     The Phantom Thieves of Hearts

Amamiya Ren | Kurusu Akira | Joker

Arcana: Fool, World

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Ren goes through worse in the What If? story where he is sent to the NieR: Automata world completely alone without Morgana. In the main story, having Morgana at least helped Ren feel not so isolated from the Party Scattering at the start of the story, but in the What If? story, Ren is all alone and felt the emotional anguish of being isolated from everyone but his Persona's easier. The author rightfully calls that story Dost Thou Even Steal Hearts on Hard Mode.
  • Magnetic Hero: He attracts Undying Loyalty from the people who knows him and his charisma won him fans over the nation.
  • Mythology Gag: His fake alias, Kurusu Akira, refers the manga adaptation where that's Joker's real name in the manga until the Anime adaptation canonized the name Amamiya Ren for future Persona 5 related media.
  • Obfuscating Disability: As Kurusu Akira is officially registered as Quirkless, people tend to view him as the equivalent of heavily handicapped. They have no idea of the abilities bestowed upon him by the Fool Arcana.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: Unwittingly becomes this when he and the Personae sensed the multiple souls of One For All.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Due to his Second Awakening, Joker's outfit now sports gold trims with a new mask to match Satanel.
  • Spanner in the Works: Just by appearing and his actions, he causes the schemes of the villains and even some heroes of MHA to go FUBAR.
  • Stepford Smiler: Kurusu Akira is a polite young man who always jokes and has a pep talk for everyone — and under this false name lies Amamiya Ren who doesn't take well the separation from his True Companions AT ALL and desperately wonders if he will ever be able to go back to his world.
  • Supreme Chef: After becoming the Blue Lotus cafe's barista, there is a surge in customers and everyone tasting his curry and coffee gushes over the taste.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years

Morgana | Mona

Arcana: Magician

  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: As a side effect of the world cross, Mona is locked into his house cat form. Once Joker reawakens, he gains access to all three of his forms.

     Allies

Quirkverse Branch of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts

  • But Now I Must Go: After Yaldabaoth is defeated, the main group (La Brava, Gentle Criminal, Spinner and Mr. Compress) make thier escape from UA with style in a very open homage to Joker.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: Unlike the main branch of the Phantom thieves which mostly consist of high schoolers, the Quirkverse branch members are filled with members of varying ages with a good portion of the members being adults and older than Joker. This later includes the other worlds that the original thieves were scattered to such as the Bleach verse branch under Ryuji and Futaba.
  • Secret-Keeper: They know the truth behind Joker and Mona as well as the true depths of their healing spells.
  • True Companions: As true to the Persona series, they became this.

Aiba Manami / La Brava

Arcana: Lovers

  • The Cracker / Playful Hacker: She's the reliable hacker of the team.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Lovers, a card of both romance and the choice between staying in your comfort zone and taking a chance. Before discovering Gentle Criminal and meeting Ren, her only friend was her computer. With Ren and Morgana's support, she makes the decision to meet Gentle and joins the Phantom Thieves as their primary digital support.

Kaito / Ito Kazuya

Arcana: Hermit

  • Blessed with Suck: His Quirk. It forces him to relive the lives of the people around him. He is physically 29, but mentally he is over 10,000 years old.
  • Non-Action Guy: The only member who doesn't fight and instead provides shelter and emotional support to some of the members.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Hermit, a card of isolation, maturity, and internal reflection. He lived in total isolation, only meeting people through his tiny internet cafe that is not known by anyone except through little exploration. For so long, he wasn't truly living as he doesn't want to experience what happened to him as a child again.

Gentle Criminal / Danjuro Tobita

Arcana: Temperance

  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Temperance, a card of moderation, balance, and synthesis of extremes. He struggled with being labeled a minor annoying criminal at best and the desire to be a hero/Gentleman Thief. He wanted to become a hero until he was forced to turn to the life of crime when being a hero officially was denied to him.
  • Took a Level in Badass: His quirk evolved during Summer Camp, protecting the kids who cheered him on.

Spinner / Iguchi Shuichi and Lady Stubbs

Arcana: Apostle

  • Adaptational Heroism: Courtesy of admiring Joker instead of Stain, Spinner strives to destroy societal hypocrisy and oppression in a much less destructive manner.
  • Be Yourself: Under Joker’s empathetic and kind gesture, he saw a chance to be his own person who can and will exist. Coming from his backstory where he felt he has no reason to exist until he latched on Stain, this is pretty big as Ren wanted him to be who he is.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: Even with only her merps and expressions alone, Stubbs snarked at her team a lot.

