Main Characters

    Tropes regarding both
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: Definitely, with Brush as the Big Guy and Pearl as the Little Guy. Brush is the less intelligent of the two (albeit by a bit) and Pearl tends to take charge when the situation calls for it.
  • Brains and Brawn: Pearl is the Brains while Brush is the Brawn of their dynamic.
  • The Ditz: Both of them are to varying degrees such that neither is smarter or dumber than the other. Brush might be Book Dumb and sometimes don't understand metaphors but his no-nonsense, risk-taking attitude makes up for it and while Pearl reads up on oddly specific survival guides and makes most of the decisions, he can't survive the jungle without Brush due to lacking common sense and guts.
  • Only Sane Man: Despite their quirks, the pair are this to the even quirkier cast of Fight or Fall since they are the only ones questioning why are they in a game show when all of them should be trying to find the way out of the pit where it takes place in.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Pearl is the comical, overly cautious Red Oni to Brush's dry-wit, tough-as-nails Blue Oni. However, the way they tackle the jungle is quite the inverse with Brush going primarily on gut instinct whereas Pearl overanalyzes every little detail and consults his books before carrying out anything.
  • Straight Gay: Both of them are gay according to HandsPlasticX but aside from Pearl casually mentioning wanting a husband, neither has shown any stereotypical camp traits. Even their dynamic is strictly Vitriolic Best Buds since despite their matching sexual orientation, their contrasting personalities mean the two will never work out as a functioning romantic couple and they know it.
  • Technician Versus Performer: In terms of their approach to surviving the jungle, Pearl is the Technician whereas Brush is the Performer.

    Brush

Voiced By: HandsPlasticX
Gender: Male (He/They)
A bristle brush
  • Book Dumb: Judging by his conversation with Pearl at the beginning of "Shimmering Spotlight", Brush doesn't like reading or is maybe even illiterate. This is backed up by his unfamiliarity with metaphors.
Pearl: [When talking about his bridge-crossing guide] I would know, I read it last year.
Brush: I've been waiting for the movie.
Pearl: That would explain it.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Charges headfirst into danger but this attitude proves to be vital since Pearl is deadly afraid of taking the smallest of risks and thus hindering their chances of escaping.
  • Literal-Minded: A side effect of being Book Dumb.
Pearl: Okay, it looks like everyone on this show [Fight or Fall] is nuts apparently?
Brush: [Looks around] I don't see any nuts though.

    Pearl

Voiced By: Hicc
Gender: Male (He/Him)
A freshwater pearl
  • All Just a Dream: Him and Brush falling through the crevasse underneath the bridge, joining Fight or Fall against their will and winning the game never happened because Pearl fainted before he even stepped on the bridge. He did learn a valuable lesson from it but...
  • Broken Aesop: His fear of crossing a wooden bridge with a small chance of it breaking leads to an entire dream sequence (see above) where dream Brush tells him to think outside the box and take risks. After waking up, Pearl was about to tell Brush what he learn when the latter interrupted by pointing out a sturdier, much safer stone bridge next to the wooden one, rendering the dream pointless.
Pearl: Oh what? What lesson am I supposed to gain from that?
Brush: That you need glasses?
  • Specific Situation Books: Because of his personality, he's well-read on obscure subjects like "The Beginner's Guide to Crossing Bridges When You're Lost In A Jungle" and "The Encyclopedia Guide To Painting In Short Time Frames" in addition to keeping hardback copies in his inventory.

