Main characters

    Eripiyo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ey.jpg
Voiced by: Fairouz Ai (JP), Megan Shipman (EN)
The protagonist of the series. She is wildly enthusiastic about and is an extreme idol fan of Maina, the lowest-ranking member of the minor underground idol group ChamJam that performs in Okayama Prefecture.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Not just that, but she's been practicing for the moment she'll have to resort to such an action.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Although she doesn't openly state to be romantically interested in her oshi, her obsession with Maina does indicate that there may be more to it.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Is blonde, The Hero of this story, and her most greatest trait is the boundless love she has for Maina.
  • Hidden Depths: Pays for much of her ChamJam (specifically Maina) products by taking on a lot of side jobs. Given that she gets no complaints as she does them and is even admired for how good of an employee she is, its safe to say Eripiyo is able to adapt and excel in any job position she finds herself in. One would get the impression that if it wasn't for her obsession with Maina, Eripiyo would truly make something exceptional out of herself.
  • Jack of All Trades: To pay for the massive amounts Maina merchandise she buys on the regular, Eri tends to work a variety of numerous odd side-jobs in addition to her main one at the factory. This tends to leave her exhausted when she takes on too many back-to-back.
  • Large Ham: The biggest example in this series. There is no episode of the show where you won't find her shouting at the top of her lungs and just generally acting like the most over-the-top human being you'll ever meet in your lifetime.
    • Deconstructed in one episode where she ends up tearing her throat multiple times due to shouting so much.
  • Motor Mouth: Talks really fast when her fan side completely takes over. It even shows through a whiteboard she uses in an episode!
  • Nosebleed: The very first episode of the series has her losing so much blood that she goes unconscious!
  • One of the Boys: Perfectly fits in with the legion of fanboys of ChamJam despite being female.
  • One True Love: When watching the other idol groups preforming at an idol festival, Eripiyo notes that she could only think of Maina the whole time and confirms to herself that she's the only one for her.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Eripiyo" is the only name she's known by among her otaku friends. Her mother and her friend Miyu use her real name, Eri. Her nickname is based on Maina's signature containing a simple drawing of a baby chick. "Piyo" is the chirping of a baby chick in Japanese.
  • Red Is Heroic: The Iconic Outfit she wears almost everywhere from her high school years is a red track suit.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Is rarely seen without her hair tied into a ponytail.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Is more often than not just as masculine as any of the boys she surrounds herself with, but still retains a feminine touch and taste in certain areas.
  • Undying Loyalty: Is has been made abundantly clear that Eripiyo is completely devoted to Maina no matter what.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Kumasa. No matter how frequent and fierce their arguments over idols are, it is clear that the two of them are best friends.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: An Inverted Trope in regards to the dynamic between Eripiyo and Sakiko. From what little we've seen of her, Sakiko lacks any of the goofy, over-the-top, or even downright delusional mannerisms and habits of her daughter displays through the story.

    Kumasa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kusuma.jpg
Voiced by: Tomoaki Maeno (JP), Jim Foronda (EN)
Eripiyo's closest friend and is the one to bring her into the world of idol culture. He's an Reo stan even from before ChamJam formed.
  • Big Fun: Is the most big boned character in the show and is a pleasant person to have around whether as a fan or a friend.
  • Foil: Can be just as obsessed about Reo as Eripiyo is about Maina. Kumasa is still able to act much more level-headed and reasonable while Eripiyo can be downright delusional at times when it comes her fanfare.
  • The Mentor: Is the one to properly induct and guide Eri in the world of idol singers.
  • Nice Guy: Is friendly, polite, and an overall great guy to be around even with his obsession with Reo.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His real name has not been revealed, but it's not Kumasa. He chose the nickname because he likes bears (kuma), but whether he was influenced by Reo's love of bears or the other way around is something not even he seems to know.
  • Opaque Nerd Glasses: The audience never sees what his eyes look like through his Nerd Glasses. A quick glace in Episode 11 reveals them to be a light brown.
  • Undying Loyalty: Is an Reo fan through and through, no matter what. Even in her previous group, when she was the least popular idol and and no wotas who stood in line for her, Kumasa promised to do his best to make her number one and to have faith in him. Reo couldn't help but cry happily at such devotion being given to her.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Eripiyo. No matter how frequent and fierce their arguments over idols are, it is clear that the two of them are best friends.

