Main Characters

    Celeste Avadona

Celeste Avadona

A half-angel Valkyrie who originally slew demons on behalf of the Elysian order, but later turns against them and becomes a demon when they betray her.
  • Character Class System: She and Riliane are the only ones to be able to change their class.
    • Her prologue class, the Half-Angel, has high growths in every stat along with several physical skills, light-based offensive magic, and healing skills. The class's main weaknesses are that she specializes in only the light element and that she can't learn skills bought with soul essence. This class can be regained by climbing the Forgotten Tower.
    • The Dark Mage can learn several fire, ice, and ailment spells, but has low defense and HP.
    • The Fallen Knight is durable and mainly focuses on elemental physical-based skills.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She hates fish due to nearly being killed by the Kraken in the past.
  • Due to the Dead: When interacting with a human corpse, Celeste has the option to give them a requiem and bring their soul peace, which lowers her corruption while hurting her due to her demonic nature. If she becomes a half-angel again, she'll do this automatically, but the damage is replaced by a healing effect.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: The main party members all have romantic interest in her. The harpies also state they find her attractive.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Even on a low-corruption run, Celeste will have to kill a lot of humans, though she'll still hold a requiem for their souls.
  • Karma Meter: Celeste has a corruption level that increases or decreases based on her actions. Even minor Pet the Dog and Kick the Dog actions can slightly affect her corruption level. If Celeste lowers her corruption level to 0, she can become a half-angel again and regain Gungnir.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Even if she becomes a half-angel again, Celeste realizes that she may be considered a hero in the short term for defeating Marian, but the world may eventually consider her a nuisance or symbol of fear. She also doesn't consider herself a heroine, due to no longer seeing the conflict as black and white. Despite that, she states that she needs to defeat Marian because he's definitely a villain.
  • Light Is Good: For her, it is. While being born or created as an angel doesn't require you to be a good person, redeeming herself and becoming a Half-Angel again requires her to consistently do the morally right thing, as well as avoiding corrupting acts.
  • Messianic Archetype: On the good path, she reveals that she's the daughter of the equivalent of God, and purifying her own soul relies on purifying others'.
  • Pungeon Master: Examining many of the objects in the game will get a pun out of her.
  • Pure Is Not Good: Played with. Celeste starts the game with a pure enough heart to wield Gungnir, but while she has good intentions, she doesn't realize the Elysian Order isn't really as good as she thought. Averted if she lowers her corruption to 0 while losing her naïveté about the conflict between Elysian Order and the demons.
  • A Taste of Power: In the prologue, Celeste is higher than endgame levels and is strong enough to defeat a fully-powered Malayna in a Duel Boss battle. After Marian steals her power and Malayna revives her, Celeste will start at level 1 in a weaker class.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: After becoming a demon, her hair turns white, but how black-hearted she is depends on the player's choices.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: She can power herself up by using Soul Essence taken from the dead, or feed stolen souls to her monster allies to spawn more.

    Riliane d'Elphegort

Riliane d'Elphegort

An Elysian priestess, who defects from the order after seeing Marian's true colors.
  • Broken Pedestal: Riliane will turn on Celeste should she decide to kill the little girl the bandits are holding hostage, claiming Celeste can't be the same person she once idolized.
  • Character Class System: She and Celeste are the only ones to be able to change their class.
    • Her Priestess class has the best array of healing spells in the game and some light spells. It can only be activated when she has a normal staff equipped.
    • Her Dark Priest class sacrifices all of her healing skills for skills that debuff the enemy and dark elemental skills. This can only be activated by equipping the Necromancer or Lich staff, but doing so will lower Riliane's affection towards Celeste.
    • Her Battle Priest class sacrifices her strongest healing spells in exchange for the ability to equip swords and the powerful Flash of Light skill, which can damage and blind enemies. This can only be activated after getting her memento and equippinga sword.
  • Cooldown: Her Flash of Light skill has a 6-turn cooldown to make up for its ability to both damage and blind all enemies.
  • Defector from Decadence: She realizes that Marian is really a selfish power-monger when he steals Celeste's power, causing her to join the party if Celeste spares her. She can also turn on Celeste if the latter does something too cruel, like killing a child hostage.
  • Good Bad Girl: She's not shy about her attraction to Celeste, and certainly doesn't mind wearing frisky underwear for her or sleeping next to her. Unlike Malayna, though, she isn't going to try to force her affections on her beloved.
  • Reincarnation: She turns out to be a reincarnation of Riliane Lucifen d'Autriche, the evil queen of the kingdom of Lucifenia.
  • Only Friend: Claims Celeste is hers ...while calling upon the gods to smite Celeste dead should she needlessly kill a young girl.
  • Verbal Tic: She often ends her statements with "Quite So!"
  • White Magician Girl: She's a kind, pacifistic healer who mostly focuses on the support role. This is averted if the player surrenders to the Arowar paladins, causing Riliane to take up a sword in order to save Celeste.