Mr. Compress / Sako Atsuhiro

Arcana: Faith

Shinsou Hitoshi

Arcana: Moon

  • Honorary True Companion: He's not an official member as he never partook in the heists. However, his actions during the Kamino Disaster made it clear he's still one of them.
    • Aizawa points out that this is intentional, as it would be easier for Hitoshi to become a Hero with a clean record rather than go through the Vigilante Rehabilitation program on the off-chance he was caught with the Thieves on a heist.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Moon, a card of creativity as well as unconscious urges. His quirk caused him grief over the years as well as the fact he was unable to get into the hero course upon entry. Joker opened the door to vigilantism though Joker would not allow him to join in so he could get a chance to remain a hero with a clean record.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Under Joker's training, he learned how to use weapons like guns properly, hand-in-hand combat, and make stuff. La Brava also trained him how to hack and build his own computer. Later he starts getting proper training from Eraserhead. His handling of gun's under Joker's mentorship impressed Snipe so much that he ask for Joker to teach him.

Civilian Allies

Shinsou Risumi and Ayumu

Arcana: Strength

  • Dream Walker / Dream Weaver: A combo quirk for Ayumu. He can walk in dreams while also creating dreams. The dreamy factor of Hitoshi’s quirk came from him.
  • Forced Sleep: Risumi’s quirk. It’s a comforting one though as often she has a motherly softer aura and speech to put them to sleep. Most of Hitoshi's brainwashing aspect of his quirk came from her.
  • Good Parents: They are supporting parents for Hitoshi.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: A platonic example. Risumi, Ayumu, and Hitoshi himself by extension agreed to name the twin girls, Hitoshi’s new little sisters, after the names Joker used, Akira, his fake alias, and Ren, his real name.
  • Sweet Baker / Supreme Chef: Ayumu’s specialty is his baked goods and he stress bakes.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Strength, a card of power, confidence, and facing obstacles with grace. They handled the Silver Falcon and Joker being Akiren situations with grace.

Juzo News: Tokuda Taneo / T-san

  • Going for the Big Scoop: Their news business made it a point by interviewing dangerous criminals though in the past it led to those criminals escaping justice before they can be captured. Their biggest pride was being Joker's allies which they made sure will never get out to anyone.
  • Undying Loyalty: They’re loyal to Joker for as long as Joker made association with them and refuse to sell him or his allies out to anyone.

Hatsume Ichinose and Mei

  • Good Parents
  • Undying Loyalty: They are loyal to Joker since the Yaoyorozu family's fraud were brought to light as they were made victim of the family's gluttony. Mei even went viral for calling out a man and her spirited support for Joker.

Magne

  • Spared by the Adaptation: In not joining the League, she was spared her death sentence. She was close enough as it seemed she was able to meet Toga and Twice but apparently refused to join after Compress met AFO which in his end refused to let Magne join because the red flags. In fact, if her business still went under, then she managed to rebuild her business elsewhere with friends' help. In fact, the Thieves managed to drive up business with their cooking and drinks enough, not Blue Lotus' popularity, but still decent enough business.

     UA High School

Staff and Faculty

Aizawa Shouta / Eraserhead

Arcana: Hierophant

  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Hierophant, a card of tradition, conformity, and education. While he's not the best teacher, regardless of his outspokenness about the UA entrance exam and his disdain about the whole fame of Heroes, he still has so much faith in the system that he sees have justice. Joker forced him to see beyond that of the system that he trusts so much. However, early in the story, Joker views Aizawa in the reversed position due to their opposing stances at the time and it only turned upright after both Joker and Aizawa get an understanding of each other.
  • Trauma Button: Joker and everything at Kamino and Summer Camp pressed his buttons about Oboro.

