The Boy in the Computer

She had never been in Lyoko, but he had never been out of it.
FanFiction.Net summary

The Switch Alternate Universe is a series of Code Lyoko FanFictions by Cybra. As of this moment, each story is complete, and it appears Cybra is no longer writing stories in this universe.

Set in a world where Jeremy and Aelita have SWITCHED roles, where Jeremy is trapped in Lyoko and Aelita is the leader of the Lyoko Warriors. The Lyoko warriors must find away to; save Jeremy, defend the world from Xanax, and keep Aelita from killing the hordes of girls chasing Jeremy.

In chronological order the Fanfictions that make up the Switch AU are;

    Tropes
  • The Ace: Ulrich is still the most lethal of the Lyoko Warriors.

  • Acting Unnatural: Aelita is the first to suspect Jeremy isn't entirely himself during Valentine's Day.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Subverted. Jeremy is described, by Aelita no less, as being very average looking. However, his naivety and innocence compensate for this, and make him VERY popular with the female population of Kadic Academy.

  • Adaptational Badass: Very much so for Jeremy. While his survival is just as reliant on the Warriors as Alia in the canon. Jeremy is still very capable on his own, able to outwit, and destroy monsters on his own.

  • Adults Are Useless: While the adults still seem to be of no aid to our heroes, they do seem to be less in the way as their original counterparts.

  • All for Nothing: The unfortunate outcome of the Heroes attempts to save Jeremy from a virus Xana infected him with. Prompting Jeremy to make the Ultimate Sacrifice...thankfully this is a Code Lyoko fanfiction, and Jeremy is saved by Aelita ex Machina.

  • All-Loving Hero: One of the many reasons Jeremy manages to attract so many people to himself.

  • Alternate Universe: Naturally.

  • Armor-Piercing Response: Xana manages to do this without even speaking. During Jeremie's 'weekend pass' Aelita is smacked hard by the realisation that Jeremy can't stay in the real world. She desperately tries to argue around the point, but Xana shuts her down when summing monsters IN THE REAL WORLD.

  • Ask a Stupid Question...: Odd is still quite prone to this, but Yumi and Ulrich aren't above this ether.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Xana uses possessed and enhanced animals to to test his sabotage of the Tower Scanner in fragments.

  • Badass Normal: Yumi and Ulrich naturally.

  • Batman Gambit: Both Xana and the Lyoko Warriors are fluent in the Batman Gambit.

  • Beta Couple: Yumi and Ulrich. As it is in Canon; so to shall it be in fanfiction.

  • Big Bad: Xana naturally.

  • Big Damn Heroes: A fricken rumba has what very well might be the most badass entrance in ALL Code Lyoko continuities. It even drops one liners!
The little circular vacuum cut in between the armed monstrosity and its mistress, beeping in challenge.

  • Big Good: In many ways Jeremy IS the big good. For 12 years he stood between Xana and Earth, and he spent many of these years not knowing if Earth was even REAL. He is also the only one who CAN stop Xana, without him no one would have the ability to shut down active towers. His kind heart and willingness to sacrifice himselfnote  to defend the world and friends he loves; make him as a true paragon to oppose Xana's malevolence.note

  • Bittersweet Ending: Weekend Pass ends with the world saved and all our heroes safe; but their plan to free Jeremy has failed, and Jeremy is once again physically isolated from his friends and vise-versa. Still, the story ends on a happy and hopeful note with Jeremy and Aelita having a tender moment. With Jeremy comforting Aelita by telling her;
    "We'll get there."

  • Blatant Lies: To be fair Yumi specifically asked for it;
Yumi: "Tell us some good news...Tell us it's a nice quick fix that'll take a few hours tops."
Aelita: "You want me to lie to you?"
Yumi: "Yes"
Yumi and Aelita talking about the virus Xana infected Jeremy with.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Xana doesn't so much as brainwash Jeremy, but during Valentines Day Xana uses a trojan Valentine Gift to Influence Jeremie's mind. Xana doesn't have control over Jeremy, but it can alter his emotions. Like making him feel so rebellious he runs straight into Xana's hands, simple because Aelita told him not to run into Xana's hands.

  • Break the Cutie: This seems to be the entire point of Genesis, how much pain can one innocent newborn A.I. baby boy take before he breaks...

  • By the Power of Grayskull!: "Virtualization!"

  • Cain and Abel: Jeremy and Xana are both the creation of Franz Hopper, and both are willing to kill each other at the first available opportunity.

  • Cannot Spit It Out: Zigzagged; both couples Jeremy><Aelita and Yumi><Ulrich seemingly know they like each other, but both couples also don't ever acknowledge their relationships. Instead they seem to be stuck in a sort of limbo of dating and not dating.

