The Ivory Household

    Randal Ivory
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/profilerandal.png
The 'young master' of the household and main character. He's a sadistic and extremely strange young man.
  • The Ageless: Appearance never changes with time, never actually aging.
  • Ambiguously Human: Randal is described as "human-like cryptid" in the character data section of Captain Howdie's Website.
  • Author Avatar: Randal is a self insert of the author, who matches their appearance 1:1.
  • Ax-Crazy: Randal likes knives. Depicted stabbing things to the point that it's his brand almost as much as it is for Nyen, although Randal is more flexible with his stabbing weapon of choice.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Even for the surreality of the world, Randal is very out there mentally.
  • Combat Sadomasochist: Randal loves all things violence, and treats everything including such as a game. From Sebastian punching him square in the face in Lucid 6, to enjoying the torture that he and Sebastian are subject to at the "Smile Diner" in Lucid 4.
Randal: Resisting. It feels good when you do that.
  • Creator's Favorite: He's clearly Howdie's favorite.
  • Evil Puppeteer: Frequently uses his dolls and puppets to his own agenda.
  • Feel No Pain: Randal laughs off and even seems to get excited off the presence of physical harm.
  • Marionette Master: He has been depicted to be able to use marionettes within a fighting game concept.
  • NEET: Randal is referred to as a NEET several times in the comics.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: Randal has been able to come back from the worst of things, to even popping a doll eye in replace of his missing one as if it were trivial in Lucid 18.
  • Nosebleed: Randal has constant nosebleeds over anything that gets a reaction out of him.
  • Older Than They Look: Described as timeless, yet still dresses in a gakuran, and looks like a rowdy child.
  • Really 700 Years Old: At the start of Lucid 21, Randal is described as "17 going on 700."
  • Slasher Smile: Takes great pleasure in the thought of soon to be violence, grinning and nosebleeding all the way through.
  • Unexplained Recovery: At the end of Lucid 9, Randal looks very much dead with flies buzzing around his dismembered head, but is somehow fine in the next Lucid.
  • Unusual Pets for Unusual People: Randal has a human pet named Sebastian de Tomato Smith Chicken Legs.
  • Vague Age: Has been referred to as a ninth grader, and a fourteen year old on various accounts. However, it hasn't been retconned, but added onto in Randal's character data, saying he's "14, 15, 16, 17, etc (is timeless.)"

