"Sorry, but I'm useless in a fight. I don't know what color the sky is, and I've never held a katana once in my life. You're on your own, beautiful."

His laidback, self-indulgent exterior fool others easily, but his brutality is as great as his appetite for pleasure. Eyeball is a mysterious swordsman who hails from the east. Afflicted with amnesia, he comes to Eorzea in search of the key to his memories. Though his ventures get sidetracked by his own lifestyle problems, in his efforts to find out who he really is, he gets much more than he initially bargained for...

  • Amnesiac Hero: Eyeball had once stabbed his head, twisted his blade 3 times, and fell onto the waters leading to the ocean. He had spent 20 years floating on the ocean, the process of regenerating his brain taking delicate work and much time. By the time he had floated back over to the waters of Othard, he had long lost his memory.
  • Animal Motifs: Despite being a Miqo'te, which is more associated with cats, Eyeball is depicted to be more reminiscent to a wolf. His sidequest storyline starts with the quest, "The Big Bad Wolf".
  • Berserk Button: If you hurt his loved ones, well...
  • Blood Knight: One of the few things that make Eyeball feel truly alive is the rush of battle, and he's absolutely addicted to it. He enjoys finding stronger opponents and relishes combat with them.
  • Broken Ace: While his supernatural, god-like strength and absolute mastery of physical weapons are reliable and awe-inspiring, Eyeball suffers greatly from the trauma he endured to attain these skills.
  • Dark Messiah: In the AU where Eyeball transforms into the sin eater, Forgiven Hagiomania, he takes on this role. He puts up a devastating fight, but on-purposely allows those facing him to kill him to save the rest of the first.
  • Hidden Depths: A laidback, almost-irresponsible regular casanova. It's hard to imagine he's actually a failed, abused experiment subject and actually nice guy.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Eyeball has little to no capability with aether, and is not able to take up magic classes at all. However, he more than makes up for this with his absolute mastery of all physical classes.
  • Mystical White Hair: Eyeball has white hair, and quite literally has a primal within him.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: With Five. Five is the more cool-headed, calculating and aloof half of their duo, while Eyeball is the impulsive, wild and outgoing one.
  • Side Kick: This to either Five or the Miyolhos depending on the AU.
  • Super-Senses: The Xaela tribe he comes from are known for their keen senses. He has a large olfactory memory, can tell the exact details of something by just tasting their blood, can feel the even the slightest of scars on someone's skin and his echo allows him to see few seconds into the future.
  • Super-Strength: Due to intensive training and a primal within him, Eyeball has unnatural super-strength.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Five.

"...I've lived another day again, how many years does this make..."

A stoic man of few words. Five is a traveling mercenary, taking job after job listlessly in pursuit of some meaning in his life. His efforts have taken him throughout Eorzea, but his past haunts him, freezing his heart, and serving as his shackles and chain. Yet, despite this, his aloof demeanor belies his true capacity for kindness and bringing people together. On his ever-stretching path for purpose, lies a destiny even he couldn't foresee...