Yagi Toshinori / All Might

Arcana: Judgement

  • Must Make Amends: He had believed that he had killed AFO for five years and counting until he finally meet him again at Kamino. When Joker with Sraosha killed AFO, All Might took responsibility and blame in public television for not killing AFO years ago. He made it clear that he had intended to kill AFO and the fact that AFO gave him the injury that gave him this skinny form was enough to shut the nation up as they watch their perfect hero admitted that he had fully intended to murder someone (despite laws saying heroes cannot kill but All Might said the opposite in full view of the public) but failed and that someone was strong enough to cripple All Might years previous. After about a month or so, AFO’s death was dropped because it’s hard to discuss the ethics when their number one hero flat-out admitted to attempted murder for years and AFO was strong enough to hurt the number one hero bad.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: He knows Joker and Mona came from another world but doesn’t quite believe it. Regardless he’s not saying a peep to anyone. All Gran Torino and Nighteye know was the phrase AFO gave him and that’s it.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Judgement, a card of self-reflection for great change, revelation, and renewal. After Kamino and seeing the effects that Joker has made to society, he began to look over his decisions and what he could've done better.

Nezu

Arcana: Devil

  • Companion Cube: His red herring plushy, a gift from Joker he names Admiral Feesh and starts dragging everywhere with him.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Devil, a card of obsession, addiction, and freedom from things that chains us. His projections onto Joker and Mona were about his past as a lab rat that he is still chained to the past even if he looked like he moved on with better things.
  • Troll: Gleefully does this to his staff who suffer.
  • Wishful Projection: His theories about Joker and Mona revolves around his past so much worse than Joker’s actual story actually was. He dropped his projections when all his theories were wrong.

Class 1-A

Midoriya Izuku / Deku

Arcana: Chariot

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: He managed to figure out that Joker have different mythological beings with their own strengths and weaknesses through analysing his fighting alone, unlike All For One who needed to use Search. Currently, he’s trying to figure out how the Tarot connects to Joker and who and which the people’s Arcana are to Joker.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Inverted with Akira who's one year older — Izuku is quite upset when he starts suspecting the other teen from being bullied.
  • Character Development: Much of his canon character development was sped up as Joker opened eyes through his actions. He began to see criminals does need to be saved just as much as he sees Joker doing his best to save criminals, only targeting who the system missed under the cracks of society and giving mercy only when necessary.
  • Secretly Selfish: Downplayed. He was relieved that he didn’t have to face AFO in the end after all even though it meant his big brother figure have to bear the burden of taking his first human life.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Chariot, a card of self-mastery and strong will. His desire to become a hero and his strong will enabled him to use more OFA drove him to break the levels of his body yet he will keep going for his goals.

Bakugou Katsuki

Arcana: Tower

  • Character Development: He gets one thanks to Joker's actions and learning about how he represents the Tower to Joker gave him a lot of self-reflection.
  • Heroic BSoD: Like in canon, after Kamino, he blamed himself for being the reason why All Might retired and Joker (and Seth) died multiple times. The added tension that Joker sees him as the Tower doesn’t help.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Tower, a card of upheaval and revelation. His views on things changed dramatically after Kamino as well as the unforeseen changes of Joker and Deku receiving OFA from All Might of all people. Finding out that he represents the Tower also causes further self-reflection on the implications.

Todoroki Shouto

Arcana: Hanged Man

  • Fanboy: A very vocal and protective fan of Joker. He stays stalwart even when his peers discover Joker's true identity as a civilian and their trust in Joker wavers due to their Conflicting Loyalty.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Hanged Man, a card of self-sacrifice, liminality, and perspective. His father and his family were the main sticking points of his refusal to use fire as well as the potential of his eldest brother to be a fellow Confidant.

Iida Tenya / Ingenium II

Arcana: Emperor

  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Emperor, a card of structured authority and responsibility. His rigidity and his Black-and-White Morality was a sticking point when his own brother have to point out the gray shades himself. As part of his character development, he took inspiration from Joker from applying ambushes which Tsuyu points out she never thought he would ever plan.

Yaoyorozu Momo

Arcana: Empress

  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Empress, a card of passion. She was stifled by her parents who wanted her to live as a doll and doesn't trust her. Only when she's finally free that she was able to grow into her passion of being a hero and making sure her parents' victims receive the justice they deserve.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: A lot of Momo's self-esteem issues comes from wanting to impress her parents but after she learned about what her parents truly thought of her and what they have done, her parents are all but a Broken Pedestal to her.

Kirishima Ejirou

Arcana: Sun

  • Sweet Tooth: Adores the double chocolate brownies sold at Blue Lotus and always gets it after every meal there.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Sun, a card of mental and emotional clarity. His insecurities are overwhelming him that he uses false optimism to mask it.