    Luther Von Ivory
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lutherref_0.png
The master of the household and older brother of Randal. He's more well-adjusted than his brother but no less weird.
  • Ambiguously Human: Luther is described as "humanoid" in his character data.
  • Become a Real Boy: Played With. Luther has been described as "a very weird person who is trying to be normal", and he seems to be receptive to humans and may even help them. One of his hobbies has been listed as people-watching, and he also likes it when people say "we humans". It is unknown how much of his human interest is out of a desire to imitate them, or whether he wants to actually be human instead of humanoid. Alternatively, he could just be trying to keep up appearances.
  • Caring Gardener: Luther apparently enjoys gardening, symbolising his wannabe-gentle personality.
  • Chainsaw Good: Luther extends himself to using a chainsaw as a backup weapon in Lucid 23.
  • Classy Cane: Sometimes spotted using a cane. Whether or not this is only for accessory is a mystery.
  • Cute Is Evil: Luther has been described in the beginning of Lucids to find himself to be cute, while children find him to be weird, and parents find him to be concerning, as seen in the 2014 Halloween Special.
  • Dramatic Irony: The seemingly well-adjusted Luther makes a big show before the 'Jim Carrey Goes To The Dentist' game, saying that the players must be as gentle and sweet as possible while removing the teeth so they don't wake up Jim. Everyone at the table succeeds except Luther, who removes a tooth and fills the house with screams from Jim Carrey. He then shuffles off while announcing that he's going to his garden, where "they'll appreciate my hands there".
  • Frozen Face: His expression is almost always the same - wide unexpressive eyes and a flat mouth.
  • Gosh Dang It to Heck!: It's implied in Luther's character data that he does not like swearing. He only uses a clean version of swear words.
  • Handguns: Luther always carries a pistol-like gun around with him.
  • Hidden Eyes: The blush spots on his cheeks are actually another pair of eyes. It's unknown if they're any different to his "regular" eyes, but they do seem to twitch open whenever he's very emotional, as seen in Lucid 10.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Luther has been depicted preparing dinner with the rest of the household to compliment a human body he believed to be dead found in Lucid 4.
  • Love Freak: He has been described as loving everyone very much, especially his family. He's also very concerned about everyone's food, water, and sleep intake, although this could be another invested attempt at trying to be human.
  • Mask of Sanity: Luther is the most pleasant to humans, but is just as crazy as the rest of the household.
  • My Beloved Smother: Consistently orders around Randal to go take naps at odd times of the day, corrects his sentences, even felt the urge to fix Randal's uniform, had it gone undone would have bothered him otherwise. In general, orders the house around like it's no big deal, but tends to put everyone into family activities that feel forced and ingenuine.
  • Offstage Villainy: Luther used to be an even worse person before the events of the comics. In Lucid 21, Randal states that Luther used to kill vermin that would end up in his house.
  • Spock Speak: His attempts to communicate with others typically leave them unsettled from his monotone, pointed, speech patterns. He often struggles to understand or use modern concepts, often choosing to attempt to use them or drop them mid sentence with a biting "or whatever".
  • Suddenly Bilingual: Luther speaks German briefly yet fluently, anywhere from simple words to sentences, but always switches back to English. How he knows, is unknown, and even confuses Randal as to why he speaks this way.
  • Unusual Pets for Unusual People: Luther has owned many pets throughout his life, including a giant snake and cat people.

    Nyen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/profilenyen.png
A catman pet of Luther's. Also doubles as a butler and pest control.
  • Affectionate Nickname: 'Nee-Nee', from Luther.
  • Battle Butler: Nyen is willing to go to the lengths of killing the Ratmen, as seen in Lucid 17 through Lucid 21 if it means keeping his master Luther in good spirits.
  • Blackface-Style Caricature: Nyen was originally written and depicted in pitch black skin and face with white eyes and lips. It doesn't help that he was written to be the aggressive one in the cast, owned as a "slave" by Luther Von Ivory.
  • Blood Knight: He's very intimidating and violent, and has one of the highest danger levels in the house.
  • Cat Boy: His "ears" are a hat that he sometimes removes, he can drive, he's a heavy smoker, and the only thing linking him to being a cat is his ability to meow and penchant for killing vermin. Unlike Nyon, he's been shown talking in full English sentences and can hold a conversation, which overall suggests he's more intelligent.
  • Cuteness Proximity: He enjoys romance manga after being introduced to it by Randal.
  • Evil Wears Black: He's always shown wearing a black 'Nevada' t-shirt and tan jeans, and also has long black nails.
  • Jerkass: Nyen is an aggressive character and is especially cruel to Sebastian and Nyon.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is a play on the onomatopoeic Japanese word nya (にゃ); a cat's meow.
  • Mysterious Past: According to his data page, Nyen was formerly a 'normal human' before being taken in by Luther, and gained traits from his master as time went on (which suggests why he's the third-most important person in the house and also why his danger level is so high). His name is also suggested to be Biblical, "like Michael or Andrew or Jacob".
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The aggressive, violent, and selfish Red to Nyon's shy and docile Blue.
  • Shout-Out: His t-shirt will sometimes say Nirvana, and he seems to be passionate about them. According to a doodle, his favorite songs are apparently Dumb, Heart-Shaped Box, and Lake of Fire (originally by The Meat Puppets, but covered by the band).
Nyen: Still there are assholes online who go "Kurt Cobain was 'fake' because he only acted like he didn't want to be in the spotlight". He can be whoever he wants to be.