  • Amnesiac Hero: He lost all of his memories when he was 20 years old.
  • Animal Motifs: Associated with lions.
  • Anti-Hero: Not exactly your typical Warrior of Light. Dark, brooding, often on his lonesome and blunt— Five is your typical anti-hero. Complete with his Dark and Troubled Past and nightmares about it.
  • Badass Normal: Aside from what comes naturally for a Warrior of Light, Five has little to no special powers. He's not at all adept at aether manipulation, and instead opts for relying on his physical strength and weapons.
  • Blood Knight: After becoming an amnesiac, Five does not remember anything about his past at all, save for his skill in fighting. Disturbed by his lack of identity, he clings onto the last vestiges of what he knows about himself, and invests in fighting as much as possible. This eventually leads him down to his path as a blood knight, as he slowly becomes more obsessed and elated by violence. However, when the events of the game happen, he begins to calm down and build upon his identity more properly.
  • Brutal Honesty: While he isn't sharp-tongued on purpose, Five speaks bluntly to the point he seems rude or hostile.
  • Celibate Hero: In both of his lives as V'ihra and Five, he has expressed disinterest in sex. As V'ihra, he left it as an afterthought, seeing it as something only to do after he married his fiancee (which never happened). As Five, he developed an aversion to being touched and an aversion to intimacy in general. Despite this, his charisma has other plans for him.
  • Color Motif: Black.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Has a fondness for moogles.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He is the sole survivor of an attack on his mercenary band, people who were basically loved ones to him. He is haunted by this experience, even frequently having nightmares over it.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: After the death of his loved ones, Five has since been looking for a new purpose in life.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Five has astounding charisma, that extends even past the fourth wall. His cool demeanor and above-average looks attract both women and men (leaning moreso to the latter) at his expense.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Not exactly a jerk, but not exactly the kindest person in the world either. Five is blunt, and his words can seem unkind, but deep down he's a good person.
  • Not So Stoic: Five tends to be cool-headed, but some moments in the game break his composure. Examples including: when Haurchefant died and when Zenos compared him to himself.
  • Only I Can Kill Him: Towards Eyeball. Despite Eyeball's supernatural background and incredible strength, at his peak, Five has defeated him.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: Five frequently experiences nightmares over the death of his loved ones.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: With Eyeball. Eyeball is the more impulsive, wild and outgoing half of their duo, while Five is the more cool-headed, calculating and aloof one.
  • Smoking Is Cool: Five is a frequent smoker.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Tall? Check. Dark and brooding? Check. Handsome? Check.
  • That Man Is Dead: After learning about his past from Eyeball, Five realizes he can never go back to the person he once was, and makes the decision to embrace his identity as 'Five' instead.
  • The Stoic: Five expresses himself very little, often keeping on a straight face and a steady tone.
  • Troubled, but Cute: Five is a very troubled man with a lot of baggage, and tends to withdraw into himself because of this. He's blunt, and tends to come off as an asshole without meaning to. But, in all actuality, he's a fairly mild and kind man who enjoys cooking and is more awkward than anything.

"in-character quote"

