"A tale of Kazuma Sato and his useless goddesses"

From the demented mind of Full Paragon, who brought you This Goddess Must Be Crazy and A Clash of NEETs comes yet another Konosuba Crossover, The Melancholy of Kazuma Sato. This time, Kazuma Sato has successfully saved the world of Belzerg from the Devil King, and is promptly dumped back in Japan. Unfortunately for him, Aqua is tagging along for the ride. Their antics attract the attention of another supposed goddess: One Haruhi Suzumiya. From there, a tale of mystery, romance, and wacky hijinks unfolds as the two worlds collide.

The Melancholy Of Kazuma Sato contains examples of:

  • Bad Future: The future Mikuru comes from seems to be some sort of dystopian nightmare, as she mentions people are assigned breeding partners and that failure in her mission would result in retirement. Via incinerator.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Everyone's first impression of Kazuma and Aqua are that they are lovers, despite their claims to the contrary.
  • Calvinball: In order to screen for new recruits for the SOS Brigade, Haruhi invents Paradox-Billiards-Vostroyan-Roulette-Fourth-Dimensional-Hypercube-Chess-Strip Poker, a game made up of multiple different games and custom content hapazardly pasted together that drives most people mad due to being so obtuse and overwhelming. Aqua recognizes the game and claims that only gods are allowed to play since it drives mortals mad. Most of the other recruits either go mad or quit because they can't put up with the game. Only Kazuma manages to win thanks to both his absurd luck, Aqua's support and somehow managing to understand the rules (which Yuki implies is thanks to his connection with Aqua allowing him to handle the information overload).
  • Genki Girl: No surprises that Haruhi is this, but Aqua is more than able to keep up with her, much to the surprise of the other Brigade members.
  • Instant Expert: Upon spending a single session playing Super Smash Bros. Yuki becomes skilled enough to wipe the floor with Kazuma, who was a self proclaimed master. She also seems rather taken with the game.
  • Ironic Hell: Tanya and Visha are exiled to a deserted isle, finally giving Tanya the peace she wants, which she soon comes to regret as she and Visha quickly grow bored with nothing to do.
  • Japanese Mafia: Kazuma and Aqua manage to make enemies of the local yakuza gang while engaged in one of their complex schemes.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: As time goes on, there are indications that several characters have histories and parentage that are related to other series.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Haruhi and Sasaki's parents repeatedly try to get them to open up about their problems, but fail due to Haruhi not wanting to get her parents mixed up in her problems and Sasaki's outright mistrust of hers. Said parents turn out to be Kazuma and Aqua and Rista and Seiya respectively, who know what's going on (or at least have a good idea), but are bound by geass to remain silent.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: Aqua mentions that she can remember the events of Isekai Quartet, unlike Kazuma who cannot as he is a mere mortal. Mikuru gains this ability upon accidentally becoming an Axis Cultist.
    • Tanya is also revealed to have maintained her memories as well due to usurping the powers of Being X/the Chief Goddess. Visha also maintains her memories due to her connection to Tanya.
  • Stepford Smiler: Koizumi is shown to be this during his perspective chapters, where he desperately tries to keep his personality of "genial mysterious transfer student" and Kazuma and Aqua derail countless plans.
  • Trapped in Another World: As far as Kazuma is concerned, he's trapped in Japan, and wants to be back in Belzerg with Megumin and Darkness, despite initially being from Earth.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Yuki is increasingly preoccupied with romantics feelings toward Kyon, though she is initially unable to express them due to her status as a pawn of the Data Overmind.