  • The Chessmaster: Xana is no less intelligent in the alternate universe, then he is in the main universe. he even comes scarily close to winning in Fragments.

  • Chick Magnet: Ulrich is no less popular then he was in the main universe. However his well known not-relationship with Yumi keeps most of the horde at bay...
    • Clueless Chick-Magnet:...Jeremy does not have this luxury. Because Jeremy is still new to Kadic, Jeremy and Aelita's mutual crush is still vague to the rest of the school. Leaving the girls to see sweet and innocent Jeremy as fair game. Aelita is not thrilled about this, see Clingy Jealous Girl below.
Not when the pink-haired girl was turning into the green-eyed monster thanks to the fact that quite a few girls had looked at Jeremy and seen "I'm shy, sweet, interested more in your mind than in your body, and available" tattooed across his forehead.
Yumi's internal monologue about Jeremie's new found popularity.

  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Just as the in the Main Universe, the Lyoko Warriors are notorious good simerations.

  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Aelita is not at all happy about the gaggles of girls ready to jump to Jeremie's defense. She is less than neutral about an OC named Dana giving Jeremy gifts on Valentine's day. She is outright furious about Ulrich and Odd not being able to stop Emily from abducting Jeremy for a trip to the mall.

  • Confusion Fu: Jeremie's signature discipline.

  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Being kidnapped, digitised, and assimilated by a malevolent A.I. Is a pretty good excuse.

  • Damsel in Distress: Jeremy, naturally given the Switch AU's premise.

  • Damsel out of Distress: With that said, Jeremy has proven himself very capable of surviving on his own...but there is only so much a tiger or falcon can do against lasers.

  • Darkest Hour: The proverbial clock strikes midnight during the final chapter of Fragments;
    • After Xana manages to compromise the super-scanner, and the subsequent attacks, the Lyoko warriors are left traumatized by the super close call.
      • Yumi and Ulrich were nearly ripped apart by Xana Dogs. One had even managed to pin Ulrich to the ground, with nothing more than Yumi's exhausted arms keeping it from killing Ulrich on the spot.
      • Aelita and Odd watch a Jeremy get deleted, he completed the objective and survived, but that still left Odd and Aelita uncertain as to whether or not they just watched their friend die. Aelita is nearly in tears after they successfully go back to the past wear everything is supposed to be safe and sound.
    • Due to the above, the Lyoko Warriors are on the brink of surrender, that isn't even considering the state Jeremy is in.
      • As said above, Xana got really close to taking out the planet tears. How close? 1 HP close, Jeremy was 1 HP away from being deleted. Meaning that only 1 life point stood between him saving Yumi and Ulrich, or him failing to stop the dogs from ripping them to pieces. Heaven knows what an unchecked Xana would have done to Aelita, Odd, and the rest of humanity, but chances are it wouldn't have been good. This knowledge of how close Jeremy came to failing his friends has really thrown him for a loop...
      • ...Which really doesn't help with the existential crisis he has been developing throughout Fragments. As the driving force through Fragments plot is the Franz Hopper mystery, Jeremy is on the verge of making some world shattering revelations. Besides questioning his very existence, he is also having to deal with the resurfacing trauma that was induced on him through Genesis.
    • It is at that moment, when the gang are dealing ALL of the above, that the Supercomputers Nuclear Battery begins to die. Thus also meaning the death of Lyoko and, thanks to Xana's Virus, the inevitable death of Jeremy.
    • At least they get a happy ending in Fragments thanks to Deus Ex Aelita. In Genesis the story ENDS on the darkest hour. Jeremy has lost Mom, his dad has been kidnapped by a homicidal Cthulhu wanna be, and he is now trapped with that homicidal Cthulhu wanna be alone...and it is going to stay like that for 11 years!

  • Deal with the Devil: To save Jeremy, Aelita agrees to help Xana replace the Nuclear Battery in the super-computer.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Aelita has lost none of the snark during the Role-Swap.

  • Deus ex Machina: Just as Jeremy can do in canon; Aelita can pull divine intervention out of \"science\" should the situation require it.

  • Downer Ending: Genesis

  • Elaborate Underground Base: The Factory.

  • Eldritch Abomination: Xana, naturally.

  • Eldritch Location: Sector 5, naturally.

  • Enemy Mine: During Fragments, when the nuclear battery starts dying, Xana and Aelita are forced into working together in order to save itself and Jeremy respectfully.

  • "Eureka!" Moment: Aelita's natural state of being.

  • The Evil Prince: During the first, only, and last diplomatic meeting between the A.I.\'s Xana and Jeremy, Xana takes a form mirror to Jeremy's. Making Xana The Evil Prince to Jeremy's The Wise Prince.