    Motoi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mot.jpg
Voiced by: Yoshitaka Yamaya (JP), Stephen Fu (EN)
A relative newcomer to the idol scene and a Reo stan.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Downplayed but still gets quite distressed at the thought of Sorane having a boyfriend.
  • Crush Blush: Constantly gets this when around Sorane.
  • Eyes Always Shut: The viewer never sees what's under those eyelids.
  • Foil: Is very shy around his favorite idol despite being grounded in reality whereas the over-the-top Eripiyo is much honest about her feelings towards hers.
    • Motoi’s love for Sorane goes well past what is deemed “appropriate” for an idol fan. Compare his fantasies to Kumasa’s and Eripiyo’s usual behavior. Motoi daydreams about Sorane being an actual romantic partner, while the other two openly acknowledge that they’re only their fans.
  • Only Sane Man: Is definitely the most grounded a an idol fan than Eri or Kumasa.

    Reina
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rena_21.jpg
Voiced by: Kana Ichinose (JP)
The younger sister of Motoi and the only other Maina fan.

ChamJam

    Maina Ichii
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maine.jpg
Voiced by: Hina Tachibana (JP), Bryn Apprill (EN)
The shy and lowest-ranking member of the minor underground idol group ChamJam that performs in Okayama Prefecture
  • Born Unlucky: Bad things seem to keep happening to Maina, like ChamJam's usual theater being closed for repairs for her birth month in particular but no one else's.
  • Character Development: Learns to be more open to Eri as time goes on.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Really cannot stand the thought or even the idea of her greatest fan going to another member of ChamJam, or any other idol for that matter period.
  • Deuteragonist: Is the second most followed character of the story and is the most focused member of the idol group the plot revolves around.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: As the lowest ranking member of ChamJam, her self-esteem isn't the greatest, frequently and gloomy commenting on her lack of importance to the group. It's to the point that Maina has a great fear of Eripiyo leaving her to become a stan of another member.
  • Maid Cafe: Joins Aya in working at one.
  • Meaningful Name: Considering her lack of popularity, it's probably not a coincidence that her name is a homophone for "minor" (マイナー).
  • Pink Means Feminine: Salmon pink, thank you very much!
  • Shrinking Violet: Is easily the most reserved and introvert member of ChamJam. This tends to cause problems with her relationship with Eripiyo since her being unable to properly express her feelings towards her biggest fan leads to misunderstandings between them.
  • The Un Favourite: Is In-Universe regularly the least popular idol singer member of ChamJam.

    Reo Igarashi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reo.jpg
Voiced by: Kaede Hondo (JP), Dawn M. Bennett (EN)
The leading idol and most popular member of ChamJam.
  • A Mother to Her Men: Is very encouraging to the other members ChamJam and is attentive to any issues they might be having.
  • The Face: As the oldest, most experienced, and most popular member of ChamJam, Reo tends to represent the group as a whole in ventures outside of concerts.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Has long ones that reach her elbows, which shows her experience as an idol singer.
  • Goal in Life: While this is all of ChamJam's shared goal, Reo is the most determined to preform at Budokan.
  • Humble Heroine: Despite being the most popular idol singer of ChamJam, Reo remains quite modest and supportive towards her fans and fellow members of ChamJam.
  • The Leader. Of ChamJam. Is a Type II with shades of Type IV; she is the most experienced idol singer of the group, which gives her the ability to calmly and reasonably get a handle on any situation at hand and is consistently the most popular idol of the group with the most devoted fans thanks to her charming and sweet demeanor.
  • Mirror Character: Reo was pretty much in the same position Maina is currently in when she was in her previous idol group: the least popular idol member with just a single but extremely devoted fan.
  • Nice Gal: Is a total sweetheart who very much cares and appreciates her fellow idols and fans.
  • Older Than She Looks: Currently the only adult member of Chamjam (as the time of the anime), while having an appearance seemingly younger than Maki's.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Got overly excited during the sports festival the previous year and somehow broke both her legs. Neither the fans nor her fellow idols will ever let her live it down.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Is her main idol color that she is associated with.
  • Stage Name: Reo Igarashi is not her real name. For reasons unknown even to her fellow idols, she adamantly refuses to reveal her real name or even talk about herself.
  • The Rival: Views Mei, the leader of Maple Doll, as this due to her being the center of the previous idol group they were both apart of. Rei is clearly disheartened when Mei brings up some other idol as her biggest rival on TV.
  • Tears of Joy: Was SO touched by Kumasa's declaration of devotion to her during her time as the least popular member of her previous idol group, that Reo couldn't help but cry in pure happiness at such loyalty.
    • Happens once again in episode 12, when ChamJam show their undying support and love to her after a rough encounter with the leader of her previous idol group.