    Nyon
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/profilenyon.png
Luther's other catman pet. He's much shyer than his counterpart and prefers to spend his days playing videogames.
  • Affectionate Nickname: 'Noo-Noo', by Luther.
  • Cat Boy: Despite being closer to the original trope, he's still rather unique. He's referred to as a catman, he's bipedal, and his "ears" have been specifically called a hat by Howdie, suggesting they're not actually attached to his head. However, he's also been shown to exhibit cat-like behaviours such as loafing, disliking dogs, and he appears to have a tail. Overall, he's considerably more of a cat-like creature than Nyen.
Howdie: He's never been seen without his hat on. It's possible it can't come off.
  • Cowardly Yellow: He's always seen in a pale yellow t-shirt and blue jeans, symbolising his shy and non-offensive nature.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite being timid and kindly, he is still loyal to Luther and would do anything for him. He's also shown to enjoy Dostoevsky novels.
  • Meaningful Name: His name is a play on the onomatopoeic Japanese word nya (にゃ); a cat's meow.
  • Mysterious Past: Implied on his data page:
Howdie: Before living in the main house, his face and name was a different persona. It is long gone however.
  • Property of Love: Luther's property. His pet catman who fantasizes about his Master's attention.
  • The Quiet One: Nyon is a man of few words. Most of his dialogue is a sentence or two in English or a few words in Russian.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The shy and docile Blue to Nyen's aggressive, violent, and selfish Red.

Sebastian de Tomato Smith Chicken Legs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sebastian_de_tomato_smith_chicken_legs.png
Randal's human pet who is often looking for ways to escape.
  • Ambiguous Disorder: He's shown to constantly be tired, which is a textbook sign of depression. Not surprising, living under Randall's care...
  • Ambiguously Human: He's the closest thing to human in the house... sort of. His data page says that at his core he will always be human, but he "maybe [has] some other things too in there now".
Howdie: Did you know? If humans' hearts beat too fast they can die, but he's not a regular human hahhaha.
  • Butt-Monkey: He's the lowest in the house's hierarchy and often subject to humiliation or experiments from the other members. His most notable outfit is very jester-esque, symbolizing this.
  • Hidden Depths: His danger level apparently fluctuates depending on who the person is and his circumstances, and he's described as having "potential". He's also been shown to try and escape Randal's care by any means necessary, even if punishment means death or torture.
  • Human Pet: Sebastian is Randal's pet despite him not wanting to be.
  • Made a Slave: Taken against his will and bought by Luther for Randal's birthday.
  • Mysterious Past: We have no idea how he ended up in the human pet store, what he did before being bought to the mansion, or if he's even from the same universe as the rest of the cast.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Sebastian de Tomato Smith Chicken Legs" is a name given by Randal. He has yet to say what his real name is.
  • Only Sane Man: Sebastian is the only character who acknowledges how weird certain things in the story are.

    Nana
Luther's female pet snake.
  • Costume Evolution: Nana sheds her skin in Lucid 17 and has a much different design.
  • The Great Serpent: She's much larger than even a green anaconda, and easily had room in her stomach for both Sebastian and Luther to sit there.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female character in the cast.
  • Snake People: She has a snake's body but a woman's head.
  • The Spook: Nana has no information on her character data page and very little is known about her. We don't even know how she ended up at the mansion.

    Satoru Tsukada
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/profiletsukada.png
Randal's dream-friend who wishes to become real.
  • Affectionate Parody: Satoru retains a nostalgic, bright eyed anime school boy styled appearance, taken after Randal's fixation on anime.
  • Animesque: Drawn with an anime-like art style in contrast to everyone else.
  • Grand Theft Me: Even if it means asking Sebastian to trade places with him.. Which he declines, but threatens will happen eventually.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: Satoru is willing to do anything for Randal, to spend more time with him.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Attempted murder of Luther within Randal's dreamscape because he was interfering with their hangout plans.
  • Weaker in the Real World: Bound to dreams and unable to reach the world of the awake.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Satoru wants to hang out with Randal more outside of the dreamscape. By any means necessary!
