Donpahn is a Crossover fanfic created by UPMan. It's a crossover between the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games and the film Elephant (2003).

Like its predecessor, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Zero Day, this one follows a school shooting in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon universe. However, instead of primarily focusing on the perpetrators of the attack (in this case, two Meowstic siblings), this fic mostly focuses on several students at a local high school, jumping back and forth between the day of the attack before the shooting begins, and switching between everyone's points of view all the way.

It can be read here.

The fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Name Change and Adaptation Species Change: All of the named characters from Elephant (2003) are given new names here, and are changed from humans to Pokémon.
    • Alex becomes a male Meowstic named Jim.
    • Eric becomes a female Meowstic named Abby.
    • John becomes a Lucario named Chet.
    • Elias becomes a Cinderace named Marcus.
    • Nathan and Carrie become an Umbreon named Neil, and an Espeon named Mary respectively.
    • Michelle becomes a Lopunny named Sophie.
    • Nicole, Brittany, and Jordan become a Leafeon named Janet, a Glaceon named Lori, and a Sylveon named Lucy.
    • Acadia becomes a Braixen named Katie.
    • Benny becomes a Machop named Chandler.
    • Mr. Luce becomes a Greninja named Mr. Lanza.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: The original film had Michelle, an unattractive, unpopular girl with body issues. Her Pokémon counterpart, Sophie, is an attractive Lopunny who's part of the school's cheerleading squad. She has identical issues though, as she wants to be known for more than her looks.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Eric, one of the shooters from Elephant, is changed into the female Abby in this fanfic.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Acadia's sexuality isn't mentioned in the film, but her fanfic counterpart, Katie the Braixen, is mentioned as being a lesbian.
  • Axes at School: Two Meowstics shoot up the school in the final two chapters.
  • Alcoholic Parent: Chet's father.
  • Ax-Crazy: Both shooters are this, but like Alex in the original movie, Jim is shown to be even more sadistic and cruel than Abby is, to the point where he randomly kills her in the cafeteria as Alex did to Eric.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Jim and Abby.
  • Brother–Sister Team: Jim and Abby, the two Meowstics shooting up the school, are siblings.
  • Cain and Abel: Jim randomly kills Abby at the end of the fic, just like Alex did to Eric.
  • Call-Back: A few to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Zero Day. Namely, Chander Reagan, the Scrafty who was killed in the Zero Day shooting, is split into two different people here in this story: A Machop named Chandler, who is killed by his ex-girlfriend, Abby, and a nameless Scrafty who bullied Jim and Abby, and is shot and possibly killed as a result.
  • Camera Fiend: Marcus is Elias' counterpart, so, of course, he loves photography. He is seen taking photos of two students outside the school entrance, as well as Chet, and is mentioned to have taken a picture of Sophie during the big game. He even takes a picture of Jim and Abby once they enter the library before the former kills him.
  • Dark Is Evil: Like Alex, Jim wears all-black clothing during the shooting.
  • Death by Adaptation: Some characters whose fates were unknown in the film are shown here. Here's a list of everyone's fates.
    • Chet survives the shooting, just like John, by staying outside of the school and warning people not to go in there.
    • Sophie is the first fatality of the attack, just like Michelle, when she is shot and killed by Abby.
    • Marcus is shot and killed by Jim while trying to escape, deviating from Elias, who wasn't shown being attacked in the film.
    • Janet, Lori, and Lucy are shot several times in the bathroom by Jim, similar to Nicole, Brittany, and Jordan being attacked by Alex in the film. Janet and Lori are heard screaming afterward, confirming their survival, but Lucy isn't heard at all, implying that she was killed.
    • Katie survives the shooting after Chandler helps her through the window, just like Acadia.
    • Chandler is killed by Abby, just like Benny.
    • Mr. Lanza is shot and killed while trying to get away from Abby, just like Mr. Luce. The only difference is that Eric killed Mr. Luce, while Jim, Alex's counterpart, was the one who killed Mr. Lanza.
    • Abby is killed by Jim for seemingly no reason, just like Eric.
    • Jim, Neil, and Mary are last seen in a freezer, with the former sadistically choosing which of the latter two to kill first. The fic ends there, leaving their fates unknown. The same thing happened to Alex, Nathan, and Carrie at the end of Elephant (2003).
  • Dissonant Serenity: In the final scene of the fic, Jim sits down at one of the canteen tables and drinks some apple juice that was left on it. Abby shows up, and the two of them have a short conversation before he suddenly shoots and kills her.
  • Downer Ending: It's about a school shooting, what were you expecting?
  • Flashback: Many of the chapters have one focusing on Jim and Abby, just like in Elephant (2003).
  • Girl Posse: Janet, Lori, and Lucy make up one.
  • Hidden Depths: In the flashback at the end of Janet, Lori, and Lucy's chapter, Jim is playing the piano, much like Alex.
  • Idiot Ball:
    • The flashback in Sophie's chapter shows Jim receiving a package from a Delibird that was very important to his and Abby's plan. It's likely that there was something dangerous in it, and the Delibird knew what it was, and who he was giving it to, and he still gave it to Jim.
    • Like Elias in the original film, Marcus snaps a picture of Jim and Abby once they enter the library, and doesn't run away or hide like he should've. This gets him killed.
    • Like John, Chet spotted Jim and Abby approaching the school with duffel bags and realized what they were doing. Instead of calling the police, he chose to stay outside and try to warn people not to go into the school. As expected, no one took him seriously until the shooting was already underway.
  • Murder Simulators: One of the flashbacks shows Abby playing a game Jim created. It's a school shooting-themed game inspired by a scene from Nineteen Minutes.
  • Not His Sled: One scene has Abby confronting Mr. Lanza with a gun, before deciding to spare him, prompting him to run away. This is identical to a scene in Elephant (2003) between Eric and Mr. Luce. Both principals are killed anyway, though, but while Eric killed Mr. Luce, Mr. Lanza was killed by Jim, who is Alex's counterpart, while Abby, Eric's counterpart, was serious about sparing him.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Abby calmly greets Mr. Lanza when she has him cornered during the shooting, but when he asks her to put her gun down, she refuses to do so, shouting at him as she does so.
  • Team Killer: See Cain and Abel.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Jim and Abby, obviously. The same can be said with the Scrafty who is mentioned as harassing the Meowstics. Every other teenage character, however, is shown to be a nice guy.
  • Too Dumb to Live: What does Chandler do when he sees his ex-girlfriend threatening Mr. Lanza with a gun? Try to sneak up behind and ambush her, completely forgetting that she's a Psychic Type Pokémon who can easily see it coming.
  • Ultra Super Death Gore Fest Chainsawer 3000: One flashback shows Abby playing a game Jim created that tells the tale of a Zoroark who goes on a killing spree at his high school after being expelled. In the first level, you shoot and kill everyone you see. On the second level, you sneak through the halls and hide from law enforcement to reach the floor where the principal's office is. In the third and final level, you fight the principal.
  • Where's the Kaboom?: Jim and Abby planned on detonating bombs all over the school to send everyone into a frenzy and kill groups of people so they can cause a ton of chaos, but the bombs don't go off as planned, forcing them to just shoot people.
