Protagonists

     Izuku Midoriya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/izuku_midoriya_s4.png
A hero-in-training from another world. After the Gods of Light and Darkness informed him that his friends' souls were transported and reincarnated on Remnant, Izuku agrees to go to Remnant to get them back home.
  • Badass in Distress: Izuku gets knocked out and kidnapped by the Hound after knocking him around and throwing him towards a dust grenade.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Izuku is always willing to jump head straight into danger whenever anyone's in danger. When the brother gods informed him of the fate of his friends, he immediately jumped at the chance to save them. While admirable, this doesn't always help Izuku as he later realized he could've asked the gods how to make his friends remember their lives on Earth.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: More like "Gotta FIND 'em all"; Izuku's mission is to find all of his reincarnated friends on Remnant, and restore their memories of their lives on Earth.
  • Hope Bringer: Izuku is starting to become this for Ozpin as he didn't run away despite knowing that Salem is immortal. He's also impressed that Izuku cares about his new friends on Remnant despite only knowing them for a few days despite the high-stakes mission he has on his hands.
  • Instant Expert: Ozpin notes that Izuku quickly learned how to control the level of Aura despite being relatively new to Remnant as such a feat takes years for most Hunstmen to accomplish.
  • Irony: Izuku used to hate the nickname, Deku, in his past due Katsuki bullying him as a result of his former Quirkless status. When Katsuki Bell calls him "Broccoli Hair" due to not remembering him in his life on Remnant, Izuku missed Katsuki calling him by his usual nickname.
  • Lightning Bruiser: With the power of One For All, Izuku can use a technique called "Full Cowling" where he can move super fast while also unleashing a barrage of powerful punches and kicks down on his opponents.
  • Magnetic Hero: Like with his classmates at 1A, Izuku's charismatic and heroic personality, and hard work etiquette enabled him to earn the respect of his new friends at Beacon, even Weiss respects him and during her fallout with Ruby yells why couldn't Izuku be the leader of her team.
  • Mission from God: After Salem warped and reincarnated his friends to Remnant, the Gods of Light and Darkness gave him the means necessary to get them back.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Due to him following Katsuki around, in the hopes of helping the blonde wolf Faunus regain his memories of his life on Earth, Yang wonders if Izuku is homosexual.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Under the belief that Goodwitch knows about Salem's Complete Immortality, Izuku lets out the fact that Salem is unkillable which makes the Huntress start to question whether all the questionable things she done where All for Nothing.
  • Properly Paranoid: Izuku is worried that the new lives that his friends have experienced would lead them down the path of villainy. This fear would come true as the end of Chapter 3 reveals Momo working as a Mob boss for the Spider Syndicate, and he later finds out that Eijiro has joined the White Fang.
  • Reincarnation: The way the gods transported Izuku to Remnant is by taking his soul and putting it in a copy of his body wearing his hero costume that they created. Because of this, Izuku has a body where his arms are now healed and the knowledge to avoid damaging them further.
  • Secret-Keeper: Ozpin made Izuku promise not to mention Salem's immortality to anyone. Hoever, believing that Ozpin's inner circle knew the truth, Izuku lets it slip that Salem is immortal to Glynda.

     Ruby Rose
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rwby_ruby.png
A gifted student who got admitted into Beacon two years earlier than her classmates. She aspires to become a Huntress and hero like her mother.
  • Birds of a Feather: Ozpin notes that both Ruby and Izuku are altruistic individuals who are willing to put their lives on the line to save people they barely know not unlike Ruby's later mother, Summer Rose.
  • Dramatic Irony: Ruby has no idea that the friend she plays video games online with is an enforcer for a crime syndicate and a villain in another world.
  • Genki Girl: She's enthusiastic, energetic, and excitable pretty much all the time, especially if the subject is on heroes or weapons.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: It's revealed she plays online video games with Tenko, not knowing what he does in his past-time.
  • Nice Girl: She's a nice, awkward, friendly, girl who is just shy and wants to get along with the people she calls her friends.
  • No Social Skills: She's an awkward girl who has trouble making friends as she feels uncomfortable talking to anyone aside from her family. She seems to be getting along with Izuku though.
  • Red Is Heroic: Her main Color Motif is red along with black.
  • Secret-Keeper: After eavesdropping on Izuku and Katsuki's conversation, Ruby comes to figure out the former's situation and the reason he's here in Beacon.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to Weiss's girly girl.

