The DIY Club

    Serufu Yua

Voiced by: Konomi Inagaki

The main heroine of the series. Serufu is a kind, imaginative yet incredibly clumsy high schooler who takes an interest in her school's home improvement club.

  • Animal Lover: Judging by her variety of pets, Serufu really likes having animals around. She has a dog, a cat, and a little pig who all eat, bathe and sleep with her.
  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: Serufu's tendency to let her imagination drift as it will when people are talking to her means that she often answers questions with a totally bizarre non-sequitur.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Serufu is rather prone to spacing out and letting her imagination drift, dreaming of such bizarre things like sleeping on a cloud or living in an amusement park. It's apparent that she's not really paying attention what's happening around her much of the time.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Serufu is a sweet girl, but is also inhumanly spacey and accident-prone. Yet nothing bad that happens to her ever seems to bring down her spirits. She frequently has band-aids on her face from accidentally injuring herself.
  • Cute Little Fangs: She has a small fang on the right side of her mouth, which is drawn to look as though it's part of her upper lip. It serves to highlight her cute, airheaded nature.
  • Ditzy Genius: Despite being an airheaded klutz, Serufu is actually rather intelligent. It's stated by Purin that the only reason she didn't get into YuVoc with her is because she stated daydreaming in the middle of the entrance exam. After midterms, she ended up coming up third in her whole grade above even Child Prodigy Jobko (who got a perfect score in every subject but Japanese, as she has trouble writing in that language). And she pulled this off despite falling asleep in the middle of them.
  • Eccentric Artist: She's a really skilled illustrator as shown by the various sketches and drawings she does through the show. Though with how wild her imagination gets, it makes things like planning the treehouse a bit impractical with how often she gets carried away. The others have to rein her in a bit so they have a plausible visualization of the project.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Serufu always wears her school uniform half tucked in (right side) and half hanging out (left side). It's a sign of how laid back she is. The slightly unkempt look is reflective of her spacey outlook on life.
  • Hidden Depths: If you look at her bedroom, she has a collection of various trophies around, meaning that whatever she did to get them took some real skill, implying she's got a lot of talent we don't see fully tapped into.
  • The Klutz: Serufu constantly has band-aids on her face due to injuring herself, such as riding her bike into a streetlight. The School Nurse comments on her perfect attendance.
  • Ms. Imagination: Whenever the show switches to Serufu's POV, it's common for a wild Imagine Spot to play, giving a glimpse at her ditzy and imaginative headspace. She could pause a conversation outright to imagine herself living in a gingerbread house for example.
  • The Nicknamer: Serufu has nicknames for most of her friends. Like calling Suride "Purin" and calling Takumi "Takumin" shortly after they meet. She also gives exchange student Juliet, "Jobko"
  • Punny Name: Yua Serufu = Yoo-ah-se-re-foo = Yourself.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: 'Yua Serufu' is phonetically identical to 'yourself' in Japanese. It's even pointed out at the end of the first episode.

    Miku Suride

Voiced by: Kana Ichinose

Also called "Purin" by Serufu; she's a genius-level student attending YuuVoc to pursue engineering. She's Serufu's childhood friend who finds herself constantly worried over the former's clumsiness.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Serufu calls Miku "Purin" (Japanese for "pudding") which annoys Miku more than endears her. However, she puts up with it from Jobko.
  • Angry Cheek Puff: She has the habit of puffing her cheeks whenever she gets annoyed by Serufu's antics.
  • Animal Motifs: Sea jellies; the robot in her home resembles a sea jelly and she even has anatomy charts of them in her room. There's also the handmade wind chimes gifted to her by Serufu, that she keeps as a souvenir, that resemble sea jellies.
  • Foregone Conclusion: It's clear from the opening and the promotions that Miku, despite her protests, will eventually join the DIY club.
  • Got Me Doing It: When Purin introduces herself, she accidentally starts calling herself Purin before immediately switching to her real name, Suride Miku.
  • Punny Name: Suride Miku isn't, but her nickname, "Purin" from Serufu is. "s'ree-dee p'rin" - 3D-Printer.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: A lot of her abrasiveness is usually reserved for Serufu, who constantly annoys Miku due to her klutziness. Otherwise, she's pretty nice around other people, which shows especially in her friendship with Jobko.
  • Teen Genius: She claims to have mastered 3D printing on her first day of class, and she goes on to showcase strong skills in construction, architectural planning and, to her embarrassment, arts and crafts.
  • Tsundere: Miku acts angry and gruff towards Serufu ever since they didn't get into the same school (never mind they live right next to each other and chat through their windows all the time), but clearly misses her friend.

    Rei Yasaku

Voiced by: Ayane Sakura

A withdrawn third-year student with a knack for all things building. She's introduced as the leader and only member of the DIY club before accepting Serufu as her first new member.

