Lep in the hood comes to do no good!

Leprechaun in the 2018 reboot

The titular character. A deranged leprechaun obsessed with collecting his gold and exacting revenge on any human that tries to take it from him.note  Warwick Davis portrayed Lubdan for the first 6 movies, Linden Porco takes over in Returns.

  • Affably Evil: While he's mostly Faux Affably Evil, as stated below, he does have a select few moments of genuine affability. In the first film, he offered to shine Ozzie's shoes. In the third, he briefly developed an Odd Friendship with an Elvis Impersonator. In the sixth, he impatiently but politely waited for someone to finish their cellphone call before speaking with them. He has also been known to sometimes spare humans if they return his gold. He usually won't kill if he's not provoked. That being said, he does have his share of Kick the Dog moments, perhaps Depending on the Writer.
  • Alien Blood: He bleeds green.
  • All There in the Manual: His name is never spoken in the films, but was given in the comic book series based on the films.
  • Ax-Crazy: Watch out for the sharp fingernails and teeth, he bites and scratches. That said, an axe was one of many weapons he'd use in addition to that and his magic.
  • Berserk Button: Whenever a human steals his gold or makes fun of him (which tends to happen a lot).
  • Big Bad: Lubdan, a sadistic leprechaun seeking his gold.
  • Butt-Monkey: Although he himself has inflicted multiple murders and injuries, he also gets shot at, punched, burnt, kicked by humans but because 95% of the time with potential survivors it was out of self-defense, he should've seen it coming and it's hard to feel much sympathy for him.
  • Catchphrase: "I want me gold!" and "I'm a Leprechaun!"
  • Control Freak: While he's only concerned about his gold in most movies, Leprechaun 4: In Space has him express interest in hegemony.
  • Cop Killer: Kills many cops throughout the movies, the first of which was a cop that pulled him over for driving a toy car unfit for use on freeways then starts insulting him.
  • Depraved Dwarf: As expect from a Leprechaun who is also a Spree Killer.
  • Determinator: He will do anything to keep his 100 golden coins to himself in spite of all the trouble he has to go through to retrieve it from the many humans who have stolen one or more coins. Particularly in Back 2 Tha Hood, when one of his gold coins got melted down into a substitute tooth he ripped out the person's jaw.
  • Does Not Like Spam: He spots a box of cereal called Lucky Clover with an image of a leprechaun on it (you can tell what kind of cereal this is a parody of). He tries some, only to spit it back out.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: In the second film, he becomes mad when his favorite ore is broken, as it was a gift from his father. In the sixth film, he gets mad when a cop insults his mother.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Almost never will you find anyone actually addressing him as "Lubdan."
  • Evil Laugh: He frequently laughs after killing someone.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He might be friendly and cheerful at first, but it's mostly a mask to hide his homicidal nature.
  • Greed: The main motif for his violent behavior and homicidal tendencies is when people steal his gold.
  • Humans Are Bastards: He views humans as inherently greedy and self-absorbed, which is certainly justified by most of the people he meets, and thus feels no compunction about stealing from or killing them. Though he's hardly one to criticize anyone else for these faults.
  • Immune to Bullets: He's immune to almost anything in terms of it staying as a mortal wound. Gunfire doesn't kill him, it can only propel him away for 1 to 2 feet from original position. Though carrying a gun is a better decision than not because at least then it can buy you some time to run away from Lubdan. Across the board, if 'mortally' wounded, he will stay still and then twitch as his body apparently repairs itself.
  • It's All About Me: It seems to some like he cares only about himself, though he has generally left others alone if they did not insult him or steal his gold and even then, he has sometimes just asked for it back. This trope is quite apparent when in the fourth film, he is not up to the idea of sharing his wealth with the alien princess; the only humans he's ever shown to gotten along with were an Elvis Impersonator and a stoner who offered him the chance to smoke weed out of a water bong, and in the latter case, their friendship only lasted for 62 seconds before Lubdan found out the stoner secretly had one of his golden coins.
  • Jerkass: Outside of any moments of affability (whether real or fake), as he’s not only a murderer, but a petty and prickly little bastard.
  • Kick the Dog: In the fifth film, he horribly kills a transvestite while having sex with them for seemingly no reason, and he later starts having his Zombie Fly Girls bring him victims to kill for fun. This was jarringly out of character, as he usually does not kill without reason. Though, you might imagine that his less provoked attacks are from people stealing his riches on a fair basis, so you could wager it as his distrust.
  • Laughably Evil: He quips constantly, and he often kills people in humorously ironic ways such as a pogo-stick or blowing up a woman's breasts and buttocks until they explode.
  • Mars Needs Women: Leprechaun 2 is about him capturing a human woman as his new bride. And Leprechaun 4 In Space seems to have him attracted to an alien princess who looks very human.
  • One-Man Army: He does not get any sort of ally aside from a skeleton he enslaved in the second movie.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He has very powerful offense but weak defense, as he usually can't deflect or avoid attack moves from humans such as punches and Improvised Weapons. It only takes one punch to get him swung at least a few feet away from you, but he can quickly recover from that.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: It'd be easier to make a drinking game out of it.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He gets violent and will go on a killing spree whenever he doesn't get what he wants - most of the time it's his gold. Other times though he kills for even pettier reasons like being made fun of for his short height or if he feels his mother was insulted.
  • Reality Warper: He can grant wishes and has demonstrated a diverse array of magical powers such as telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation and mimicking voices of humans or animals. The more gold he collects, the stronger his magical powers are.
  • The Remnant: If you believe him to be the same Leprechaun in all the films, he is the last of an army of leprechauns that once defended the gold of the king in the middle ages. While his brothers went back to nature when the king died, their oath fulfilled, he kept the gold and did not. Of course, this is from the intro of"Back 2 Da Hood", so the source is a little muddy.
  • Resurrective Immortality: It's impossible to permanently kill Lubdan from what's been seen. Even if his body is blown to pieces, or ejected into the void of space, he'll eventually regenerate.
  • Sadist: He loves killing and inflicting pain, once (often) provoked.
  • The Sociopath: He's a homicidal maniac who enjoys killing.
  • Spree Killer: Kills large swathes of people whenever he’s resurrected.
  • Villain Has a Point: He is right to want his gold back, considering it is rightfully his, not that this justifies his sadistic and murderous methods of getting it back.
  • Voice Changeling: He is perfectly capable of mimicking other voices, such as a sheriff he killed in the first film.
  • Would Hurt a Child: In the first film, he tried or at least threatened to decapitate Alex with a beartrap for being among those who stole his gold.