    Sorane Matsuyama

Voiced by: Ikumi Hasegawa (JP), Morgan Berry (EN)
A high school student who is part of the tennis club.

    Maki Hakata
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maki_2.jpg
Voiced by: Maya Enoyoshi (JP), Giovannie Cruz (EN)
The third member to join ChamJam. Is best friends with Yumeri.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Downplayed. Maki is clearly the most mature and coolheaded member of ChamJam but does eagerly take part of their activities with much enthusiasm.
  • Ambiguously Gay: There's is a whole lot of romantic subtext between her and Yumeri.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Is the tallest member of ChamJam and is the only one than comes across as outwardly sexy rather than cute.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Has purple eyes but her assigned idol clothing is yellow.

    Yumeri Mizumori
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yum_0.jpg
Voiced by: Kaori Ishihara (JP), Natalie Hoover (EN)
The rising star of ChamJam. She is best friends with Maki
  • Ambiguously Gay: Gets A LOT of tender and cuddly moments with Maki.
  • City Mouse: Subverted. Was born and raised in Tokyo, but moved to Okayama some time ago and seems to have adjusted well by all accounts.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Plays this much straighter than Eripiyo due to being much more sweet, polite, and demure.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Yumeri is constantly worried about being more popular than Maki due to preferring her in the front than herself.
  • Stage Name: Yumeri chose to go with a stage name because she felt embarrassed to have her former acquaintances and friends know that she's an idol. Her real name is Yume Kuga.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Has yellow eyes but her assigned idol clothing is purple.

    Yūka Teramoto
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuka_5.jpg
Voiced by: Misaki Watada (JP), Lindsay Seidel (EN)
The youngest member of ChamJam.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Her bio states that she is sixteen, making her the youngest member of ChamJam.
  • Book Dumb: Falls asleep while Sorane's helping tutor her.
  • Brutal Honesty: Has a habit of saying what's on her mind unfiltered regardless of where she's at.
  • Foil: Yuka's energetic and exuberant personality very much contrasts Maina's shy and reserved nature.
  • The Gambling Addict: Is quite fond of playing gacha games on her cellphone.
  • Genki Girl: Is without a doubt the most cheerful and excitable member of ChamJam.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Cheerfully calls herself stupid in front of a fan to encourage him to come to her repeatedly so she can remember his face.
  • No Social Skills: Is very poor at reading the social atmosphere of the room she's in.

    Aya Yokota
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aya_21.jpg
Voiced by: Manami Itō (JP), Dani Chambers (EN)
The most ambitious member of the central idol group.
  • Butt-Monkey: Aya frequently finds herself to be the butt of the jokes when it comes ChamJam. The fact that she's so vocally resentful of her fellow ChamJam members. Probably best illustrated when she blatantly tries to change her persona, first as The Tease and then going overboard with her original The Ingenue shtick, only to weird out her fans.
  • Foil: To Maina as they are the two lowest ranking members of ChamJam. Despite both being in the very bottom, Aya's competitive and aggressive personality traits greatly differs from Maina's passive and withdrawn nature.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Is the only member to have these, which helps highlights her status as the "younger sister" of the group.
  • Green and Mean: Heavily downplayed as Aya is most definitely not a villain, but still remains the most hostile and confrontational member of the idol group. Also, her assigned color is green.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Matching her signature color, Aya has a habit of voicing her jealousy of the fact that she does not place in the top three.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: As rude and aggressive she can act towards others, Aya can be quite mindful and sensitive to the feelings of others.
  • Maid Cafe: Works at one as a side-job.
  • The Napoleon: Is the shortest member of the group and has quite the Inferiority Superiority Complex.
  • Tsundere: Type A. Aya likes and cares about her fellow idol members far more than she's willing to admit.
