  • Warmup Boss: The first Slasher the player will face in all Drift games, Ooaza puts memorization and perseverance to the test. Not only he's the first opponent to be fully capable of keeping up with the player, thus making it impossible to win via gapping, he's also the first opponent whose battle takes place over the entire length of the mountain pass, and not just a small fraction. He later shares the role with World Supremacy in Touge Legends, as they can be faced in an interchangeable order.

  • Warmup Boss: Shares the role with MMC Ooaza in Touge Legends, as the two are the first Slashers the player will face in an interchangeable order. Much like him, Hiroyuki cannot be defeated via gapping and his battle takes place over the entirety of the pass, unlike earlier opponents. These are all elements that will be found in all boss battles going forwards.

  • You Are Number 6: Briefly went by "Haruna Guardian #1" in Drift, as a member of the Avant-garde Club also claimed the name, ultimately settling for "Haruna Guardian #2". With the Avant-garde Club and its' members not returning in follow-up games, he simply begun to go by "Haruna Guardian".

Get gravity as an ally.
Takuya Hagiwara, known as "Lightning Shift(er) Takuya", is a Trickster in Drift games. He drives a custom Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE86), and can be encountered at Hakone.
  • Demoted to Extra: Due to Diamond Image, the team he used to lead, disbanding sometime after the events of 3, he started running solo. As a result, he, a former team boss in the mainline games, was relegated to appearing exclusively in the Drift series.
  • Expy: A loving one of Takumi Fujiwara, as both share the same backstory, bio, and signature car.
  • Lone Wolf Boss: Is one in the Drift games, as one of the toughest Tricksters the player has to face. He's also completely alien to any conflicts taking place on the touge at any given time.

    Shutokou Leader

"Shutokou Leader" Shinichi Kobayashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shutokouleader.png
Shutokou Leader's car as it appears in Racing Battle: C1 Grand Prix
One-shot match.
Shinichi Kobayashi, also known as "Shutokou Leader" is a Wanderer in 3 and a regular racer in Kaido Racer and he's seen driving a Matchless Crowd Racing BNR34 GT-R.

In Drift titles, he can be encountered in Irohazaka (Drift) or Mount Aso (Kaido Racer).

  • Badass Normal: Gameplay-wise, neither Shinichi — nor his employee Tatsuya for that matter — is listed as a Trickster or Slasher in Drift, but the MCR BNR34 available to him is one of the most powerful cars in the game. As well as one of the hardest to handle.
  • Bragging Rights Reward: In 3, you can only encounter him in C1 Outer Loop if you perform a laptime in Time Attack mode under 4 minutes and 5 seconds (which is also carried over if the player has beaten the game at least once and started a new game regardless of the "Keep Garage" option).
  • Damn You, Muscle Memory!: Despite showing up in C1 Outer Loop, it would be expected for the Player to drive a fully-modified car with more than 600 horsepower or else, Shinichi would curbstomp the latter in few seconds (unless if the former makes a mishap that will cost his victory due to Artificial Stupidity).
  • Inconsistent Coloring: The MCR GT-R in Kaido Racer is white colored instead of red. Other depictions of the car has been depicted correctly so far, with C1 Grand Prix and Drift 2 adding some (inconsistent) changes to keep up with its actual counterparts. Though in Kaido Racer, its based on one of Shinichi's demo cars in real-life which is a silver-colored GT-R (tuned by the same company).
  • Lightning Bruiser:
    • In Drift games, he is one of the toughest opponents you can encounter, with his GT-R being tuned for the twistiest courses ever possible. His cars also are in the region of 600HP, which is overkill for even a seasoned kaido racer. Justified in that his cars were meant to be time trial cars, which are tuned that way.
    • In 3, along with others such as the WEST Racing Chevrolet Corvette (C4) and RIDOX Supra (JZA80), it's one of the fastest cars in the game (while giving Motoya Iwasaki's BNR34 GT-R a run for its money) and it's the most expensive to purchase with the price of 914,800 credit points!
  • Put on a Bus: He remains absent after his appearance in Racing Battle: C1 Grand Prix, even though his car can still be bought in Drift 2.
  • Quest Giver: Both Tatsuya (in Drift) and Shinichi (in Kaido Racer) will provide you a challege race against both the time record and drift points.
  • Special Guest: He's based on the real-life tuner mechanic of the same name.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: In Drift, Tatsuya, Shinichi's employee, is one of the toughest opponents that isn't a Tricker, or even a Slasher. What compensates that is he provides you a gambling battle involving his prize car, which is possibly a Last Disc Magic in the game.
  • You Don't Look Like You: In Chain Reaction/Kaido Racer, his MCR BNR34 is shown with a white paintjob aside from the carbon fiber hood. Meanwhile in Racing Battle: C1 Grand Prix, the red paintjob from Drift and 3 returns while the said GT-R gets equipped with canards and a different aftermarket spoiler.