    Malayna Erundar

Malayna Erundar

The leader of the Arch-Demons, who occupies the Ramarian Keep at the beginning of the game, only to be forced to rest in the Abyss after being defeated by Celeste. When Celeste is about to be killed by Marian, Malayna offers her a second chance at life as a demon.
  • BFS: Her battle sprite shows her wielding a large sword, despite equipping the same weapons as Riliane.
  • Fallen Angel: She was once the Arch-Angel of Valor before taking in the deadly sins and getting exiled by her fellow angels.
  • Handsome Lech: She's quite attractive. Also quite perverted, and not above taking advantage of her prisoners, though she isn't an outright villain.
  • Hero Antagonist: An anti-heroic example. She's the first boss of the game, but she tries to negotiate with Celeste in order to find a peaceful solution to the conflict. Subverted in the bad ending where she wins the duel, since she'll capture Celeste and engage in non-consensual Lecherous Licking.
  • I Just Want My Beloved to Be Happy: If the player tames her three deadly sins without raising her beyond friendship level, she'll accept Celeste's relationship with one of the other main characters.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She's hotheaded and has a jealous streak due to her having the vessels of Gluttony, Envy, and Wrath, but she cares about the welfare of her fellow demons and is maintaining the world's safety by keeping the Abyss's damned souls contained.
  • Mighty Glacier: She's a powerful, but slightly slow physical attacker.
  • Playing with Fire: She has both magical and physical fire skills, some of which can inflict burn.
  • Unknown Rival: For the first half of the game, she can only talk to other demons, meaning Riliane is initially unaware that Malayna is also pining for Celeste.
  • Yandere: If her affection is raised higher than friendship level, but another character's affection is high as well, it's possible to get a bad ending due to her jealousy.

    Gaia Grune

Gaia Grune

Malayna's second-in-command, who helps Celeste adjust to her life as a demon while giving her advice about the main quest.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She has ample assets, which are apparently common to succubi. It's said that she won battles just because soldiers were distracted by her chest.
  • Fallen Angel: She was once the Arch-Angel of Compassion being taking in the deadly sins of Lust and Pride.
  • Freudian Excuse: She detests humans due to being abused by a human who summoned her. That human, Abelard, also cheated on his wife, Landra, by demanding sex from Gaia, but then killed Landra when he caught Gaia showing romantic interest in her.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Due to her succubi nature, she's supernaturally attractive to pretty much anyone, often causing people who see her to be momentarily dumbstruck.
  • Ironic Name: Despite her first name, she has no earth elemental spells.
  • Number Two: She's Malayna's right hand and second-in-commander in the Arch-Demons.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: Expresses annoyance at the natural charms of her succubi nature, and dislike being though off as a Lust Object.
  • The Strategist: The player has the option to let her handle TRPG segments, and she can also give the player advice on how to play these segments.
  • Succubi and Incubi: She's a succubus Arch-Demon, but despite having the vessel of lust, she isn't as openly lustful as traditional succubi. She detests loveless relationships and is reluctant to start a relationship if she thinks it could lead to consequences for those around her.
  • Tsundere: She uses "I'm not doing this because I like you!" right before her first healing kiss with Celeste. It's quite apparent that she's enjoying the lip-lock a little more than on a strictly-business level, though.
  • Whip of Dominance: She's a strict and authoritative succubi commander who wields a whip in battle, and most of them can inflict bleeding or stun. The kinky implications of the whip don't help with people seeing her as the kinky type of succubus, despite her not being one.

Allies

    Archimedes Fiones
A knight in the Elysian Order who knocked out Celeste at the beginning of the game on Marian's orders, which he later regrets.
  • Back Stab: He has a skill named Backstab, which deals extra damage to surprised or staggered enemies. The second fight with Alastar is scripted so that Archimedes starts on the enemy's side, only to literally backstab Alastar and join the player.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Archimedes attempts to flirt with Celeste in the prologue, though he doesn't fit the chivalrous part until he atones for his betrayal towards Celeste.
  • Fragile Speedster: Archimedes is a knife-wielder who focuses on speed and subterfuge over defense.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Archimedes gets to join the party while Alexei only fights in cutscenes.
  • Heel–Face Turn: If Celeste gets imprisoned in Arowar, Archimedes will either help her break out or help Riliane break Celeste out.

    Alexei Anderson
A knight in the Elysian Order who initially aided Celeste against the Demon Lord but did nothing as she was betrayed. He feels guilt for this.
  • Good Counterpart: Alexei turns out to be this to Marian. Both have shades of being religious fundamentalists and believe demons are Always Chaotic Evil. However, Alexei is willing to admit to his mistakes and learn his enemy's side of the story while Marian only trusts his own judgment and never questions his own actions or the church's teachings.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Alexei will help hold off the cultists so that Celeste can destroy the Inhibitor machine.
  • Hot-Blooded: Alexei is normally stoic, but he becomes more bombastic when it comes to fighting demons and later Marian's forces.

