Midway

     General Artur Drakon
Head of Midway's Ground Forces. One of the leaders of their revolution.
  • The Dreaded: Drakon is a legendarily effective soldier, and the prospect of facing him in combat prompts a group of soldiers to desert in Corsair.
  • A Father to His Men: Drakon is willing to share the burden of combat with his men and avoid wasting their lives. This didn't sit well with his aggressive and cold-hearted superiors before he rebelled, but it did wonders for his reputation with the common soldiers.
  • Four-Star Badass: He is a combat-tested general whose command post is typically near the danger zone.
  • I Gave My Word: If he promises to spare someone's life, then he will keep that deal.

The President of Midway, and Drakon's (initially) tenuous ally.
  • Action Politician: She is Midway's President and a naval veteran who accompanies her Fleet on several dangerous missions.
  • Character Development: Iceni starts out as a veteran Corrupt Politician (albeit one who didn’t ' abandon her people during an alien invasion) who seizes power for pragmatic reasons. Once she has that power, she is deeply rattled she might disagree more with certain tyrannical and immoral actions that she previously thought, then eventually strives to do the right thing.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Iceni is humbled and fettered when she realizes that the public loves her and will do anything for her due to her initially pragmatic reforms. She is also deeply unnerved to realize that her complaints about an annoying political candidate caused her overzealous aide to kill the man.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Iceni frequently speculates (incorrectly) about Geary's motives and assumes he's running the Alliance now.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Iceni, who gets really mad when Malin tells her about how Morgan slept with Drakon, and then quickly turns around and wonders whether she was actually taking the news personally.

     Colonel Bran Malin
  • Chessmaster Sidekick: Drakon is the better battlefield Commander, but Malin is the one who implements a lot of long term and social strategies.
  • Colonel Badass: One of his functions with as a bodyguard and assassin and he has some wicked skills.
  • Long-Lost Relative: He's Morgan's son.
  • The Mole: Subverted, he gives information about Drakon to Iceni behind Drakon's back, but is actually doing it for the benefit of bringing them closer together.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: He is the blue to Morgan's red, being a practical, reserved man who is more cautious and less prone to unnecessarily violent actions.
  • The Spymaster: Maintains an intelligence network on Midway, although his specialty is ferreting out Snake spies, which he did a good job at sen while under 24-7 surveillance.
  • The Stoic: A man of strong emotions, but whose very good at camouflaging them.

    Colonel Roh Morgan
  • Dark Action Girl: One of the toughest fighters in the series, but not quite a good guy.
  • Human Popsicle: Long before the main series, she spent about two decades frozen in survival sleep, inside of a hollowed-out asteroid, as part of a failed mission to infiltrate Enigma space.
  • I Have Boobs, You Must Obey!: Tries this on occasion.
  • Psycho Supporter: A bit unstable, to say the least, but fiercely protective of Drakon.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Malin's blue, being a borderline psychotic whose always on the attack, and has somewhat reckless ambitions, but is by no means useless towards the others.
  • Suicide Mission: Volunteered for one against the Enigmas once but managed to survive it.

     Kommodor Asima Marphissa
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Very good at what she does.
  • The Idealist: Believes that Midway has the potential to accomplish real, and meaningful change. Her attitude rubs off on the others.

A commander under Drakon who fell in love with an Alliance officer.
     Colonel Connor Gaiene
A world-weary Brigade Commander under Drakon.

  • Hero-Worshipper: To Iceni.
  • The Smart Guy: A genius level commander who excels in outside the box tactics.

A brigade Commander.
  • The Stoic: His most notable trait his his lack of emotion.

     Mehmet Togo
Iceni's aide.

     Kaptain Diaz
The commander of Marphissa's flagship.
  • Forgiveness: He lost his sister to the Alliance in the war, but has learned to let go of that anger (at least as far as the Alliance is concerned, the Syndicate government is another story).
  • Rank Up: Was initially the Hyper-Competent Sidekick to the flagship commander until that guy made one mistake too many.
  • Undying Loyalty: A reliable guy determined to serve Midway the best he can.