Hamagaki, also known as "Kaido President".

For tropes regarding his appearance in Touge Legends, see "The Mysterious Backer"'s folder further down below.
  • All for Nothing: Hamagaki throws everything away, including his Pantera and his pride, to improve as a racer, track down Daiki, and take his title back in Chain Reaction. Toru then proceeds to show up, defeat him, defeat Daiki, and create his own title of "Miracles Summit". As a result, not only Hamagaki's efforts ended up being in vain, but the title of "Emotional King" ends up permanently out of his reach.
  • Degraded Boss: His defeat at the hands of Daiki Kōnoue in the first Drift game threw his plans into complete disarray, forcing him to restart from the bottom of the racing world. As such, he's encountered as a mere late-game Trickster in Chain Reaction.
  • The Power of Hate: After losing the title of "Emotional King" to Daiki in the first game, Hamagaki was overtaken by the desire for revenge. This caused him to become an even stronger driver than before, crushing the best touge racers across Japan, at the cost of losing sight of everything but his pursuit of Daiki.
  • The Rival: Has a one-sided rivalry with Daiki Kōnoue, the man who defeated him to claim the title of "Emotional King".

Time for you to learn how pitiful your technique is next to my unstoppable power.

  • Can't Catch Up: No matter how much effort Kyōichi puts into improving, he cannot keep up with either Daiki, Tōru, or the player, to the point of having to create his own title instead of besting any of them to become Emotional King. He finally admits to this after being defeated, warning the player that just like him, they're not ready for what lies ahead.
  • Disk-One Final Boss: Serves as one in Touge Legends alongside Supremacy Murder. The final stage of the game opens up only after defeating both men.

    Forever Knights

"Forever Knights" Daiki Kōnoue

This'll be a night to remember.
Daiki Kōnoue, the Emotional King also known as "Forever Knights", is the main protagonist of the first Drift game. He drives a black and red Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR.
  • Canon Name: Whilst nameless in the first Drift game, Chain Reaction revealed his full name alongside the street name he chose upon becoming Emotional King.
  • Dueling Player Characters: Daiki is the player character of the first Drift game. He subsequently returns as the True Final Boss of Chain Reaction, where the entire point of the game is to beat him and claim the title of "Emotional King". He returns once again as the True Final Boss of Touge Legends, wanting to test the player's abilities first hand.
  • Foil: Serves as one to Jintei. Both are incredibly-skilled drivers who appeared from nowhere and quickly climbed to the top of their respective street racing scene, both are partly shrouded in myth due to how unreachable they feel to the average driver, both favour cars with power going to all four wheels, and both end up disappearing from the world of racing following harrowing events in their personal lives. Whereas Jintei is a flashy, charismatic leader, however, Daiki never wanted the attention that becoming "Emotional King" brought, and is far more reserved. Moreso, Jintei races well in all kinds and types of environment, whereas Daiki sticks to the twisty mountain paths and off-road rallies. Lastly, Jintei's second car of choice is a Subaru Impreza; Daiki's has always been a Mitsubishi Lancer.
  • True Final Boss: Of Chain Reaction, where Tōru Zōshigaya challenges him for the title of "Emotional King". He's also the True Final Boss of Touge Legends, being drawn out of hiding only after both Jintei and Hamagaki have been defeated.