description

  • The Alcoholic: Downplayed and averted. Before reuniting with Say’li, they made a habit out of getting tipsy and fooling around, but they were averse to getting completely drunk. They significantly cut their drinking after Say’li became a part of their life again.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Though they genuinely do enjoy being a doting nuisance to their little brother, it’s also a pretense to look out for him discreetly. They’re self-conscious of their protectiveness for him because they don’t want to become the coddling guardian that he ran away from in the first place, and because they’re ashamed for wanting to defend him after having abandoned him before.
    • Their strong sense of responsibility over Say’li is in part due to their significant age gap with him, as well as their early departure from home. He was still a toddler the last time they saw him, after all. It’s also because they see themself in him, and don’t want him to go through the things that they did.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Definitely doesn’t possess the best of work ethics. They’re prone to talking back to clients, even going out of their way at times to sabotage a job if they really disagree with it. They aren’t much of a team player either, and prefer to do things their own way. Despite this, they’re plenty in demand as an adventurer, as they have repeatedly proven themself to be more than capable.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: When they first started adventuring, they were eager to play their part in the bigger world that they’d been sheltered from. They loved seeing what people had to offer, they loved reciprocating what they were given — overall, they loved people for the sake of it. Their mother had also built in a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to protect others in them, so of course they would go around and help others whenever they could. Even after developing a more jaded attitude, they can’t help but play hero sometimes.
  • Color Motif: Dark red.
  • Dark Shepherd: It’s been long since Zaara lost faith in the best of people. They realize that some people need an… extra nudge to take words to heart, or to really fulfill their promise. Subjects of their scrutiny will later find them waiting at a dark alley, or some other discreet place. Well aware that what they’re doing is unsightly, they prefer their more idealistic comrades to stay unaware of their nudges.
  • Day Hurts Dark-Adjusted Eyes: Despite their father being a Seeker, they mostly inherited traits of Keepers from their mother, including the large, round pupils characteristic to the nocturnal Miqo’te. Because of this, they have trouble functioning during daytime without protective gear for their eyes.
  • Elemental Motifs: Thunder and lightning — which are also associated with Rhalgr.
  • Experienced Protagonist: By the time ARR takes place, Zaara has over a decade’s worth of adventuring experience. At this point, they’re quite jaded about heroics. They already worked with the grand companies as well as the Scions of the Seventh Dawn (through their connection with Thancred), but only noncommittally — just enough to preserve their peace of mind. Their only motivation for getting as involved with the events of the Main Story as they do is to protect Say’li, who more or less got swept up into the fray.
  • Fantasy Character Classes: A Warrior — but borrowing a lot from Dark Knight, since the Warrior quests don’t give much lore in terms of how exactly the its class gimmicks like the inner beast work.
  • The Gadfly: They have some subjects that they particularly enjoy tormenting — though these same people also tend to be the ones they’re most afraid of being honest to. They like to prod at their enemies as well — or jab at them, depending on how much Zaara actually hates them.
  • The Glasses Gotta Go: Generally speaking, they don’t have any qualms against glasses — their father and brothers look great in them, for one. They adamantly refuse to wear glasses themself, however, despite their nearsightedness. They’ve simply accepted that long-range combat isn’t something they’ll ever pursue, nor is scouting.
  • Heroic Fatigue: At some point, the flood of demands for their aid and the guilt of not being able to fulfill them all caught up to Zaara. It took a lot before they finally came to accept that they can’t possibly be there for everyone, but by the time they did, they were already exhausted. And so, they’re now left in this strange place between wanting to be helpful, and also being absolutely sick of this whole schtick.
  • Infant Sibling Jealousy: As a child, they were jealous of Say’li for how adored he was. Their mother, Say, didn’t hold back any of her affections for him — which wasn’t the case for Zaara.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: After having witnessed the crueler side of people numerous times, they became more cynical and distrustful of people. Some people are just so eager to hurt others. Even worse, some of those people fit snugly in how the world runs itself, having taken root in a rotten system. Others are busy looking after themselves — they’re happy to take advantage of kindness, while ignoring the plight of others. And yet…
    • They wonder if it’s their mother’s teachings that keep them going, and not their own will. They wonder if they’re only keeping this up because they don’t want to become one of them. One thing they’re sure of is that, despite it all, there’s still things worth protecting — and that’s why they’re still here, albeit reluctantly.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Over the course of their adventures, they encountered many situations where they tried to help someone in need, only for it to turn out to be pointless — or even worse, fuel to the flames. They would drive away loan sharks threatening a refugee to repay their debt, only for them to come back later, aggravated and armed. They would save the life of a merchant, only to find out later that he exploits his miners, and even worked several of them to their deaths. As these experiences accumulated, they grew weary of being a hero — but it was already too late to back out.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: If there’s one thing Zaara’s learned from their extensive career in heroism, it’s that they much prefer to make the choice to jump into a situation themself, rather than do so out of pressure from expectations. It’s why they decided to make the decision to go to Ul’dah, even further from home than Limsa Lominsa — to start fresh without a reputation following them. They enjoy playing dumb and having people underestimate them. Even people who are fully aware of their capabilities aren’t free from their antics.
  • One-Way Visor: Throughout the expansions, they wear some kind of visor or mask to mitigate bright daylight since their schedule as the Warrior of Light doesn’t offer much accommodation for their nocturnal lifestyle. They also enjoy having their expressions be half-obstructed, since they despise being an open book.
  • Parent Never Came Back from the Store: Sibling version of this. On the day they decided to make the run from home, Zaara lingered near Say’li’s room in a moment of shaken resolve and got caught by him. Not having the heart to admit the entire truth, they told him they were just going to go explore a bit, but that they’ll be back soon. Since that day, Say’li never saw Zaara again — until he ran from home himself and had a chance reunion with them at Ul’dah.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: While they do their fair share of teasing and get plenty of amusement out of it, most people find Zaara to be easy enough to get along with. They’re laid back, good-humored, and even silly at times. The more you get to know them — as a friend or enemy — the more apparent their colder side becomes. They can make bitter, snide remarks without any remorse, and they hold no sympathy for those they deem to be worth their hatred.
  • Swordand Fist: Their favored fighting style is axe-swinging with some good old punches and kicks mixed in — a reflection of their long-time friendship with the axe and their prowess as a Fist of Rhalgr.
  • The Runaway: They ran away from their secluded home in Raincatcher Gully at around age 16. They were curious of the world beyond and needed a break from their mom’s strict training. At various points in their adventures, they desperately wanted to go back home. Each time, they couldn’t get themself to actually do so out of guilt, as well as fear of how they’d be received.
  • Training from Hell: Having grown up without a proper parental figure, their mom didn’t know how to actually raise a kid — all she knew was how to train a warrior. In accordance with Keeper culture, she put Zaara through tough training from a young age to make sure they would be able to fend for themself and protect others.

Silent, shy, and prone to keeping a mask on. Yan is a mysterious sellsword, not afraid to help others out, but just as eager to keep her distance. She expresses herself little, and the most you'll get out of her is a shake of the head or a few choice words. However, if you manage to garner her trust, in her you'll find one of the most loyal comrades there is. She has an interesting smile.
