This story contains examples of:

     Tropes #-F
  • Affably Evil: En Sabah Nur comes across as this. His only action that directly harms any of the heroes when he first reveals himself is his folding Laura in half. She gets better.
  • A God Am I: Apocalypse's speech to the guard he kills in Nefertiti's tomb stops just short of him outright saying this trope by name.
En Sabah Nur: "Mankind builds towers to reach the sun and fires arrows towards the heavens, but God merely laughs at their hubris."
  • Ancient Evil: En Sabah Nur was the final Pharaoh of the 18th Egyptian Dynasty, meaning he was around in 1292 BCE. He even fought a young Odin.
  • As the Good Book Says...: Apocalypse modifies Genesis 3:19 in a speech to an assembled group of Egyptians.
Genesis 3:19: "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your bread, until you return to the ground— because out of it were you taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return."
Apocalypse: "By the sweat of your face you shall serve me until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. You are dust, and to dust you shall return."
  • Badass Boast:
    • En Sabah Nur gives a downright epic speech to a random guard in Chapter 10.
Apocalypse: "I am revelation's dawn, the instrument of destiny, the First Mutant! Tremble! Before! APOCALYPSE! [...] I cannot be harmed by human weapons! You are as much of a threat to me as the Babylonians with their swords and fire sticks! [...] Mankind builds towers to reach the sun and fires arrows towards the heavens, but God merely laughs at their hubris. [...] I will make humanity's bones as dry as those of Cyrus and of Caesar! The dawn of my empire is approaching, and dusk shall never set on it as long as I draw immortal breath!"
    • Mysterio has one before fighting Mystique and Zemo in Chapter 12.
Quentin: "No, but I did fight the end times once. And I won."
  • Big Damn Kiss: Bucky and Sam get one in Chapter 11.
  • Black-Tie Infiltration: During The Cameo by the Guardians of the Galaxy, they are depicted as infiltrating a party.
  • Brick Joke: In Chapter 7, Sharon tells Bucky she knows a barber that can help him with his hair. Later in the same chapter, Sharon complains about the heat. Guess what Bucky says to her.
  • Composite Character: A weird example. The fictional villain Apocalypse is merged with the real life Pharaoh Akhenaten.
  • Dark Messiah: Apocalypse refers to himself as a revelation.
  • Due to the Dead: Apocalypse says a prayer over his son Tutankhamun's body so that he may find rest in the afterlife.
  • Elevator Action Sequence: Sharon Carter fights Mystique and Zemo in a callback to the elevator fight in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: En Sabah Nur takes the time to give his son some last rights, he speaks to his wife's mutilated body out of guilt that he couldn't save her, and he embraces his general.
  • Fastball Special: In the flashback of Chapter 9, Logan and Erik execute one.
  • Flashback: Chapter 9 has one to 2015 and the death of Logan Howlett.

     Tropes G-M

  • Godzilla Threshold: Bucky is forced to utilize similar programming to his own brainwashing in order to interrogate Yelena Belova.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Corvus Glaive's arm is shot off during the Guardians' Black-Tie Infiltration. He proceeds to pick it up and beat the crap out of the guard who shot it off.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: The Pharaoh Akhenaten's biggest real world transgression was making a massive change to Egypt's religion. In the MCFFU, he is Apocalypse
  • Last Chance to Quit: Vision offers some Hydra mooks a chance to lay down their weapons. They refuse.
Vision: My name is Vision. I am the fiancé of Wanda Maximoff, Oathbrother of Thor, and the current wielder of the Reality Stone. There is no timeline where you lot are victorious against myself or my fellow Avengers, and as such I offer you a chance to surrender.
  • Living MacGuffin: Apocalypse requires the power of the Soul Stone. Who currently has that power and is on Earth? The Red Skull.
  • Male Might, Female Finesse: Played with. While Sharon and Bucky play the trope true, Sam is more agile than strong. As a Lightning Bruiser, Laura is a mix of both.
  • The Many Deaths of You: Wanda dies multiple times at the hands of Red Skull, but as she is in a time loop, she recovers.
  • Motor Mouth: Luis makes an appearance with his signature narration style.
  • Movie Superheroes Wear Black: Both Played with and averted.
    • Played with regarding the X-Men suits. Laura's present day X-Men suit is bright like the comic book ones, but a flashback shows the X-Men with black suits.
    • Averted with Sharon and Sam. Sharon has her comic book accurate white catsuit and Sam has a bright suit befitting a Primary-Color Champion.

     Tropes N-T

  • Nepharious Pharaoh: En Sabah Nur was the Pharaoh of Egypt until he was overthrown and sealed away.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Mystique and Zemo acting suspicious tips Mysterio off, allowing to tell the heroes that the villains have Red Skull.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Sharon has one in Chapter 2 that she then lampshades in Chapter 11.
Sharon: "That's what they all say."
  • Required Secondary Powers: Played with. Sam reads a trigonometry book because he, unlike Steve, doesn't have the ability to calculate angles on the fly.
  • Rogues' Gallery Transplant: Though frequently fighting other heroes, Apocalypse is largely an X-Men villain in the comics. However, the first hero he comes directly into conflict with in the MCFFU is Captain America.
  • Shipper on Deck: Laura and Sharon for Sam and Bucky.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: After Team Cap spends almost an entire chapter with Luis planning a heist to get a substance called Melbournium, Cassie Lang pipes up saying that Sam should just... Ask.
  • Time Loop Trap: Wanda takes a card from her teacher's deck and traps Red Skull in a time loop. Her goal is to exhaust his powers by allowing him to kill her over and over.
