     Yū Morisawa / Creamy Mami
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yucreamy2.jpg
Voiced by: Takako Ōta

A 10-year-old girl with secret magic powers that allow her to transform into the 16-year-old Idol Singer Creamy Mami.

  • '80s Hair: Creamy's poofy, purple hair is one of the best examples of this trope in anime.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Yū and her old friend Toshio bicker like a married couple. Yū obviously likes him and Toshio has also shown that he genuinely cares for her.
  • Book Dumb: It's mentioned that Yū's grades are getting worse and worse. The only time she starts studying seriously, she ends up getting sick because it was too much for her.
  • Butt-Monkey: Yū is regularly insulted and put down by Toshio, the boy she is in love with. Which makes her frustrated and angry.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Toshio. At first, Yū suffers unrequited love for Toshio, but his fascination for Creamy reveals he could like Yū one day — and it indeed happens.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: A weird case in that Yū is jealous of herself. Specifically, she is very jealous of Toshio's crush on Creamy, who is just Yū's Sexier Alter Ego (but Toshio doesn't know it).
  • Dude Magnet: As Creamy, she attracts most boys and men around her, including Toshio. As Yū, she mostly attracts Midori (and eventually Toshio, even though he does't want to admit it).
  • Friend to All Living Things: On an animal show, Creamy Mami is the only actress who can befriend a bear.
  • Genki Girl: As Yū, she is feisty and energetic. She is more calm and composed as Creamy.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Again, mostly as Yū, she has a fiery temper. As Creamy, she usually manages to control herself and remain graceful, most of the time.
  • Just a Kid: The reason why the slightly older Toshio doesn't take Yū seriously and prefers her Older Alter Ego Creamy, at least initially.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: She has a close bond with her "kittens"/mentors Posi and Nega, and sometimes she treats them like real cats.
  • Living a Double Life: Yū has a secret identity as Creamy, an older teenager who is also an Idol Singer.
  • Magic Idol Singer: The Trope Maker. 10-year-old Yū is given magical powers by a friendly alien, which she uses to age herself up to a 16-year-old and is roped into becoming an idol. She decides to keep using her magic to be an idol, under the alias Creamy Mami.
  • Older Alter Ego: Yū is 10 years old, Creamy is at least 16.
  • One of the Boys: Yū always hangs out with boys, and her parents thinks it's one of the reasons why she is so tomboyish.
  • Plucky Girl: The space-cats even comment on how fearless she is.
  • Precocious Crush: Yū is in love with Toshio, an older boy, who prefers her metamorphosed Older Alter Ego Creamy.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: As Creamy, she is such a Dude Magnet that she even attracts Toshio. Yū hates Toshio's crush on Creamy, because she would like to attract him as her real self, Yū.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Yū has Boyish Short Hair, a lot of energy, and only hangs out with boys, much to the chagrin of her mother. But she usually wears a skirt, dreams of marrying Toshio, and she becomes very girly as Creamy.
  • Tsundere: She is really in love with Toshio. But any time Toshio insults Yū and/or praises Creamy, Yū usually gets angry or even hits him.

     Posi and Nega
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pone.jpg

Two magical kittens who are there to watch over Yū after she gains her powers.

  • Big Brother Instinct: Both are protective of Yū, although Nega doesn't want to admit it.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: Both of them. Nega is usually much snarkier than Posi, due to being a cynic. But even Posi can be snarky, although mostly towards Nega when she wants to scold him.
  • Cute Kitten: Although they are aliens and not real cats, they look like adorable small kittens.
  • Meaningful Name: Posi seems to look on the positive side of things, while Nega seems to have a negative view of everything.
  • Mentor Mascot: They are talking alien-kittens who are there to help Magical Girl Yū.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Nega is the brash Red Onli, Posi is the sensible Blue Oni.
  • Secret-Keeper: They are the only characters who interact with Yū and know about her secret identity as Creamy.

Nega

Voiced by: Kaneta Kimotsuki

  • Cynical Mentor: He is more cynical and pessimistic than Posi, both when it comes to Yū and other characters.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Usually a sidekick, but he gets two episodes where he is the main character.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being rude, he cares for Yū and even breaks down crying in the last episode, at the idea of not seeing her anymore.
  • Lazy Bum: Very often, he prefers to sleep and slack off rather than doing his work.
  • Plucky Comic Relief: He is the funnier of the two kittens, while Posi is often a Straight Man to him.
  • Snarky Non-Human Sidekick: Serves as a sarcastic, wise-cracking sidekick to Yū.

Posi

Voiced by: Yūko Mita

  • Hypocrite: Posi tries to be the "positive" one compared to Nega, but she is always ready to criticize Nega for everything, making her hypocritical.
  • The Idealist: Always supportive of Yū and has good faith in her, no matter what she does.
  • Not So Above It All: She is usually more positive and optimistic than Nega. But when she scolds Nega, she is just as rude and critical as him.
  • Straight Man: Since Nega is lazy, brash and irritable, Posi always calls him out on his behavior.

Yū's father.

  • Bumbling Dad: He can be goofy and absent-minded from time to time.
  • Henpecked Husband: 90% of the time, he lets his wife take all the decisions.
  • Retired Badass: Yū's father was a member of the biker gang her mother had led and the romance between them blossomed from there.