Upperclassman

     Heroes

Endeavor / Todoroki Enji

Arcana: Death

  • Heel Realization: His defeat under Joker, on top of his children all defying him gave him an early one. He later had another epiphany when he learns that his youngest son is viewed as the Hanged Man.
  • Scars Are Forever: He received a scar from Kohryu. It’s unknown he’ll receive his canon scar from Hood but it’s doubtful with Joker changing everything and the League exerting all their efforts on Joker due to Joker ruining everything for them.
  • Tarot Motifs: He represents Death, a card that signifies spiritual transformation and a time of change. Joker's presence fundamentally changed much of Endeavor's views of the world and gave him a lot of Heel Realization about his own beliefs.

Nighteye / Mirai Sasaki

Arcana: Fortune Reversed

  • Outside-Context Problem: Nighteye is completely dumbfounded by Joker's existence and how his own quirk reacts so differently to him. This is what led to Nighteye realizing that Joker is not from the My Hero Academia universe.
  • Tarot Motifs: He represents the Fortune arcana, but reversed, representing loss of control, bad luck and un-welcome changes. Joker represents the complete opposite of Nighteye's rigid beliefs about fate that Nighteye is left scrambling to wonder where he should go from there.

Wild Wild Pussy Cats

  • I Owe You My Life: In canon, they were down one active duty member. Here, Pixie-Bob lost her quirk to AFO too. Sraosha killing AFO and releasing the souls means Search and Earth Flow are back where they belong. Now, the team can still do their hero rescue work completely and gratefully with AFO dead.

One For All and its Torchbearers

  • Secretly Selfish: Like their successors, it's heavily implied they are relieved the battle between AFO and OFA ended by someone else killing AFO. They must've seen everything at Kamino and realized that Joker and his Personae already know about them.

Joker Hero Team: Gang Orca, Iida Tensei / Ingenium I, Miruko, Hawks, Ryukyu, Best Jeanist

  • Protectorate: All of them are protective of Joker and his legacy. They refused to let other heroes taint his name just because laws that they now see are unlawful at worst and are the reason why so many of those like Joker suffer.

Hawks / Takami Keigo

Arcana: Star

  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Star, a card of hopes in dark times. His time as the golden child of the Hero Commission was a gilded cage where the Commission controls his every move since his debut. However, there is a hope in the dark that he can be free from his cage, especially when Joker himself is doing good work that allows him rebellion and freedom.

Gang Orca / Sakamata Kugo

Arcana: Councillor

  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Councillor, a card of diplomacy, creativity, persuasion, and working around mental illness. Sharing with Ryukyu, they work to build a better life for criminals and the unseen the system overlooked.

Ryukyu / Tatsuma Ryuko

Arcana: Councillor

  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Councillor, a card of diplomacy, creativity, persuasion, and working around mental illness. Sharing with Gang Orca, they work to build a better life for criminals and the unseen the system overlooked.

Iida Tensei/Ingenium I

Arcana: Fortune

  • I Owe You My Life: He is very grateful of Joker for healing his injuries.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Thanks to Joker, he was spared of the injuries from Stain that caused him to retire in canon.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Fortune, a card that represents good luck, unexpected events and decisive moments. Tensei received good luck in Joker healing him of his injuries and had since sided and vouched for Joker in gratitude.

Miruko

Arcana: High Priestess

  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the High Priestess, a card that represents intuition, sacred knowledge, and subconscious mind.

Best Jeanist

Arcana: Adjustment

     Police and Government Workers

Police

Tsukauchi Naomasa

Arcana: Justice

Hero Public Safety Commission

Kunikazu Hiroto

  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: An investigation regarding the hospital Kaito was held captive in and experimented by the doctors on had the Thieves and heroes learn of Kunikazu having a mother in a critical state who is being hospitalized for decades and in the epilogue, Kunikazu had been shocked and also in joy to see his mother walking and alive to see him in Tartarus, hinting that he tried to keep his comatosed mother safe.
  • Hate Sink: He was already a horrible Jerkass who placed a bounty on Joker and wants him in Tartarus, then he crossed the line when he uses his quirk on a comatose Joker after he permanently stopped All For One, and caused his "death". Joker is an In-Universe Base Breaker for killing All For One but overall is seen as the hero who ends the League of Villains so causing Joker's "death" is also an In-Universe Moral Event Horizon. His only redeeming trait is his love for his mother.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He's bent on drugging Joker into an artificial coma before locking the vigilante in the worst prison in Japan. Even learning Joker likely is underage doesn't make him rethink his opinion.
  • Yellow Eyes of Sneakiness: He's described with yellow eyes, uses his Quirk to discreetly torment his employees and is very much a crooked politician from dubious morals.