     Humans

Ozzie

The Fat Idiot who accidentally freed Lubdan trapped inside a box by Dan O'Grady to barricade him from the outside world, played by Mark Holton.
  • The Bus Came Back: He returned in Leprechaun Returns, just to get killed minutes later by Lubdan who emerges right out of his intestines.
  • Fat Best Friend: To Tory Redding.
  • Friendly Zombie: Turns into a zombie ghost after Lubdan kills him off in Returns.
  • Living MacGuffin: After he swallows a golden coin. 25 years later, Lubdan retrieves it in the Sy Fy reboot Returns.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In the 1993 movie, he was the one who freed Lubdan. In the 2018 movie, he helped Lubdan escape the well by absorbing the water that contained Lubdan's essence.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: He's the reason why the Leprechaun terrorizes Tori and her friends considering that he knocks the four-leaf clover off of the crate which frees him out of the crate and he also finds the bag of gold coins and even consumes one of the coins which results in the Leprechaun nearly killing him at the end.

Tory Redding

The protagonist of the first film, played by Jennifer Aniston.

Lila Redding

The protagonist of Leprechaun Returns, the daughter of Tory. Played by Taylor Spreitler.

     The Monster (Origins)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/not_lubdan.png
The "titular" antagonist of Leprechaun: Origins.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: What it ultimately is. It has no voice, no character and no motivation, it’s just a wild animal.
  • Killed Off for Real: Due to Origins being a Stillborn Franchise, this... "thing" is never coming back.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: It seemingly resembles a cross between a chimpanzee and a Roswell Gray alien.
  • Off with His Head!: How it was killed.
  • The Speechless: Doesn't seem capable of speech, and furthermore, it doesn't seem to have the intelligence of anything more than an animal.
  • You Don't Look Like You: It looks and behaves absolutely nothing like a leprechaun, even though the word leprechaun is in the film's title. It's definitely not Lubdan, that's for sure. Many audiences and fans of the original movies abhorred this creature.