Earth Reincarnates

     In General
A group of individuals from Earth who had their souls taken and reborn on Remnant. Izuku is sent to Remnant by the Brother Gods to find them all before Salem does, who plans on using them for her dark schemes.
  • Age Lift: Izuku's friends are all sixteen-years old before they had their souls taken. Due to timeframes of Earth and Remnant being different, Izuku's friends have all been aged up to seventeen-years old. This even applies to Shigaraki, who went from twenty-years old to seventeen once he was also reincarnated.
  • Amnesiac Hero: All the reincarnates, minus Shigaraki, are heroes-in-training who have been reborn with no memories of their lives on Earth. It's up to Izuku to awaken them in order for them to remember and for their souls to return to their original bodies on Earth when they die on Remnant.
    • Katsuki fully regains his memories by the end of Chapter 7.
  • Empty Shell: With their souls no longer present in their bodies on Earth, their bodies are left in a lifeless, catatonic state with their eyes glassed over with no movement shown at all. Unless Izuku restores their memories on Remnant, they won't regain consciousness.
  • My Skull Runneth Over: When Katsuki regained his memories of his life on Earth, he started experiencing really bad headaches due to the clash of his memories from Earth and Remnant. Ozpin notes that reconciling more than one life inside one mind is neither an easy nor an enjoyable process, showing that the reincarnates are not going to have an easy time.
  • Past-Life Memories: All the reincarnates have the memories of their lives on Earth buried deep within their subconscious, Izuku's mission is to awaken his friends' memories so that their souls will return to their bodies back on Earth when they die. But if they die without remembering their past lives, their souls will never return to their original bodies.
  • Reincarnate in Another World: Seven individuals from the My Hero world had their souls exorcised from their bodies and reborn on the world of Remnant with no memory of their lives on Earth due to a spell gone-wrong by Salem.
  • Reincarnation-Identifying Trait: The God of Light explains to Izuku that souls influence the growth of the body they are in and that no matter the type of upbringing his friends might have had, they will be still the same people he knew deep down. Sure enough, when Izuku met Katsuki he looked the same aside from being reborn as a Faunus and also noticed he had his Explosion Quirk and that he is just as prone to rage as he was on Earth; this confirms that the rest of the reincarnates all have their general looks, Quirks, and personality traits.
  • Wrong Context Magic: All the reincarnates still possess their Quirks on Remnant though they are mistaken as Semblances by other people. Since they are not derived from the soul, their Aura doesn't run out when they use them.
     Katsuki Bell
Izuku's rival on Earth who has been reincarnated as a wolf Faunus on Remnant.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Katsuki was reborn as a wolf faunus on Remnant.
  • All for Nothing: Discussed. Once Katsuki regained his memories as Katsuki Bakugo, he initially denies it, refusing to believe all the hard work he put in to becoming a Huntsman turned out to be a "side quest". Izuku assures him though that while the techniques he used during their fight were from Katsuki Bakugo, the usage of his gear and equipment are from Katsuki Bell.
  • Amnesiac Resonance: Happens to Katsuki during he and Izuku's fight in chapter 7. Bakugo is losing due to Deku knowing his fighting style so well but in his need to 'not lose', especially to Izuku, who he subconsciously recognizes as his rival from Earth, he pushes himself to remember his signature moves STUN GRANADE, AP SHOT, and HOWITZER IMPACT in the heat of battle. This lets him turn the tide of the fight and fully regain his memories.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Katsuki is violent and rude to almost everyone but he has a soft spot for Kali, Blake's mom, as she was his Parental Substitute when his Remnant parents died. He even respectfully calls her "ma'am" which baffles Izuku and makes him wonder if Kali hypnotized Katsuki with some magic as Katsuki is never respectful to any authority figures back home, not even his own mother.
  • Childhood Friends: He and Eijiro grew up together once Katsuki reached Menargerie.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: It wouldn't be Katsuki if he wasn't this. Even being reincarnated on Remnant, he's as explosive and prone to rage as ever. This gets even worse once he got his past memories back.
  • Having a Blast: His Quirk lets him create powerful explosions from his hands due to his sweat containing properties similar to nitroglycerin.
  • Little Bit Beastly: He has wolf ears as his Faunus trait.
  • The Nicknamer: Like on Earth, Katsuki calls people through horrible nicknames he comes up with. The only people exempt from this are those he respects like Pyrrha Nikos.

