    Lieral Lieutolu

Lieral Lieutolu

Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama (JP), Jason Douglas (EN)

A mysterious and extremely powerful man whom Sion and Lucile seem to view as an enemy. He's Ryner's dad who cares only about looking out for his family.

  • The Ace: It's agreed upon by everyone who knows him that he's by far the most powerful human around. Oh, and that even Ryner doesn't hold a candle to him.
  • Affably Evil: Very friendly if you ignore his heavily skewed moral compass.
  • Alliterative Name: Lieral Lieutolu.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Especially when it comes to Ryner's love life.
  • Anti-Hero/Anti-Villain: Much like Tiir, while his ultimate motivations are sympathetic, which of the two tropes he is tends to depend on the situation.
  • Badass Finger Snap: Does this on occasion, given his level of magic.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit
  • Berserk Button: He doesn't react well when Ene tells him that he's been deceived.
  • Broken Ace: In his own words, entirely sincerely:
    Regrettably, I am a genius.
  • Bystander Syndrome: When younger, as he considered the possibility that Roland was cursed... before deciding that it wasn't his job to fix things. Like father, like son.
  • Celibate Hero: Before meeting Iruna, he was asexual.
  • Combat Compliment: He's praised a fair number of his opponents.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: The Goddesses and whatnot couldn't notice Ryner for Ryner's own safety, and seeing as how Lieral had caught their attention, staying with Ryner wouldn't have been very safe.
  • Declaration of Protection: He swore to protect his family at all costs. He half-succeeded.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Towards Iruna in the past, though she ended up reciprocating his feelings much sooner than the typical example, as his utter perseverance touched her.
  • The Gadfly: Hence why he's not very popular with the other characters.
  • Good Parents: Teasing aside, it's undeniable how much he cares for his son.
  • Happily Married: Or at least he was, before things got worse.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He uses the last of his magic to bring Ene back to life, thus disappearing for good.
  • Kill the Ones You Love: To save Ryner, he had to sacrifice (the willing) Iruna.
  • The Mad Hatter: Not quite loopy, exactly, but he fully acknowledges that he's a madman who would break the entire world if that's what it took to save his son.
  • Manipulative Bastard: You can thank him for the way Lucile turned out.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: To an extent. Lieral claims to have no muscles and is terrible at farming compared to Iruna, who even claimed that he wasn't very manly early on due to how much he was apologizing to her.
  • Mistaken for Gay: His father initially assumed this to be the reason he wasn't interested in girls.
  • Meet Cute: Met Iruna when she tripped in front of him and poked fun at him for apparently not being concerned.
  • Noble Fugitive: Granted, he screwed over the world for the sake of his son, so he might kind of deserve to be labelled as a traitor.
  • Nominal Hero: As someone who sees a lot of himself in Lucile, it should be no surprise that he's motivated only by the well-being of his loved ones.
  • Pet the Dog: After spending most of his appearances seeming to care about no one other than his family, he sacrifices himself for Ene, realizing that her death is partly his own fault.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: To Iruna before she sacrificed herself, despite knowing they were at a point where that was no longer possible.
  • Secret Test of Character: He tests Ferris in his debut to see if she cares for Ryner above all else.
  • Shared Family Quirks: See Ryner's section.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: Used to be one, as he was too focused on magic to realize how corrupt the country was.
  • Shipper on Deck: Openly supports Ryner and Ferris, much to their embarassment. Knowing Lieral, though, he could just be doing it for the fun of it.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Never had any interest in romance whatsoever—and then Iruna happened.
  • Spanner in the Works: One for the entire world, since the gods were really not expecting anyone to willingly break the world for his son.
  • Story-Breaker Power: Being a magic genius to end all geniuses, he has virtually a method for everything. However, he mostly stays in the background, seeing as how he only cares about protecting Ryner, but is unable to stay close and so works more so by manipulating others and interfering directly only when necessary.
  • Supernaturally Young Parent: Due to being The Ageless and/or being able to shapeshift. This is why Ryner initially refuses to believe that Lieral could be his father, as he apparently hasn't aged a day in the last fifteen years.
  • Uptown Girl: A gender-switched version. He's a noble, while Iruna's a farmer's daughter.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's rather difficult to talk about him without revealing that he's Ryner's father.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: His existence is fading away—Iruna's death is a sign that he's going to disappear sooner or later.