Others

    The Fight or Fall Cast

In General

  • Armless Biped: Baguette and Glockenspiel are the first examples of the series.
  • Blue Oni, Red Oni: The contestants, like Brush and Pearl, all have this dynamic with their pairs.
    • Glockenspiel is in a constant state of exhaustion and exasperation (as highlighted by aer Exhausted Eye Bags) in contrast to the lively Joystick.
    • Bowl's calm and rational nature clashes with the pompous, Jerkass attitude of Cologne.
    • Baguette takes on an easy-going but passive role in the competition due to getting completely sidetracked by their endless stories. Leek, on the other hand, picks up the slack as the determined athlete he is to win Fight or Fall no matter the cost.
  • Cast Full of Crazy:
Pearl: Okay, looks like everybody on this show is nuts, apparently?
  • Competition Freak: Apart from Baguette, every single contestant is unhealthily competitive. It could be justified as the losing contestants will be sent to the Pit of No Return but judging their treatment of the competition, they're way more obsessed with winning than anything.
Leek: Heh, you're just scared you're gonna lose, losers!
Joystick: Keep weeping, noobs!
Cologne: YOU SUCK!!!
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: An almost equal lineup of two females (Crown and Bowl), two males (Cologne and Joystick, excluding Brush and Pearl), two non-binaries (Baguette and Leek) and one agender (Glockenspiel)
  • Genre Refugee: Their whole existence makes zero sense in the series since they fit perfectly in a traditional but generic object show, complete with a sadistic, reality-warping Game Show Host and an All-Stereotype Cast, but are absolutely unsuited for the jungle setting the show takes place. This is emphasized when they appeared entirely out of left field at the bottom of a ravine with Pearl and Brush wondering what the heck is going on.
  • Irony: The contestants were so determined to win Fight or Fall that they obsessed and trained all their lives for this moment. And yet they all lost to Pearl and Brush who want nothing to with this wackadoo gameshow.
  • Willfully Weak: Because they are deadset on following the competition rules, none of them consider thinking beyond this mindset like escaping because it's a death game or finding another creative way to complete challenges despite wanting to win so badly. This is best exemplified when Leek, Bowl and Cologne struggle for hours filling their water buckets with eyedroppers whereas Brush finishes the task in seconds since he proved they don't necessarily need to use one.

Crown

Voiced By: VivianCherry
Gender: Female (She/Her)
A gold five-pointed crown whose sadism is as insatiable as her egomania so that's why she's the perfect candidate for the host on Fight or Fall.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: The second challenge was a water bucket filling challenge but she made it slightly difficult by making the contestants use eye droppers after Pearl's remark. However, she initially wanted to use the eye droppers anyway only with her face on it but that didn't stop the contestants from thinking Pearl give them a disadvantage.
  • Fangs Are Evil: Sports a prominent snaggletooth to accentuate her position as the tyrannical and homicidal Game Show Host.

Leek and Baguette

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/handsplasticx_epic_jungle_show_shimmering_spotlight_0_vih19wyxo_853x480_2m42s.png
Voiced By: C00kiecache (Both)
Gender: Non-Binary (Both, He/Theynote  and They/Themnote )
A two-striped leek and a baguette loaf.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: Both are sentient and edible with their names being self-explanatory.
  • Determinator: Leek spends over two hours filling a water bucket with an eye-dropper even though Brush proved the droppers are optional at the start of the challenge.
  • Genre Savvy: When it's time for the final round, Leek volunteers his partner knowing fully well it's a physical challenge (something he's really good at) and Crown always pick the ones who weren't chosen to go instead. However, this didn't stop Pearl and Brush from winning.
  • The Load: Baguette does nothing but talk endlessly on pointless subjects so Leek has to complete challenges on his own.
  • Non-Human Non-Binary: They are sentient objects who identify themselves as such.

Cologne and Bowl

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/handsplasticx_epic_jungle_show_shimmering_spotlight_0_vih19wyxo_853x480_2m41s.png
Voiced By: PillowPepper (Cologne) and Hexagon (Bowl)
Gender: Male (Cologne, He/Him) and Female (Bowl, She/Her)
A glass cologne bottle filled with purple fragrance and a porcelain bowl.
Cologne: How am I supposed to do this?
Bowl: Don't look at me, I don't have any arms!
Cologne: Well buy some then!
  • Literally Shattered Lives: Bowl was initially spared from the Pit of No Return because she couldn't fit through the trapdoor before Crown stomped her into a million shards. That's your fate when you're entirely made of porcelain.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female contestant in Fight or Fall is Bowl while the rest identify as male, non-binary or agender.
  • Sore Loser: Though Bowl wanted to go with their dignities intact, Cologne immediately objects to their elimination rather distastefully.
Cologne: Crown, Hear this now! I'm gonna get my lawyer on— [trapdoor opens] yoooou!!!

Joystick and Glockenspiel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/handsplasticx_epic_jungle_show_shimmering_spotlight_0_vih19wyxo_900x506_2m39s.png
Voiced By: HandsPlasticX (Joystick) and Hicc (Glockenspiel)
Gender: Male (Joystick, He/Him) and Agender (Glockenspiel, He/Ae)
A handheld joystick console and a glockenspiel.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: Glockenspiel has noticeable ones which make him look perpetually fed-up as he is tired.
  • Monochromatic Eyes: Joystick has white eyes and mouth assets because regular ones don't jive well with his black body.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: They were the first eliminated because Brush knocked them out and couldn't properly complete the drawing challenge.