     Eijiro Bell
Katsuki's friend who has been reincarnated as a Faunus on Remnant.

     Momo Malachite
Momo is Class 1A's vice rep who has been reincarnated as a top enforcer of the Spider Syndicate.
  • Adaptational Badass: Momo on Earth is a Squishy Wizard at best while on Remnant she's skilled with a lot of the weapons she creates as shown when she took down a whole room of Mooks without much effort.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: On Earth, Momo is a kind and polite girl. After being reincarnated as a mob boss on Remnant, Momo is cold, professional, and is not too afraid to kill her enemies. She even calls the Faunus "animals" which is a racial slur against them, something the Momo on Earth would never do as she has heteromorphic friends.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: On Earth, Momo and Shigaraki are enemies due to being on opposing sides. On Remnant, they are fraternal twins raised to be top enforcers of the Spider Syndicate.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Momo went from a hero-in-training on Earth to one of the most proficient and cunning mob bosses on Remnant after Salem's spell reincarnated her.
  • Dark Action Girl: Momo on Remnant is as skilled and cunning as she is beautiful. She is capable of using both her Quirk and Semblance to great and terrific effect.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Momo is no angel on Remnant, but she does love her brother, Tenko, with the feeling being mutual.
  • Evil Virtues: The same people skills, intelligence, and organizational talents that made Momo such a well liked and valuable member of class 1-A have carried over to her reincarnation to make her a feared, respected, efficient, and cunning mob boss.
  • Evil vs. Evil: She plans on overthrowing Roman Torchwick as the top dog of Vale by robbing all the dust shops.
  • Fantastic Racism: She doesn't seem to hold the Faunus in high regards as calls them "animals".
  • Lady of War: Her gracefullness and professionalism in the underworld is only matched by her mastery in weapons.
  • Matter Replicator: Her Quirk (which she and everyone sees as her Semblance) enables her to create objects so long as she knows the atomic structure of said object. She uses this to great effect combined with her hand-to-hand combat skills to create swords, staffs, guns, etc.
  • Not So Above It All: Momo presents herself as a professional and ruthless mob boss to her allies and enemies alike, but when Tenko gives her a birthday present in the form of a book she always wanted to read she tackles him to the ground while gushing how he's the best brother ever, showing that deep down that Momo's Earth self is still present.
  • Pet the Dog: Just when Tenko is about to kill Ash, Momo stops him and after confirming that Ash was the one to come up with the combat strategy for their training simulation, decides to make the leader for their next task with Ash planning on not letting her down.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Despite being a ruthless mob boss, Momo does well to preserve the lives of her men as losing numbers means losing resources. As a result, she doesn't kill them even if they annoy her like her brother does.
  • The Queenpin: She's one of the top enforcers of the Spider Syndicate and is capable of commanding respect through her deadly and ruthless skills.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: She wears black combat shorts, black combat boots, and a red short-sleeved shirt that reveals her midriff and cleavage, and is a deadly enforcer of the Spiders who will kill anyone if it helps achieve her goals.
  • Siblings in Crime: She and Tenko are fraternal twins and are also one of the top enforcers of the Spider Syndicate.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: The Yang sibling to Tenko's Ying sibling. Fitting, as she has a Quirk that lets her create anything she wants while her brother destroys whatever he touches.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: She's an elegant and beautiful woman...who is also a master tactician capable of killing people with any weapon she creates.

