does she have what it takes to form a Tankery team that'll lead them to victory in the International Tournament?

A Friend Amongst Enemies by Joannes808

  • Recommended by: S7alker117
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Maho is an unlikely addition to the Wehrmacht, but in spite of it she finds herself in the command of a tank and heading to the grisly crucible of Stalingrad. On the other side of the fence is Nonna, conscripted into the Red Army and also thrown into the infamous battle. Theirs is a tale of violence and comradeship as two soldiers from opposing sides form an unlikely bond.
  • Comments: S7alker117: This story is quite good and for the most part historical-accurate. The action is well-written but should be noted that it isn’t suited for impressionable audiences. Still unfinished.

Heimatfront Series by CaptainDavidBlake

  • Recommended by: S7alker117, Valiona
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: This is a retelling of the Girls und Panzer plot but solidly set in the final months of World War II in Europe.
    • Episode One: The Girl And Her Tank: Southeast Germany, March 1945 - World War II in Europe is coming to a grisly end. In a distant farming complex, a group of girls is given the task of repairing some old tanks to help in the last-ditch defense of the Fatherland. The task is harder than it sounds and it's up to a newcomer to make her new friends into a working team while also dealing with their own innermost secrets. (Complete)
    • Episode Two: Baptism of Fire: Central Germany, early April, 1945 - After having repaired the tanks as they were ordered to, the girls from Baderberg receive a new and potentially dangerous mission: deliver them to a Panzergrenadier unit defending Germany from the Allied onslaught. This apparently simple task will bring the girls into a collision course with Fate. (Complete)
    • Episode Three: The Great Hunting: Central Germany, April 15, 1945 - After having gone through hell once, the newly formed Baderberg Panzer Squadron is once again called into action to face the unyielding Allied advance over their Fatherland. This time the girls will have to face the hardened American troops, as well as an unexpected and fearsome new foe. (Complete)
    • Episode Four: Man of War: Eastern Germany, April 16, 1945 – The final Soviet assault begins, the massive army swarming over Germany's last lines of defense. While the girls from the Baderberg Panzer Squadron wait for the moment when they will be once again thrown into the hellfire, they will need to come to terms with their new reality, and the recruits replacing those they have lost. (Complete)
    • Episode Five: The Red Tide: Eastern Germany, Late April, 1945 – A new foe descends upon Maria and her companions while the Battle for Berlin envelops the city in a storm of fire and death. As the German Army opens a corridor to allow their comrades and civilians to escape to the West, the girls and their friends form the 77th Panzergrenadiers will have to assist in holding the flank against impossible odds. (Dead; last updated April 2019)
  • Comments: S7alker117: It is told in episodes of 12 to 15 chapters each, and the series as a whole is still in progress, although all episodes less the current one are finished. It portrays most factions of the war, focusing on the German girls, but also featuring American, British and Soviet characters. Mind that the combat is portrayed realistically and there are instances of graphic violence.

Girls und Panzer: Open Warfare by HereticalShinigami

  • Recommended by: Valiona
  • Status: Dead (last updated June 2017)
  • Synopsis: After Oarai's victory in the national tankery tournament, they enter into another tournament along with four foreign military academies. One of those academies, Wellesley Academy from Britain, is led by a commander who has a great deal to prove and was once friends with Riko "Erwin" Matsumoto.
  • Comments: Valiona: This fic does many things noticeably better than many others like it. The protagonist, Sam Pearce, is quite talented, but he's also portrayed as a rounded and flawed character who undergoes Character Development in order to become a better person and leader. His teammates are similarly well-developed and interesting, and while Oarai receives less focus than Wellesley, it's also used well, particularly Hippo Team, which has depth beyond their love of history.

Going Over This by SCE2AUX

  • Recommended by: wolfpack101
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: It's hard to be hard on your friend, but sometimes it's the best thing you can do. One-shot featuring two shots.
  • Comments: Valiona: A well-written one-shot that expands on Kay's promise to give Alisa a talking-to about her use of a radio interception balloon (as well as lying to Kay), and shows the more serious side of Kay's personality. The only strange part is that Kay apparently waited until the finals to give Alisa the lecture, rather than doing so immediately after the match.

For Glory, Praise and Honor by Anime Psychologist

  • Recommended by: wolfpack101
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Events are placed after the Girl und Panzer movie. It's set three months after the University match and the girls are preparing for the nationals, once again. Miho has shown signs of mental fatigue that has affected her performance on the grounds. She seeks help from a visiting counselor from another country. Will she be able to come to grips with her past? WILL BE LESS TANKS.
  • Comments: wolfpack101: A lot more drama than epic tank battles, but the author dives into a topic that is barely touched on in the series: The Big, Screwed-Up Family that are the Nishizumi.

Cold Steel by KonigstigerAce334

  • Recommended by: Appletank
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A few years after the finals in which Ooarai won, Kuromorimine Girls High School has been invited to Abashiri, Japan for a friendly match against their long-time rival, Pravda GHS. But when a mysterious anomaly brings historical forces into play on the battlefield, the two teams must forget their past and band together to save themselves and prevent disaster from striking.
  • Comments: Appletank: Very well written story on what do you do when a century old war suddenly appears on your porch, and think you're the enemy.

Well, at least they have tanks.

Has a sequel as well

Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.

Blasting Through by Cytrus

Erika the Radical by (zaochron333)

  • Status: Ongoing
    • Season 1 and 2: Complete
    • Season 3: Coming
  • Synopsis: After the defeat of the 63rd National Sensha-do Tournament, Shiho Nishizumi saw there're flaws in the Nishizumi Style along with Kuromorimine's rigid strategy. • Pairing: Erika/Maho, Koume, OC, Miho
  • Comments: Mostly just a comedy-focused fic with some action and drama with tons of memes, but there is enough Ship Tease and romantic hijinks to justify the category.