Ryoto

  • God in Human Form: Ryoto's real identity is that he's the god overseeing the BNHA universe. However, only Ren is aware of this as Ryoto is content to mingle with the humans of the world he reigned in.
  • The Reveal: Ryoto is the god overseeing the BNHA universe and is helping Philemon to deal with Yaldabaoth and Nyarlatothep’s machinations.
  • Token Good Teammate: He personally doesn't like the way Kunikazu Hiroto runs the commission and discretely allied himself with Nedzu and the heroes fighting against him. After Kunikazu is finally caught and arrested, he is eventually made the new head of the commission.

     League of Villains

The League of Villains

  • Decapitated Army: After AFO's death, everything fell apart for the LOV. AFO's criminal empire fell apart because he's Hated by All. Tomura and his remaining members are falling apart from infighting and doubt from the lack of purpose, Joker taking the spotlight again, and their name is nothing to the general public. The doctor's face is seen and that's more of a setback than one important Nomu kidnapping ring have done. The AFO quirk is long gone and can't be transferred to Tomura. All they have left is revenge against Joker while the remaining members just want to leave and at the least talk to Joker.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Joker took their purpose away from them. He upstaged them in every way, leaving them flailing with no clear goal. Whatever goals they have left is not making hero society crumble, but what they want now with society changing.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: The lieutenants are grasping at straws, thinking they can salvage the plans. As much as they hate it, all they can think of is revenge because their lynchpins are destroyed including Shigaraki's lack of growth. Considering what is stated on this section, they are putting the final nails in the coffin of the League itself. It's only a matter of time until the doctor is caught and likely targeted by the Thieves themselves. Lavenza is coming soon and she will wreck their plans to oblivion just as much as Joker have done. Seriously, they have no chance in winning against a Ruler of Power and a Wild Card who are outright determined to wreck them.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: In canon, the LOV gained notoriety as a menacing terrorist group. Originally after Kamino where the canon aftermath shot them in the public eye with AFO’s arrest. Here, they are nothing, especially after the Kamino Disaster when Joker destroyed everything they did that night and took the spotlight again with the heights of his powers. All everyone ever talked about was Joker, All Might’s retirement, and AFO’s death which was shut down ultimately by All Might himself who said that he thought he killed him years ago. With All Might himself saying that and the spirited support from Joker fans including Mei calling out a man to read the disaster, there is no wonder people didn’t bring up what AFO was the boss of and his minions. If they did, it’s likely mocking the LOV. Juzo News, the news business who always aimed for something new, didn’t bring them up unlike in the filler episode where they attempt to learn more about AFO. Even with a cursory look at the news articles titles, none mention the LOV by name.
  • Paper Tiger: They do have strong members but when doubt is going all around and all the important factors are gone, then they're weakened.

