Fanfic / RWBY: Aqua's Mission

Go To

RWBY: Aqua's Mission is a Kingdom Hearts x RWBY Fanfic written by TPoynt. The story was first written in Jun 30, 2019.

Aqua didn't know what would happen when she fell into the Realm of Darkness. The last thing she expected was having to raise two little girls. With one of them being a Keyblade Wielder, she has her work cut out for her.

RWBY: Aqua's Mission contains the following tropes

  • A-Cup Angst: Ruby is shown to have insecurities about her body image, feeling that she isn’t as attractive when comparing herself to the older girls around her.
    • Weiss is annoyed when Ruby mentions that they have similar figures considering Weiss is two years older than Ruby. It doesn’t help Weiss when she finds that Ruby’s sports bra is bigger than her own.
  • Accidental Pervert: A minor example is when Riku is transported to Remnant and ends up on top of Ruby on her bed. Everyone’s reaction is expected.
    • The same thing happens with Sora only he ends up in a room right when Cinder comes out of a shower, thankfully covered in a towel. She and Aqua’s Nobody knock him out and tie him to a chair for interrogation.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: The Brother Gods's origins are different compare to canon, for example the God of Light is the Master of Masters from Kingdom Hearts.
  • Adaptational Villainy: The God of Darkness is much more evil and destructive compare to his canon self, to the point he had to be sealed away in Kingdom Hearts itself.
  • And I Must Scream: After the Fall of Beacon, Ruby's Silver Eyes destroyed the original parasite that Salem was using to keep Cinder under her control. In response, Salem uses a stronger parasite that is more resistant to Ruby's eyes but completely removed Cinder's ability to control her body. She can't move or speak on her own, but she's fully conscious of the world around her and is unable to do anything about it.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Cinder calls Emerald “Tea Leaf”. It is an Old English phrase that means “Thief”, but a nicer way to say it.
  • Age-Gap Romance: While not a considerable gap between the two, Aqua was 18-19 when she entered a relationship with Qrow who would've been in his late 20s-early 30s.
    • This can also apply with Ruby and Cinder
  • Babies Ever After: During the Fall of Beacon, Pyrrha learns that she's pregnant with Jaune's child, but breaks up with him and goes home to Argus without telling him so he wouldn't have to choose to stop training as a Huntsman. The child has since been born, a boy named Achilles. Jaune faints when he learns he exists.
    • Played with after Aqua became trapped in the Kingdom Hearts that formed over Beacon. She was trapped in a dream world that showed her an idealized version of her own life, where Xehanort never enacted his plan, but she still met Qrow, Ruby, and Yang. The most important detail of that dream world is that it included a hypothetical daughter that she had with Qrow, named Larmina.
  • Back from the Dead: Aqua's body is reborn as a Nobody. She later names herself Ash.
  • Battle Couple: Both Aqua and Qrow are experienced fighters, and can be quite deadly to deal with when working together.
  • Bedmate Reveal: Chapter 10 starts with the reveal that Aqua and Qrow had sex. The rest of the chapter is dedicated to explaining how that happened.
  • Bound and Gagged: Happens a few times in this story.
    • Cardin kidnaps Ruby and wraps her up in duct tape to hold her hostage so Yang would have no choice to let him beat her up, and he ties Aqua to a chair and locks her in a storage closet so she wouldn't interfere. Aqua eventually is able to use her magic to escape, and Jaune comes up with a plan to free Ruby so Yang could beat Cardin up.
    • Roman ties Ruby up after she gets knocked out in Mountain Glenn, and ties her to a chair on the train once her team shows up.
    • When Raven kidnaps Aqua and Weiss after their airship crashes, she ties the two of them up, even going so far as to trap Aqua's hands in a leather sack so she couldn't summon her Keyblade. Luckily for Aqua, Raven didn't know that Aqua had been practicing using her magic to perform telekinesis, and she uses that to escape.
    • The minions of the crime boss Midas kidnap Yang and chain her up in the cargo hold of an airship. Her summoning Simba for the first time allowed her to escape.
    • Midas also does this to Nora and Oscar, going so far as to turn Nora into a golden statue. See Taken for Granite below. Nora and Oscar are saved when the rest of the group comes to rescue them.
    • Yang and Qrow get tied up for attacking Cordovin due to the latter insulting the deceased Aqua. Blake and Tifa get this treatment due to the base's racism against Faunus.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Cinder was placed under Salem's control for 10 years thanks to a Grimm bug. She was freed when Ruby uses her Sliver eyes for the first time. However, Salem decided to use a much stronger one instead, leaving Cinder trapped in her own body.
  • Childhood Friends: Cinder with Ruby and Yang.
    • Cinder takes it personally when Mercury humiliates Yang by broadcasting a sex tape of himself and Yang in the Vytle Tournament. See Even Evil Has Standards below.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: This is what eventually happens with Ruby and Cinder. Emerald does not take it well.
  • Control Freak: As in canon so too is James in this story. Believing the Keyblade to be the weapon needed to defeat Salem, he has Aqua enter Atlas under the guise of going through a very experimental and potentially fatal surgical procedure that would restore the use of her legs, he then tells her she cannot leave and even puts her in the servitude, really slavery in practice, of Jacques Schnee who is already distrustful of the Keyblade Master because of her Semblence, thus believing her to be a bastard Schnee. This tendency lead to both getting much deserved karma by Aqua who beaten them up brutally for this.
  • Covert Pervert: Surprisingly, Aqua and Qrow are into BDSM play. When Aqua wakes up after their first night together when they reunite during the Vytal Tournament, she's still handcuffed to the bed and gagged from the night before.