    Iruna Lieutolu

Iruna Lieutolu

Voiced by: Yuko Gibu (JP)

Lieral's wife and the light of his life. Unlike her husband, she was a commoner before marrying him.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Received a lot of flack for being a commoner who married a noble.
  • Badass Pacifist: Not a fighter like her husband, but you have to admit that someone who gracefully subjects herself to years of suffering all to protect her son is pretty impressive. There's a reason Lieral believes she deserved better than him.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: A gentle and sweet lady... who, when pushed to desperation, was going to Mercy Kill her son.
  • Dude Magnet: She was apparently very popular before marrying Lieral, albeit uninterested in her all of her suitors.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She had to die in order to protect Ryner.
  • It's All My Fault: That her and Lieral's son turned out to be an Alpha Stigma bearer.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Back when she and Lieral were dating, with her being a strong farmer compared to Lieral's bookworm-ness.
  • Mercy Kill: Intended to do this to Ryner—or rather, Felna—as it would be a kinder fate than letting the military have him, but again, Lieral interfered.
  • Uptown Girl: She and Lieral come from very different classes.

    The Mad Hero

The Mad Hero

Otherwise known as Asruld Roland. He was created for the sake of killing the Goddesses, which eventually led to him meeting Ryner Eris Reed—and from there, the rest is history.

  • Ambiguously Evil: Often not portrayed in the kindest of lights, given that he wanted to destroy everything, but when 'everything' was primarily the Goddesses, who aren't exactly saints, and he wasn't actually capable of thinking any other way, it's hard to pin him down.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Yeah, he's not too good at anything other than attacking everything.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: Devours the 'Ryner' half of Ryner Eris Reed to obtain his power.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: In the anime, he appears both in the first opening and as the 'hero' while Ryner explains about the Hero Relics in the first episode.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Briefly approached this, when he thought that he'd lost the meaning to his life. Preventing this was why Ryner Eris Reed offered half his body to him.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While obsessed with destroying everything, he does does appreciate having Ryner by his side, stating that he might've gone insane without him.
  • The Unfettered: He wanted to kill everything, just in case you didn't get the memo.

    The Lonesome Demon

The Lonesome Demon

Otherwise known as Ryner Eris Reed. His origins are a mystery. Trapped in a separate dimension for countless years, he eventually met Asruld, from which everything began.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: In the anime, similarly to the Mad Hero.
  • The Corrupter: The Eris demon was this for the Eris family.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Viewed as this by others, despite generally being well-meaning.
  • Emotionless Girl: In Sion Note, the Eris half takes the form of one, as most emotions went to the Ryner half.
  • Facial Markings: The tear on his face, which was an actual tear that he engraved.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: Or rather, he already was a bit... odd in the head to begin with, but it just got worse after meeting the Mad Hero.
  • Love Martyr: Comes across as this at first, but ultimately subverted. Sacrificing himself for Asruld benefited him just as much as it benefited Asruld, really.
  • No Biological Sex: Possibly, as while he seems male, the Eris half took the form of a woman.
  • Our Demons Are Different: The Ryner half is generally benevolent, for starters, and while the Eris half is responsible for the Eris family's problems, it wishes Lucile happiness in the end.
  • Story-Breaker Power: The strongest being around, what with being a Reality Warper—except he was sealed for most of his (properly alive) life, and now, aside from not quite being alive, he's been split into two.
  • Superpower Lottery

    The Goddess of Reincarnation

The Goddess of Reincarnation

Otherwise known as Milk Ephillet. Asruld's original mating partner, and the one who sent him to meet Ryner Eris Reed. Presently resides in Milk Callaud, the human form she reincarnated into.

  • Femme Fatale: Has shades of this, which is more than a little disturbing considering what her human side is like.
  • Humanity Is Infectious: Or rather, her human side is.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Upon deciding to ally with the Mad Hero.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Went around devouring other Goddesses after, again, deciding to accompany Asruld.
  • It Amused Me: A good chunk of her main motivation.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Very intrigued by the Mad Hero.
  • Shipper on Deck: While not necessarily in a romantic sense, she's utterly fascinated by the relationship between the Mad Hero and the Lonesome Demon, as well as supporting her human side with Ryner.
  • Stepford Smiler: A Type C, unlike her human incarnation.