All For One

Arcana: Hunger

  • A God Am I: Of course, wanting to be the Demon Lord and the dream to live forever, got that megalomania to complete it. Joker put an end to that with the fact he can never get back the Demon Lord title with the appearance of Satanael and his agonizing death at the hands of Sraosha’s Hamaon, a Bless One-Hit Kill that wiped every last piece of his soul off the face of the earth. He shows that while he is a human with pseudo-godlike powers, he is still human and is no god in the face of an actual god who has no patience for the evil he caused.
  • All for Nothing: Every single plan he made disappeared as soon as Sraosha killed him and released his captive quirks back to their rightful owners while the others passed on. The fact he killed Seth will be for nothing when Lavenza is coming and can potentially restore him in the far future. He does not know anything about Joker and his powers, especially how a supernaturally powerful inhuman person can Curbstomp his ass and easily return Seth.
  • Bad Boss: It was he who ordered Compress to be eliminated when he sees Compress after the mission.
  • Big Bad: Of his world. He planned to crush humanity beneath his heel once his plans come to fruition.
  • Break the Haughty: He's the most arrogant person to even think he can win against something he doesn't understand. All he knows is Joker has magic and is from another world. He doesn't know shit that he is dealing with forces beyond his imagination. He is killed when his flaws are his downfall; Sraosha refused to let him live because he sees the depravity this monster has sunk to and the suffering of the souls he kept in his body.
  • Bullying a Dragon: On the receiving end of this trope. Besides the Phantom Thieves, AFO was the only person who understood that Joker had powerful Wrong Context Magic. Despite knowing this and that he doesn’t know the full extent of Joker’s abilities, he tries to kidnap him anyway in hopes of harnessing Joker's powers for his own gain. This ended "well" for him.
  • The Dreaded: The most feared villain in the history of Quirks since its inception. Even his loyal men are afraid of him.
  • Dying Alone: As a final middle finger, AFO didn’t get to die on his terms. While Joker was forced to meet him on AFO’s terms, Joker killed him in the end with nobody at his side. He died via a spell that utterly wiped his soul off the face of the earth, every soul piece meaning the original AFO quirk is gone as well.
  • Fatal Flaw: All of his flaws led to his downfall, regardless of how intelligent he thinks he is for planning ahead. He does not account for Sraosha killing him the moment he’s summoned even while having Search.
    • In his belief he’s invincible and always wins with his plans, he never really understood what Joker is. Joker wrecked his plans before he even met him and even then, he truly thought his new plans would ever bear fruit for him and his empire with Joker in the mix. Joker permanently destroyed everything for him at Kamino, with AFO’s quirk’s destruction and the release of his stolen quirks. Shigaraki still isn’t growing in the way he hoped so that plan was also wrecked. In his death and the destruction of his quirk, both original and copy, there is nothing left for the League.
  • Karmic Death: He kidnapped Joker in an attempt to either suborn Joker or kill him and take his "quirk." That same power sees him dead when he refuses to leave Joker be AND tries to make a spectacle of his death.
  • Kick the Dog: Everything he does honestly but in terms of things actually relevant to his goals, taking Pixie-Bob's quirk. Search is useful for finding other quirks and people. He took Earth Flow expressly to be a DICK.
  • Killed Off for Real: At Kamino was where he met his end by Sraosha who promptly released his captive quirks back to their rightful owners, with the others passing on, effectively destroying both the copy and the original to the aether.
  • Life's Work Ruined: Joker ruined everything for him. The quirk he worked so hard for and had the original hidden away for Shigaraki’s ascension is long gone, as both the original and copy are connected through the sheer fact Search is with the original while it was the copy that was used to steal Search. The setbacks Joker made crippled them with the biggest blows being Tomura’s stagnation, the doctor’s face being seen, and his death.
  • Sociopath: Of course. Even when he has a so-called bond with Joker as an Arcana, it means nothing because he can’t form that bond anyway. He can act fatherly to Tomura but harbor no affection beyond how he can use him, seeing him only as a possession. He has no care for humanity, taking advantage of the vulnerable people of the world for his own ends like the quirkless and orphans.
    • This works against him when Sraosha is summoned. Realizing that All For One would NOT stop so long as he’s still alive causes Sraosha to snap and kill him despite Joker’s wishes.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents Reversed Strength/Hunger/Lust, a card of strength through dominance and the pure bliss of abusing power. Because of his powers and abilities, it allowed him to reign supreme over the underground, happily kidnapping, stealing quirks, and lording his power over innocents who live in fear of him.

Shigaraki Tomura / Shimura Tenko

Arcana: Death Reversed

  • De-power: Suffers this in the climax of the Eight Bullets arc, courtesy of Toga and a permanent Quirk-Erasing bullet.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: When Joker is doing what he wanted to do, what does that leave him?
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Death, a card of change and leaving behind the old for new opportunities. However, he is the Reversed, in the process of stagnation. He doesn't know what his goals are beyond what he has known since AFO took him in and now with AFO dead, he still doesn't know since Joker already did what Tomura wanted to do.

Kurogiri

  • The Heart: He’s trying to be this in the aftermath of Kamino with the death of AFO. He’s trying to recruit people instead of the members doing it, talking to Tomura and the other lieutenants about the plans while not knowing that Toga, Dabi, and perhaps Twice are having second thoughts and ulterior reasons for staying before leaving.

Garaki Kyudai / Ujiko Daruma

  • Jerkass: Has no problem experimenting on humans and is always callous about humanity as long as he gets to pursue his research.
  • Life's Work Ruined: He haven’t tested the High End nomus yet everything is crashing down. His face is seen and he is eventually caught and arrested by authorities without Joker's full knowledge of the heroes plan to hunt him down for what he did to Joker.
  • Mad Scientist: His Nomu research, the Quirk Singularity that he is obsessed with.
  • They Would Cut You Up: What he attempted to do to Joker in Sapporo and his plans for him if he ever catches Joker again.
  • Undying Loyalty: to AFO. Even when his Nomu operations at an important ring was stopped and AFO was forced to send Nomus to save him, he remained loyal to him and vowed revenge. Considering he had been with AFO for 120+ years, yeah. He got his original quirk back (having given AFO the original while he kept the copy for himself) and less than happy about that, knowing his master is dead and their plans are destroyed beyond repair.