    • A less entertaining example is Jacques Schnee. He was fairly obsessed with Aqua while he was forcing her to be his personal maid, even dressing her up as one and attempting to grope her when he first saw her in the outfit, though she made sure he never tried again. Klein expresses to Whitley later that he was concerned about how far Jacques was going to take things if Aqua hadn't escaped when she did.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After a few years of being sober following Qrow's relationship with Aqua, her death drives him to fall off the wagon, much to his nieces' shock.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Mercury, rather than fighting Yang directly, films himself and Yang having sex, and then broadcasts the film during his match with her in the singles round of the Vytal Tournament. Cinder burns his face in response to this, as his actions weren't part of the plan (he was supposed to fight Sun in this universe, but he changed the pairing on Cinder's Scroll when she wasn't looking. It doesn’t help Mercury that Yang happens to be a close friend to Cinder. See Childhood Friends above). Emerald even says what he did is messed up, and she doesn’t even like Yang.
  • Fingore: During the confrontation with Sephiroth at Haven, Ren loses his pinkie finger to the One-Winged Angel.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Emerald towards Ruby. She is jealous of Cinder's affection to Ruby. So much so is willing to keep Cinder under Salem's control so she does not leave her for Ruby.
    • Ren starts to become this to Oscar when he and Nora became an official couple. He start accusing him of being really Ozpin, always lying, and attempting to break him and Nora off. This resulted in him getting called out by the others, especially Nora who pointed out he brought upon his self for his selfish obsession with Sephiroth.
  • Hates Their Parent: Yang wants nothing to do with Raven, her womb donor as she considers her now, after she kidnapped Ruby when they were still little kids.
  • Handicapped Badass: Aqua suffers spinal injury during the Fall of Beacon, and is rendered paraplegic as a result. She gets better.
  • Happily Married: Qrow and Aqua, as of a year before Ruby joins Beacon.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Cinder has a brief opportunity to be free of Salem's clutches after Ruby burns out her original parasite, but she's in such bad shape that Emerald takes her back to Salem for treatment, leading to the And I Must Scream moment above.
  • Hypocrite: Emerald claims she wanted to protect Cinder from being hurt by Salem's group yet she is contributing to Cinder being a prisoner and not being freed. Ruby rightfully calls her out on that.
  • Killed By The Adaptation: Cardin Winchester turns into a Heartless during RWBY's first semester, and Aqua and Ruby have to put him down.
    • The same happens to Corsac and Fennec Albain. While Fennec was killed in canon, Corsac was not. Here, the two fuses into one Heartless, essentially killing both at once.
    • After freeing Cinder from the Grimm parasite controlling her, Aqua loses her heart after being pierced by Cinder’s Shadow Hand which Cinder has no control of. Aqua’s heart later forms into a Heartless and is later killed by Ruby, freeing Aqua’s heart. Her Nobody counterpart Ash appears later on.
    • Raven takes a blow meant for Yang by Aqua's Heartless and dies, passing the Spring Maiden's power to her daughter.
  • Mama Bear: Aqua counts as this when she became a member of Ruby and Yang's family.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jaune reacts this way after learning the truth about Salem. He lashes out physically at Oscar, but this makes Achilles start crying. Jaune is horrified at realizing how much he was scaring his son.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Several villains have gotten this as a result of their actions.
    • Ironwood and Jacques received brutal injuries which left them in the hospital by an enraged Aqua after all they put her through to keep her in Atlas.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: Cinder and Emerald have a teacher-student relationship, but the romance is one-sided on Emerald’s part.
  • The Lost Lenore: Two separate people: Summer for Qrow, and Terra for Aqua. Their mutual experiences at waiting too long to confess their feelings was a main contributing factor in Aqua and Qrow ending up together.
    • And now, Aqua has become one for Qrow.
  • The Power of Friendship: Aqua's Semblance allows her to summon crystalline copies of friends she's made, both in her own story in BBS and during this fic.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: After hearing Hazel's reasons for fighting Ozpin, Nora calls him out, saying that everyone in the room has lost someone dear to the Grimm. None of them joined Salem in revenge against Ozpin.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Heather Shields, a minor character who was never seen on-screen in RWBY canon, is rescued from the grip of Mistralian crime lord Midas in this story, and reunited with her family.
    • Volume 5 ends with the reveal that Sienna Khan was somehow saved from her canon death at the hands of Adam by the Hooded Man.
    • Pyrrha Nikos. See Babies Ever After above.
    • the woman that Cinder robs and murders in Volume 6 instead gets to offer shelter to the Fall Maiden and Aqua's Nobody. Her name is Alice.
  • Taken for Granite: Midas, a Mistralian crime lord OC, has the ability to turn anyone he touches into gold. He does this to Nora when his compound is breached by her friends, but his Semblance is reversed when he dies, thankfully.
  • Time Skip: The story begins over a decade before RWBY canon, with the first ten chapters setting up Aqua's new life on Remnant and her new family. Chapter 11 takes us to the beginning of RWBY's canon story. The canon time skips are included as well, such as the gap between the Fall of Beacon and the beginning of canon Volume 4.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Because of Aqua rescuing both her and Ruby from the Branwen tribe and her temporary stay at the Xiao-Long manor ten years before the beginning of RWBY’s canon story, Cinder does not become the power hungry tyrant we know today. She even treats Emerald better. Somewhat subverted with her stance with some other characters such as Mercury, making it clear that he is nothing but a hired gun to her and Emerald. It becomes understandable, especially later on after what he did to Yang.
  • Vengeance Denied: How Ren feels after Sephiroth kills the Nuckelavee with little effort, solely because it was in his path towards Cloud.