    Supremacy Murder

Emotional King's a thing of the past. Now, there's no one better than Miracles Summit!
Tōru Zōshigaya, also known as "Supremacy Murder", is the main protagonist of Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2: Chain Reaction. He drives a modified dark grey Subaru Impreza (GDB), and holds the title of "Miracles Summit"
  • Canon Name: The player can input his BBS account's name in Chain Reaction, but outside of that, he's left nameless until Touge Legends revealed his his full name alongside his canonical street name
  • Disk-One Final Boss: Serves as one in Touge Legends alongside Yeti Fang. The final stage of the game opens up only after defeating both men.
  • Dueling Player Characters: Tōru is the player character of Chain Reaction; not only does he challenge previous protagonist Daiki Kōnoue in that game, the player ends up challenging Tōru himself in Touge Legends.
  • Hockey Mask and Chainsaw: The livery on his Impreza, come Touge Legends, features a stylized individual wearing a hockey mask and welding a chainsaw. Oh, and blood. Lots and lots of blood.

Kingdom Twelve

    In General
When word got out that the Thirteen Devils hadn't just reunited, but were planning an expedition through-out the mountain passes of Japan, panic quickly spread. The mere idea of Tokyo's fastest coming back and crushing drivers left and right was an obvious cause for worry, and with Forever Knights having disappeared, there was no one who could drive them back.

That is, until they showed up. The Kingdom Twelve are, as the name suggests, a twelve-driver street racing team, whose declared goal is to protect the mountain passes of Japan from outside interference and crush the Devils on the touge, driving them back into the darkness. As a result of their stand, they've been immediately hailed as heroes, and it's not uncommon to see people cheering and fanboying for them.

In reality, the Kingdom Twelve are merely pawns pretending to work for the common good of street racers through-out Japan. Lead by the former "Emotional King", Hamagaki, the true goal of the team is to completely and utterly destroy street racing at its' core by breaking racers' spirits through-out Japan, baiting the Thirteen Devils into reuniting to accomplish this goal. Once that is done, and no one can oppose Hamagaki as the greatest street racer of all time, he plans for the team to turn towards sanctioned motorsports.

I had battled many opponents, but I still felt empty. But after battling with you... I feel like the darkness in front of my eyes has cleared up.

  • Defector from Decadence: Already an unenthusiastic supporter of Hamagaki, openly questioning his methods, Saya will quit the Kingdom Twelve and reveal his identity as the team's leader on the BBS upon being defeated for the first time. Facing her again will have her state that, as long as racers like the player have existed, teams like the Kingdom Twelve never had a reason to be.

    The Mysterious Backer (SPOILERS!)

Hamagaki

Hamagaki's car as it appears in Touge Legends
Whoever tries to stop us [...] has to go through ME!

  • Big Bad: Is one to the entire Drift trilogy, constantly plotting to consolidate his spot as the greatest street racer in all of Japan. Although he takes a step back in Chain Reaction, he returns with a vengeance in Touge Legends, having laid out an elaborate plan to reunite the Thirteen Devils, crush them through the Kingdom Twelve, destroy the street racing world, and then turn his team into a racing powerhouse across all motorsports disciplines.
  • Final Boss: Serves as one in Touge Legends alongside Jintei, both being leaders of their respective groups of bosses. Beating them will get Forever Knights to show up.
  • Heel–Face Turn: With the reveal that he's the true leader of the Kingdom Twelve, who exist solely to drive back the invading Thirteen Devils, Hamagaki appears to have put his domineering plans behind him for good in the name of street racers through-out Japan. It's a ruse, and a good one at that, to draw sympathy from the crowd and justify his later, even more tyrannical plans.
  • If I Can't Have You…: A platonic case towards a concept can be seen as Hamagaki's driving motivation. More specifically, he shows some morbid attachment to the title of "Emotional King" and all that holding it implies, so much so he becomes obsessed with getting revenge on Daiki and claiming the title back after losing it to him. When Toru defeats him and Daiki in Chain Reaction, putting his ambitions to rest for good, Hamagaki decides to start a years-long plot to destroy street racing altogether.
  • The Leader: The leader, founder, and financier of the Kingdom Twelve, a new team created to drive back the Thirteen Devils and protect the mountain passes of Japan. Except, not really...