     Tenko Malachite
Tomura Shigaraki is the leader of the notorious League of Villains on Earth. He has been reincarnated as Momo's fraternal twin and a top enforcer of the Spider Syndicate.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: On Earth, he and Momo are enemies due to being on opposing sides. On Remnant, they are fraternal siblings who care for one another.
  • Berserk Button: Attacking his sister is a sure fire way to make him want to kill you.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Despite his callousness towards others, Tenko loves her sister unconditionally as he bought her a birthday present before her birthday even came.
  • Fantastic Racism: He looks down on the Faunus and refers to them as "mutts".
  • Kick the Dog: When Ash was lying down on the ground in pain, Tenko made the gesture to help him back up. Ash would've been killed if Momo hadn't stopped her brother.
  • Siblings in Crime: He and Momo are fraternal twins and are also one of the top enforcers of the Spider Syndicate.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: The Ying sibling to Momo's Yang sibling. Fitting, as he has a Quirk that lets destroy anything he touches while her Quirk lets her create any object.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When Ruby asks him online what should she do regarding her friend's situation, Tenko tells her to simply confront him about it. Which she did.
  • Touch of Death: His Quirk lets him turn anything or anyone he touches into dust.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's hard to talk about him without mentioning some of the crucial moments of the story.

Remnant

     Ozpin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xiippq66.jpg
He was once a great warrior known as Ozma. In the present, he's the Headmaster of Beacon Academy and helps Izuku in his quest of finding his reincarnated friends.
  • All for Nothing: Ozpin has done everything in his power to make sure that the secret of Salem's Complete Immortality in fear that his allies will betray him out of fear. All of that effort went down the drain when Izuku revealed to Glynda that Salem is unkillable believing that the teacher already knew.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Salem.
  • Big Good: He's the one thing standing between Remnant and it's destruction by Salem's hands. Throughout his many lives, Ozpin has made sure to protect the Relics and kept the Awful Truth of Salem's immortality from even his close associates so that they don't lose hope.
  • Oh, Crap!: Ozpin has this reaction when finds out the newest length Salem just crossed.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He has been reincarnating for a millennia in his war against Salem and her forces.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While initially wary of Izuku due to him knowing of his past identity as Ozma, he later helps the young hero in his quest of finding his reincarnated friends after listening to Izuku's side of the story.
  • Secret-Keeper: He's the only one who knows about Izuku's true origins and the nature of his mission.

     Glynda Goodwitch
A teacher and Huntress of Beacon Academy and a member of Ozpin's inner circle.
  • All for Nothing: After learning from Izuku that Salem's unkillable, Glynda begins to wonder if all the sacrifices and questionable acts she committed in the name of justice are this and that she's only training her students to die in a losing battle.
  • Armour-Piercing Question: After learning from Izuku about Salem's Complete Immortality, Glynda prods Ozpin whether he really has a plan to actually defeat her to which the veteran nearly gasped before claiming he does but it's implied that Glynda knows he's lying.
  • Mind over Matter: Her Semblance allows her to lift a large number of objects and put them back together to the point that she can effectively rewind the clock on damage, restoring broken things back to their pre-broken state.
  • Not So Stoic: After finding out that Salem is immortal, Glynda has some trouble keeping her usual stoic demeanor.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Due to her stoic demeanor, this is her default expression.

  • Deadpan Snarker: She's known for giving off quite a few snarky remarks.

     Jaune Arc

     Pyrrha Nikos

Salem's Faction

     Salem
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b18562f4b8c823e01a6bb6377c352ea0.jpg
Salem is the witch who has walked Remnant for a millennia. After trying to summon a minion to turn the tides of her war against Ozpin in her favour, she ends of summoning more than one individual from Earth and now seeks to capture them as a means to defeat her former lover.
  • Big Bad: Not only is she the main antagonist of RWBY, but her actions of taking Izuku's classmates are what kickstarted the plot in motion.
  • Complete Immortality: For tricking them, the Brother Gods cursed Salem with immortality, preventing her from reuniting with her beloved Ozma. This is what makes her such a dangerous threat as she can't be killed through any conventional means.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Salem casted a spell in hopes of summoning someone that she can mold into her minion to turn the tides of her war against Ozpin in her favor. However, the spell was too powerful even for her and would've killed her if it weren't for her immortality. As a result, she summoned more people than she planned to which means more variables she now needs to take into account.
  • The Ghost: Despite being the Big Bad of the story, Salem hasn't made an appearance yet and has only been mentioned mostly from Izuku and Ozpin's conversations.