     Celia Gozen
A Syndicate Soldier who defects to Midway and becomes one of Drakon's new aides.

A transport Captain captured by Midway who later joins them.

  • Make It Look Like an Accident: Several superiors who were planning on reporting her to the Snakes for one reason or another died in mysterious accidents before they could do so.
  • Old Soldier: She's a hardened, long-serving sailor.
  • Passed-Over Promotion: Has more age and experience than Marphissa, who is her overall commander. Mercia doesn't mind though, and appreciates Marphissa's talent.
  • You Are in Command Now: During the Battle of Varandal when a Snake executed her commander she shot the Snake, took command of the bridge and fought until the ship was too damaged to do more.

     Akiri
A supporter of Drakon and Iceni's coup who they quickly came to view as an annoyance.
  • Kicked Upstairs: He's promoted to a staff role by Iceni, supposedly as a reward for his help, but actually because she quickly decides that he'd be useless if left in a Naval position.
  • Pet the Dog: He did have friends in the Reserve Flotilla and shows sadness at hearing how it was essentially wiped out by the Alliance fleet.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: He is killed shortly after the revolt by a Snake assassin, who is then killed while going after Marphissa.

     Czilla
One of the officers aboard Marphissa's flagship.

The "Code monkey" for Drakon's forces.

     Beltsios
A code monkey aboard the battle cruiser Midway.
  • The Cracker: He's capable of hacking into enemy systems during battle.
Combat Systems Worker Fifth Class Devon Dupree
A soldier stationed at Ulindi.

Moorea

     Granile Immallye
A rival warlord who has a past with Iceni.
  • The Chessmaster: Convinced the Syndics to set her up as a fake independent warlord in order to overthrow them and become one for real.
  • You Killed My Father: Resents Iceni for contributing to her father's court-martial and death, but is willing to bury the hatchet to cooperate with her, recognizing that they make better allies than enemies and were both used by the Syndics.

Kane

     Rhian Wake
A citizen of Kane who revolts against the Syndicate Worlds, and becomes the system's provisional president by the events of Corsair after more than half the population is killed by an orbital bombardment in The Lost Stars
  • Action Politician: She keeps a rifle in a sling over her back and won't back down before an invasion force.
  • Badass Cape: Wake wears a red hood and cape in all of her appearances.
  • Defiant to the End: Declares that she'll fight to the end with her whole planet rather than surrender, something that seems to be the feeling of the populace at large. While she does expect help from Midway, she knows there is no certainty of it.
  • A Father to His Men: Well, mother anyway. She evacuates the civilians of the planet to bomb shelters as soon as the Syndics arrive and tells Colonel Orlando and his men to fight well, but not throw their lives away.
  • La RĂ©sistance: It's unclear if she was part of this before the previous free to attack Kane killed half the population in an orbital bombardment, but she certainly is now.
  • You Killed My Father: When the head of an invasion force offers to spare her family if she immediately surrenders, Wake replies that the orbital bombardment already killed her family.
  • Young and in Charge: Looks to be somewhere in her thirties.

     Colonel Mako Orlando
The head of Kane's ground forces.
  • Bald of Authority: He's bald and commands Kane's army for President Wake.
  • Colonel Badass: Takes to the field with his men and has a strong air of competent authority.
  • Take No Prisoners: In Outlands, Mako won't even consider sparing the lives of any prisoners from the Syndic invasion force until learning that their families were being held hostage.

     Greene
One of Wake's advisors at Kane.
  • The Smart Guy: He is introduced giving a thoughtful, pragmatic assessment of why Midway should help them, factoring in Realpolitik.

     Stephani Ivaskova
A leader of the Workers committee that rebels on Kane, who briefly encounters Iceni.