  • Book Dumb: She's Implied to be this in episode 9, where she's completely floored by the other member's high midterm test scores, especially Serefu and Takumi's, and dodges the topic of her own placement.
  • Closet Geek: Yasaku is revealed to secretly enjoy a shojo manga called "Sunflower Girls", much to her embarrassment. It doesn't stop her from fangirling about with Takumi though.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Yasaku spends most of her time alone working in the DIY club house, not interacting much with her classmates. Most of the girls in her class only hear all the loud workshop noises coming from the club house and assume she's some kind of psycho with a mallet.
  • The Leader: Of the DIY Club, and the one who teaches and provides guidance on building to everyone.
  • Tomboy: Yasaku has notably sharp features compared to the other girls, as well as short hair and more androgynous fashion choices. It makes her stand out a lot in the all-girls school she attends, no doubt symbolizing her isolated nature.

    Takumi Hikage

Voiced by: Azumi Waki

A shy, bespectacled girl who's friends with Serufu, Takumi's introduced looking for ways to make new friends and decides DIY club is a good way to meet people. She's got an eye for visual arts and, in the second episode, redesigns the club room's welcome sign.

  • Brainy Brunette: She has dark-brown hair and is smart enough to place first in her grade after midterms.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Takumi is typically a masculine name but is used for a girl here.
  • Nice Girl: A very kind and friendly girl who quickly falls in with the DIY Club.
  • Shrinking Violet: A shy girl that takes a bit to get prepped up. When she does get into her groove, she's a lot more outgoing and cheerful.

    "Jobko"

Voiced by: Nichika Omori

Full name "Juliet Queen Elizabeth VIII", she's an insanely wealthy American student who skipped through school at the age of 12. She arrives to GataGirl, alone and bitter in her new circumstances before slowly taking an interest in the DIY Club where she adopts the nickname "Jobko".
  • But Now I Must Go: In the finale, Jobko returns to America, but promises she'll return to the club when she can.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Jobko shows up at her new school for the first time, bitter from being isolated from her peers in numerous ways from her age to her nationality, and further depressed from accidentally selecting the wrong school. (darn that complicated Kanji!) This is all expressed by aggressively pushing back against those around her, especially the DIY club who are content to work outside the prestigious and high-tech expectations of the school.
  • Child Prodigy: Jobko is only 12, but has intellect and vocabulary on par with people decades older.
  • Commonality Connection: Miku and Jobko find common ground by chatting about advanced engineering concepts like AI. Serufu remarks at them "speaking the same language".
  • Catchphrase: "Good Job" along with a thumbs-up gesture.
  • Grade Skipper: Jobko is only 12 years old but is smart enough to attend high school.
  • Gratuitous English: Excessively from Jobko. Her every sentence is half Japanese and half English. Justified by her being an American exchange student.
  • Hackette: Jobko breezed through Purin's house and computer security as part of moving in to Purin's house.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: Jobko is a 12-year-old who's smart enough that she's skipped straight to high school, and before she joins the DIY club it's clear that this has left her desperately lonely even without having moved to a foreign country.
  • Missing Mom: Several flashbacks show her happily with her mother. We learn at the end of the season that she died some years ago.
  • Token Mini-Moe: She's the age of an elementary schooler but attends an advanced high school. This makes the youngest member of the DIY Club by extent.
  • Token Minority: A White American girl attending a school mostly populated by Japanese students. The reality of that makes her feel isolated when she first arrives.

    Kokoro Kouki

Voiced by: Karin Takahashi

A very energetic and curious girl attending YuuVoc who befriends Miku. She takes an interest in DIY Club viewing them work outside, and then decides to quite literally crash their meeting to join up. She goes by the nickname "Shii".
  • Animal Motifs: She acts like a borderline Cat Girl, constantly meowing and always having a cat smile. She's also ridiculously athletic and prefers to hop along the school's roofs to get around.
  • Genki Girl: The most exuberant and energetic member of the cast.
  • Ninja: Jobko assumes she's one after seeing her coming busting through the club's roof.
  • Punny Name: "Shii" is a complicated one; Kokoro Kouki is her real name; koukishin means "curiosity" and "shi" is death. So "Curiosity Killed the Cat".
  • Smarter Than They Look: Behind all of her giddy and catlike mannerisms, she's implied to be pretty smart, especially since she got accepted into YuuVoc. She also knows how to disable the school's security systems to keep hopping around the roofs. She even teases Yasaku for her lack of academic prowess.
  • Token Minority: She's confirmed to be South Asian in a flashback. The appearance of her home country resembles Thailand.
  • Verbal Tic: Shii will regularly make a meowing noise at the end of her sentences.