Yū's Friends

     Toshio Ōtomo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toshio_1.jpg
Voiced by: Yuu Mizushima

Yū's childhood friend. She has a crush on him, but he prefers her alter ego Creamy, without knowing that they are the same person.

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: He and Yū are old friends who bicker like a married couple. Yū obviously likes him and Toshio has also shown that he genuinely cares for her.
  • Butt-Monkey: Many times, when he mistreats or belittles Yū, he gets some comical comeuppance (or beating) by Yū herself or by Midori.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: With Yū. At first, Yū suffers unrequited love for Toshio, but his fascination for Creamy reveals he could like Yū one day — and it indeed happens.
  • Fanboy: A huge fan of the Idol Singer Creamy. He has a very big crush on her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: A cocky boy who frequently makes fun of Yū, but he is also caring and protective of her.
  • Love at First Sight: Falls for Creamy since the first moment he meets her.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: He is dismissive of his childhood friend Yū, but is madly in love with her Older Alter Ego Creamy. At least, until he realizes they are the same person…
  • Oblivious to Love: Often Yū tries to create a romantic connection with him, but Toshio doesn't take her seriously. This regularly makes her angry.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: A tall and dark-haired boy, who is seen as attractive by Yū.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: When he and Yū were playing together as little kids, he was sweeter to her than he is now.

     Midori Kisaragi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/midori_5.jpg
Voiced by: Masahiro Anzai

Toshio's best friend. He is in love with Yū.

  • Berserk Button: He doesn't take it well when someone doesn't respect Yū. Including his friend Toshio.
  • Big Eater: He eats a lot. Besides his love for Yū, food is his other obsession.
  • Bumbling Sidekick: A clumsy sidekick to Toshio, and the latter can be very rude to him.
  • Butt-Monkey: As a comic relief character, he is a frequent victim of slapstick.
  • Fat Idiot: Very overweight, and clearly not very bright. Toshio even stated Midori gets bad grades.
  • Fat Comic Relief: He is an overweight boy who is a Big Eater and a Bumbling Sidekick, and he is usually treated as a ridiculous character.
  • Gentle Giant: Is much bigger than everyone, but is usually more kind and meek than the cocky Toshio, since he has a shy crush on Yū.
  • Hopeless Suitor: To Yū. He is hopelessly in love with her but Yū treats him like a friend at best or completely ignores him at worst.

     Mamoru Hidaka
Voiced by: Naomi Zinbo

Yū's new classmate and eventual friend.

  • Country Mouse: He comes from a small village and is clueless about life in the big city.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: He has a fondness for animals, especially cats. He even bonds with Posi and Nega, even though he realizes they are not real cats.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is rude to everyone at first, but he becomes a good friend to Yū later on.
  • New Transfer Student: A new student in Yū's class in later episodes.

Show Business People

     Shingo Tachibana
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b19647_jrtrbwgsutht.png
Voiced by: Kazuhiko Inoue

The young president of Parthenon Productions who notices Creamy Mami's talent.

  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: With Megumi. For all their arguing, it's hinted (and sometimes explicitly shown) that they really like each other.
  • Butt-Monkey: As a Running Gag, Megumi slaps him whenever he neglects her in favor of Creamy.
  • Hopeless Suitor: His crush on Creamy is obviously unrequited. Because Creamy/Yū only loves Toshio.
  • Oblivious to Love: He doesn't get that Megumi is in love with him because he always pays more attention to Creamy.
  • Ship Tease: While he prefers Creamy, it's often implied that there is something between him and Megumi.

     Megumi Ayase
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/megumi_9.jpg
Voiced by: Saeko Shimazu

Another idol who also works for Parthenon Productions, and becomes very jealous of Creamy.

  • Alpha Bitch: She is a spoiled diva who hates Creamy, although it's implied that she has a softer side, bordering on Lovable Alpha Bitch at times.
  • Always Second Best: She is always overshadowed by Creamy, and everyone prefers Creamy over her, no matter what she does.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: With Tachibana. For all their arguing, it's hinted (and sometimes explicitly shown) that they really like each other.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: She hates when Tachibana gushes over Creamy in front of her.
  • Evil Counterpart: Not evil, but as an Idol Singer, she is extremely spoiled, vain, and rude, in contrast to the sweet and humble Creamy.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Megumi doesn't understand why Creamy seems more loved than her, both by the public and by Tachibana.
  • The Prima Donna: Often acts like an Attention Whore who thinks she deserves more fame and love than Creamy.
  • The Rival: Has a one-sided rivalry with Creamy, who simply ignores Megumi and is not even trying to compete with her. But Megumi always loses anyway.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: She considers herself more talented than Creamy, and every time she assumes that they would finally give her more attention than her rival. It never happens, and Megumi is always sidelined when Creamy is around.
  • Tsundere: To Tachibana. She is clearly in love with him, but she is not above slapping him when he makes her angry.

     Hayato Kidokoro
Voiced by: Sukekiyo Kameyama

The manager of both Creamy and Megumi.

  • Butt-Monkey: He is very bumbling and hopelessly trying to get into Tachibana's good graces, but always ends up as the victim.