Ulindi

     CEO Jason Boyens
An officer form the Reserve Flotilla who works with and against Midway at differing times.
  • A Father to His Men: Downplayed, he cares about them, but rarely enough to risk himself.
  • The Cavalry: Arrives at Midway to assist against the Syndicate flotillas attacking it in parallel to the Battle of Iwa along with a few warships he convinced into defecting to the Phoenix Stars.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: Although he isn't happy about it, he helps the Syndicate Worlds until he defects to avoid You Have Failed Me, although he becomes a useful ally in his own right.
  • Reassigned to Antarctica: Sent to Midway for protesting a hostile takeover of his start-up company.

     Dingane Paige
A survivor of the purges on Ulindi and prominent member of its new government.
  • The Creon: Seems happy to take orders/advice from Boyens after he's sent to Ulindi.
  • Humble Hero: Outright admits feeling unqualified next to all of the more outspoken dissidents on Ulindi who were killed.
  • Nervous Wreck: Described as a bit on edge all of the time.

Taroa

     Kamara
A former subordinate of Drakon's, and a prominent figure in the Rebellion of the neighboring system of Taroa, which becomes allies with Midway.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: Serves as one to the political side of Taroa's new government. Drakon predicts she'll go far.
  • Take No Prisoners: She will take some prisoners but has designated the members of several units which committed war crimes as "kill only" throughout the campaign.
  • Too Good to Be True: Seems vaguely suspicious that Drakon and Midway's unconditional, unrequested, game-changing help might be an attempt to take over Taroa.

     Mentasa
A survivor of Kontos's original crew who later helps establish peaceful relations with his own homeward of Taroa.
  • Old Soldier: He's a frontline soldier whose age stands out in comparison to his youthful superior, Kontos.

Kahiki

    The leaders of Kahiki
The half-dozen people running Kahiki, a sparsely populated planet devoted to scientific research. They overthrow their Internal Security minders due to fear about sharing the fate of Kane.
  • Hufflepuff House: Kahiki is the only star system in the newly formed Phoenix Stars to have their revolt take place entirely off-screen, none of the Kahiki rebels are named, and the ambassador they send to meet with the other star systems only has three lines. Their scientific research is discussed in some plot-relevant ways, though.
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: Drakon recognizes one of them as the former executive officer of CEO Santori, the planet's garrison commander (who apparently died in the revolt) and notes that during their previous meeting, she seemed to be "unhappy but professional, trying to keep things running despite Santori's lack of leadership."
  • No Name Given: None of them are named.

Batara

     Naxos and Araya
A pair of Syndicate refugee leaders who appear in Beyond the Frontier.
  • A House Divided: They fell victim to this. They were part of the rebel forces who drove out the Syndicate government of Batara, but didn't have enough common goals with their new leaders, and were kicked off the planet.
  • Almighty Janitor: Naxos has spent his entire career as a line worker, albeit one who advanced just enough that people around him follow his lead.
  • Benevolent Boss: Araya describes herself as having tried to listen to the input of her workers, although she displays concern about whether or not she'd ever stopped doing so and not even noticed.
  • Cool Old Guy: Naxos. Even the Syndic-wary Alliance soldiers who spend enough time around him start calling him by his first name.
  • Ensign Newbie: Araya is described as being too young to have fully been beaten into submission by life under the Syndicate system.
  • The Exile: When they're introduced, although Geary sends them back to Batara and ensures a change in government (as well as putting a stop to the threat their more trigger-happy rival neighboring system poses to the Alliance system of Adrianna).
  • La RĂ©sistance: They helped rise up against the old Syndicate government before being exiled by the power-hungry new government.
  • Large and in Charge: Naxos is described as a man of heavy build, and even Araya shows him some deference.
  • Noodle Incident: Araya was blackballed by a CEO to never receive any future promotions while stuck at the lowest level possible above worker but it's never explained why (although standing up to Sexual Extortion or displaying some sign of humanity in front of a General Ripper are likely options).
  • The Paranoiac: An Alliance officials describes Araya as "looking at me like she expects me to cut her throat during the next sleep period." This is entirely justified, considering what kind of place the Syndicate Worlds was.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Have a bit of this, with Naxos being more thoughtful and deliberate than Araya, who is easily frustrated by the circumstances they're in.
  • Reluctant Ruler: Ruler is a strong word, but Naxos is described as being a bit surprised by the deference he gets from his fellow refugees and uncomfortable with it at first, although he quickly gets better.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Feel a little of this upon being informed by Geary that, contrary to what they'd grown up hearing, it was the Syndicate Worlds who started the war.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Araya has a moment of this, according to one of the Alliance officers accompanying Geary's mission after finding out that their former government has allied with a more militaristic, authoritarian neighboring system.
Colonel Kim: The refugee leader Araya is certain from the transmissions we're been picking up that what she calls the "damned cowardly greedy revolution-betraying traitors-to-the-people" who've been running Batara have sold out to Tiyannak.