  • Fighting Your Friend: During Xana's brainwashing of Jeremy, see Brainwashed and Crazy in above, it managed to get Jeremy in the Scyphozoa\'s clutches. With no means of destroying the Scyphoza, the Lyoko Warriors have only one plan to save Jeremy; they reluctantly begin blasting Jeremy. They leave Xana with an ultimatum that if it doesn't release Jeremy, they will delete him themselves. While unlikely they would follow through with it, Xana's mathematically oriented mindset believes the risk outweighs the potential success, driving it to release Jeremy and cease the current attack.

  • Free-Range Children: Inverted Yumi's parents ground her for not being able to tell them where she keeps running off to during Xana's Interventions in Fragments.

  • Gossipy Hens: One can not represent Kadic Academy without showing off the schools hen population!

  • Good Parents: Yumi's parents are still caring, and it would seem Aelita got some cool not mysteriously gone parents.

  • Heroic BSoD: Happens to the Lyoko Warriors after the close call in Fragments. After Yumi and Jeremy are almost eaten by dogs and Aelita and Odd see a Jeremy almost die, they are very close to calling it quits. They even fully intend to quite the next morning, fortunately the call to adventure intervenes.

  • Heroic Resolve: Apparently a prerequisite to joining the Lyoko Warriors. Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi do not go down easy. And if they are not down, they are in Xana's face trying to stop the evil A.I.

  • Heroic Sacrifice: Jeremy is TOO familiar with this trope. He is far too willing to throw himself on the proverbial cross, and Aelita must frequently reign in the wanna be martyr.

  • He's Not My Boyfriend: Natural state of relations in this show. With the exception of Yumi's parents, every couple in Kadic refuses to acknowledge their seemingly predestined love lives. In all honesty not even Ulrich and Yumi are able to buy it for Jeremie and Aelita; Aelita is equally skeptical about their own denials.

  • I Just Want to Be Normal: The ultimate reason Aelita and the others are doing what they are doing. Trying to make Jeremy into a real boy. ...again

  • Internal Homage: This is a fanfiction after all.

  • Jerkass Has a Point: While Aelita is only doing it out of jealousy, she's very in the right for calling Ulrich and Odd out on losing Jeremie to Emily; Xana could very well have been possessing or possessed her while Jeremie was away from the group and even putting that aside, Jeremie has no idea how to operate on Earth and thus could easily have been manipulated into doing something dangerous, illegal or that made him uncomfortable.

  • Killed Off for Real: The Hoppers still lose their Mother-or-Wife

  • Leap of Faith: The Lyoko Warriors usual plan for when things go wrong is to blindly do whatever Aelita, and sometimes Jeremy, tells them to do, and pray that it works.

  • The Little Detecto: The Super Scanner of course.

  • Left Hanging: Due to the What If nature of the series, there is probably never going to be a proper conclusion to the Switch AU.

  • Loophole Abuse: Ulrich uses this to get out of a Sissy situation.

  • Malignant Plot Tumor: While most of Genesis is about the Hoppers 'making a child' and raising Jeremy, this is set to the backdrop of Franz hiding Lyoko from the government. Until the very end Xana is said in little more than a brief mention Jeremy and it were almost destroyed by a virus. Then the ending happens.

  • Mechanical Monster: Welcome to Lyoko, now fight or die.

  • The Men in Black: Make a return in Genesis, naturally.

  • Mind Rape: Happens no less than three times to Jeremy.
    • In Genesis, we are able to SEE Xana stealing Jeremie's memories and kidnapping his creator. The story literally ends with us seeing Lyoko from the point of view of the newly mind wiped Jeremy.
    • Psychazoa. That is all.
    • Valentines Day in Fragments, doesn't really go well for Jeremy. Xana can't directly posses Jeremy, but he can alter him to the point where he refuses to license to Aelita.

  • My God, What Have I Done?: Franz Hopper in Genesis when he realises the program he thought was just a simple VI, Virtual Intelligence, is actually a fully functional A.I. named Jeremy. After he almost rewrote him.

  • Older Than They Look: Jeremy is actually 27, he was just stuck in a virtual world for 20 years.

  • Parents as People: The 2nd point of Genesis.

  • Phantom Zone: Welcome to Lyoko, do NOT fall.

  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Welcome to Lyoko, do not feed the malevolent A.I.

  • Sealed Good in a Can: Welcome to Lyoko, you may look but not touch the Jeremy.

  • Slice of Life: What is usually happening when they are not trying to stop everyone from dying.

  • Tail Slap: Preformed by Jeremy a couple times.

  • Villainous Rescue: See Enemy Mine above.

  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Aelita and Yumi don't take kindly to the threatening, mistreatment, or attempt to steal their respective not-boyfriends.

  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Xana does this whenever Jeremy starts getting a little TOO uppity.

  • You Are Not Alone: Aelita has to remind Jeremy of this from time to time. Being the waifu is challenging, but someone has to do it.