Gigantomachia

  • Excessive Mourning: His mourning can be heard from his hiding, forcing Kurogiri to move him. He still hasn't accepted it as he asked why his master left him in his tears.
  • Undying Loyalty: to AFO. He was inconsolable upon learning his master’s death.

Giran

  • Ambiguous Situation: After being scared straight by Joker, he disappeared entirely, making no contact with the League henceforward. Kurogiri noted that he was lost to them when he’s the guy they turned to for new recruits. The only hints were he will leave Japan and disappear.
  • Knowledge Broker: The best and affiliated with the League.

Dabi / Todoroki Touya

Arcana: Justice Reversed

  • Big Brother Instinct: Still has this in spite of everything. When things start going south with the League, Dabi gains the habit of standing between the increasingly volatile Shigaraki and Toga. Once he confirms that she and Twice want to leave the League, Dabi enlists the aid of Joker to ensure their escape.
  • Revenge: Against his dad who he despises for throwing him away like trash and willing to add the killing of his immediate family, playing the long game till his time to strike. Joker points out the lifelessness of the end goal and the bigger picture at large, thus the Wild Card opened new paths immediately, destroying any route to destruction.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Justice arcana, a card that represents karmic justice. But reversed. Dabi grew utterly hell bent in his revenge against his father that he couldn't even care about any collateral damage that he would cause in the process.
  • You Remind Me of X: Joker is reminded of Akechi when he learns of Dabi and it's one of the reasons why he wanted to reach out to him.

Toga Himiko

Arcana: Hope

  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: She thought she knew with her admiration for Stain and her allegiance with the League. However with Joker treating her as a human being with all his empathy and his actions sending the League crashing down, it made her question what and who she is.
  • Tarot Motifs: Represents the Hope, a card of optimism, positivity, and hope itself. She desired a second chance in life but wary of it when she had been burned before for trying to fit in. She is also providing hope for skeptical criminals and villains because if she, a known murderer, can get a second chance, then so can they.

Twice

  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: After Kamino, Toga comments he doesn’t know what to do.
  • Morality Pet: Of sorts to Toga and Dabi. Toga wants to take him with her when she leaves the League and Dabi approaches the Phantom Thieves for help under the condition that they help Toga and Twice.
  • Out of Focus: While Dabi and Tomura don’t get that many POV sections, they are important nonetheless with Joker’s focus on the former and the latter having some interactions and actions. Twice got none so far to say that he’s remotely important and what we even know about Twice was from Toga.

     Villains

Stain / Stendhal / Chizome Akaguro

  • And Then What?: The crux of why he fails and Joker succeeds: he doesn’t actually have any plans on what to do besides getting rid of “fake heroes” nor does his approach actually stop them from being created in the first place.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Joker overtook everything from him. The only people who even mention him are Shigaraki and Toga and even then, it's more have to do with Joker's actions on the world at large. With Joker's transparency and declarations of intent of what he is doing, including his actions tackling what the police and heroes are failing to tackle, Joker showcased a constructive touch Stain never does on top of his charisma, being the Hope Bringer, and sheer spite towards authority and oppressive institutions.

Shie Hassaikai

Arcana: Aeon Reversed

     Civilians

Haru

  • Aura Vision: Her quirk is to sense the general emotions in an atmosphere and know the unique auras of certain people.
  • Cool Old Lady: She’s the one who was able turn the atmosphere around when All Might and Tsukauchi came for lunch.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted, with Akira struggling when he first interacts with her for bearing the same name than one of his True Companions.
  • Secret-Keeper: She immediately recognized Akiren through his aura alone when he rescued her from a trafficking ring.

Izumi Kouta

Todoroki Family

  • Fanboy: Like his brother, Natsuo is a fan of Joker. Fuyumi is also a fan of Joker as well.

Eri

Arcana: Aeon

  • Living MacGuffin: Served as one in the Hassaikai arc as she is the crux key for the Hassaikai's plans while the Phantom thieves and the heroes work to safeguard her.