Atalia

     The Senior CEOs of Atalia
The leaders of a Syndicate Worlds border system.
  • Defector from Decadence: Constantly ravaged on the frontlines of the war, and fed up with the Syndicate government, as soon as the Alliance fleet is posing a threat to them (and the loyalist elements in the system have died attacking them) they promptly announce their surrender to the Alliance government, the first time such an event has happened.
  • The Load: The Alliance government views them as not having enough resources (and too much bad blood) to be worth absorbing them into the Alliance after their surrender and drags its feet about giving them serious aid or diplomatic status.
  • No Name Given: None of them are ever named.

Heradao

    The Free Heradao Governing Council
The leaders of a rebel group on the planet Heradao.
  • Minor Major Character: They are in charge of the first known Syndic resistance group to launch a successful rebellion after enduring centuries of tyranny, but Geary never bothers to personally talk to them due to having too much going on at the time.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: They have not been mentioned since Relentless, and it is unclear if the Syndicate Worlds ever reconquered Heradao or left them alone while focusing on other, more important rebel systems.

Others

     Executive Destina Aragon
A Syndicate defector who allies with Michael Geary during the events of the Corsair comic series.

     Sub-Executive Alark Harbin
Aragon's second in command, and fellow defector.
  • Beneath Notice: He and his whole family have spent years working on this to avoid falling victim to Syndicate purges.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Takes out an ISS soldier about to shoot Aragon in the back.
  • The Cynic: Downplayed, but he's described as being a bit fatalistic after so many years of having nearly all of his men killed while the CEOs responsible got promoted.
  • The Creon: States that he prefers to be second in command when Aragon jokes that he would have been left in charge if he hadn't saved her.
  • Facial Horror: Has a metal plate over the left side of his face as the result of battle injuries that he wasn't authorized to have fixed, due to the belief that he'd get killed soon enough anyway.
  • Number Two: To Aragon.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: He's the blue to Nedele's red, being a silent, supportive figure who approves of mediation and is willing to make an effort to work things out with the Alliance soldiers.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Aragon. He appreciates her leadership and saves her life even when he could have let her die and then taken over the unit himself.

     Sub-Executive Kat Nedele

Aragon's other aide.

  • The Dog Bites Back: Has clearly experienced resentment and/or suffering at the hands of the Snakes and relishes any chance to kill them.
  • Fiery Redhead: Repeatedly advocates shooting one of the Alliance soldiers as an example to the other, and clashes with them in the corridors sometimes. She also enjoys fighting the Snakes.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's the red to Harbin's blue, being a brave and competent soldier, but one who hasn't yet shaken off the ruthless Syndicate mentality.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Works very tensely with the Alliance POWS.

     Sub-CEO Pers Garadun
A liberated Syndicate POW and acquaintance of Rogero.
  • Goal in Life: Once he wanted to explore the frontiers of space, before finding out about the Enigma Race. After hearing about what Geary has found, this interest is revived.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He was fully prepared to blow up an Alliance Hypernet Gate to avenge Kalixa. Naturally, he is left shaken to find out that this was part of the Enigma Race's Batman Gambit and that they destroyed Kalixa.
  • Put on a Bus: He leaves to rejoin his family in Syndicate space rather than go back to Midway, but promises to try and defect with them someday.
