The Cadre were a group of supervillains whose powers were bestowed by the cosmic alien Overmaster to assist him in his efforts to test humanity's fitness to inhabit Earth. The Cadre opposed the Justice League on many different occasions and in various incarnations. Several members have died, only to be replaced by newly empowered recruits.

A second version of the Cadre was called the Cadre of the Immortal. This version was made up of international metahumans deluded by an agent of the Overmaster that claimed to be Prester John, the Immortal. Prester John announced his intention to destroy the Earth in one week, erasing Central City from the planet and stopping all deaths and births across the globe as proof of his power.

Overmaster's second version of the Cadre used mostly existing metahumans from the villainous groups the Extremists and the Aryan Brigade, rather than empowering new agents. He also mind controlled JLA member Ice into joining the team.

A fourth version of the Cadre was created by Dr. Polaris and used to attack the Power Company.

    Overmaster

Overmaster

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/overmaster_01.jpg

Overmaster is an alien entity, a self styled like a celestial force beyond good and evil, which acted as a heavenly judge. After judging a world unworthy, he collected specimens of the species on the planet, then destroyed all life on the planet.—-

  • Alternate Company Equivalent: Overmaster is obviously inspired by Marvel's Galactus, a fellow celestial entity that frequently used the survivors of his rampages as servants.
  • The Dreaded: Darkseid has stated that the Overmaster could destroy all life and was roughly his equal in power. Darkseid added that he kept himself ready for the day when the Overmaster would come and try to judge Apokolips.
  • Hand Blast: Can project energy beams from his hands.
  • Mind Manipulation
  • Orcus on His Throne: Prefers to remain on his spaceship and send the Cadre to do his dirty work.
  • Phlebotinum Killed the Dinosaurs: Overmaster claims to have been responsible for several mass extinctions in Earth's past: including the K-T mass extinction event that wiped out the dinosaurs.
  • Planet Destroyer: Destroys all life on planets he judges to be unworthy.

She was later seen resurrected as a member of the Black Lantern Corps.

  • The Evil Prince: Sought to overthrow his father and usurp the rule of their homeland.
  • An Ice Person: Like his sister, Ewald has ice control powers. He can, at will, project in various forms quantities of ice and snow through her hands just enough to down an opponent.     Backlash

Backlash

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/backlash_dc_comics_aryan_cadre_h2.jpg

Thus far, very little has been revealed regarding the background of the man called Backlash. He is a Caucasian man that was apparently born somewhere within the American Midwest, and he is known to have strong sympathy with the Nazi viewpoint towards minorities and other non-Aryans. Originally a member Aryan Brigade, he was recruited into the second iteration of the Overmaster's Cadre.

  • See the Invisible: Blind Faith can act like a psychic bloodhound or detect invisible opponents.
  • Super-Hearing: Has an augmented sense of hearing, though this may be a side effect of blindness rather than a power.
  • Telepathy: Can read minds, even on unwilling people.

    Brute

Brute

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brute_6.jpg

Resembling a large hairless gorilla, but with a more feral facial structure, it is unclear what sort of being Brute might be. He was a member of the New Extremists and exhibited no signs of intelligence whatsoever. He later joined the Overmaster and his Cadre.

  • The Brute: Lives down to his name.
  • Dumb Muscle: Exhibits no signs of intelligence and mindlessly follows orders.

  • Animal-Themed Superbeing: Eagles, complete with artificial wings for flight.
  • Flight: His winged harnesses allows for fast, silent flight.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: A cruel, racist thug. He actually seems pretty decent and caring toward “the right people” (i.e., White folks approving of his political beliefs). But this also means an increased hostility toward “race traitors” (i.e., White folks working against his political beliefs).
  • Razor Wings: His wings have slashing edges.
  • Wolverine Claws: His clawed gauntlets have slashing edges.

    Meanstreak

Meanstreak

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meanstreak_min.jpg

Meanstreak was a member of the New Extremists and the Overmaster's Cadre. Meanstreak certainly lived up to her name, reveling in chaos, suffering and destruction in any form.

  • Ambiguously Human: Meanstreak's origins are unknown, but she was reluctant to fight Maxima and called her her sister. This is the main clue that they might share an Almerican background, making her a Human Alien.
  • Combat Stilettos: Fights in stiletto heeled thigh boots.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Has a wicked-looking crescent-shaped scar over her right eye.
  • Hellbent For Leather: Her costume appears to made of studded black leather.

  • Stripperific: Wore the skimpiest costume of any of the Extremists or the Cadre (except for possibly Crowbar).
  • Super-Toughness: She was durable enough to take blows from Maxima.