    Slimes
A once docile species that turned hostile because of their water supply being polluted.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: One option to gain the Slime Queen's aid is to offer Riliane to the slimes as food. The other option is to defeat the Slime Queen in battle.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: An anonymous slime can be summoned as an ally.
  • Making a Splash: All of them are water elemental, making them weak to thunder.

    Slime Queen
The ruler of the slimes who wishes the best for her people.
  • The High Queen: Despite her initial antagonistic role, she looks out for her subjects and is very friendly to the heroines if spared.

    Girtablilu
A village of scorpion girls led by Scheherazade.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: Their stinger tails can inflict paralysis.
  • Good All Along: The reason they attacks humans when they get too close to the village is because they doesn't want humans to catch a disease that drives males insane and kills females.
  • Was Once a Man: All of them were once human girls who had to fuse with scorpions to become demons in order to gain immunity to a disease.

    Scheherazade
The matriarch of the Girtabulu.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: She has a single earth spell, Quake.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Unlike with the other monster tribes, their leader, Scheherazade, will join as a temporary party member. If the player sacrificed Riliane at the start of the game, Scheherazade will substitute for her in the Final Boss fight.
  • Was Once a Man: She was once Sharon, the daughter of the mayor of Savia.

    Harpies
A demon species in the Abyss that Malayna needs to negotiate with.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: An anonymous harpy can be summoned as a party member.
  • Truly Single Parent: They can lay eggs despite being an all-female species. The egg can use other lifeforms as incubators though, which can change them genetically.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Malayna's plan to gain the harpies' trust is to have her and Celeste act as a couple, which would prove to the harpies that they have a powerful ally that will allow them to reclaim the Ramarian Keep. If Malayna is not the actual chosen love interest, Amorōnagu will chastise Malayna for trying to fake their relationship, though she'll still form an alliance.

    Alraune
A species of plant girls who live south of Gruhnwal.
  • Combat Medic: In addition to having high stats and decent offensive skills, the guest alraune can use healing magic. The ones in tactics battles can also heal allied units.
  • Green Aesop: While all the allied monster tribes other than the harpies also side with the player for their environmental interests, the alraune will quiz the player and will join if the player picks environmentally friendly answers.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: An anonymous alraune can be summoned as a party member.

Elysian Order

    Cardinal Alfredus Marian

Alfredus Marian

The leader of the Elysian Order, who seeks to gain power at any cost so that he can bring order to Laetitia.
  • 0% Approval Rating: The populations of the towns you conquer consider him a terrible ruler for taking away their freedoms and polluting their lands to the point where they can't crops. The Slimes, Alraunes, and Girtablilus hate him for poisoning their lands, and can be recruited to fight against his army.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: In the endgame, he attempts to marry the princess of Marlon to take control of her land.
  • Big Bad: No matter which route the player takes, their goal is to stop Marian from Taking Over The World and destroying its balance.
  • Ecocidal Antagonist: Cardinal Alfredus Marian is obsessed with producing more military weapons to maintain his rule over Laetitia and sate his paranoia, even at the cost of the environment. As a result, his people suffer through famine and the various monster species suffer from environmental pollution. This got to the point where one of his factories caused a disease through sheer pollution, forcing many of the humans of Savia Village to convert themselves into a new monster species just to survive. As a result, the sapient monster species and even many humans join Celeste's rebellion against him.
  • Fallen Hero: Some of the citizens state he used to be a good leader before his paranoia caused him to prioritize military might over his people's well-being.
  • Final Boss: He's fought on the day of his arranged wedding with the princess of Marlon. The battle starts as a Duel Boss battle between Celeste and Marian, but once the latter uses his full power, the rest of the party will step in to even the playing field.
  • Hate Sink: Marian is the tyrannical leader of the Elysian Order. A racist who despises demons, he has his minions exterminate them, and kicks off the game by betraying heroine Celeste Avadona and stealing her powers. Throughout the game, we see how his industrial and military expansion brings mass pollution, famine, and suffering to the various monster tribes. He also treats his allies with contempt, brainwashes one of his minions into becoming a suicide bomber, and insists he is protecting his people despite the damage his incompetence is doing.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Combined with Final Boss Preview. If the player chooses to invade Arowar, Celeste will attempt to fight Marian by herself. After a few turns, Marian will use a One-Hit Kill light spell to win, though the story continues without a game over.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: His worries about political betrayals and enemy invaders aren't entirely unfounded. The game's setting is based on Evillious Chronicles, which means it has a history of political treachery and warfare. However, his own betrayal of his allies, his warmongering policies, and his neglect of his people's welfare means he's no better than the tyrants responsible for Laetitia's past strife.
  • Knight Templar: He wants to bring peace to Laetitia by stealing the Valkyrie's power and starting an industrial revolution to gain military power, believing that demons and other countries need to be kept in check through these means. Despite his policies' harmful effects on the environment and agriculture, he believes that industrialization is necessary to protect his people from invasion, even as they're starving from terrible famines. He also believes he's the only one worthy of having such power, and that others would betray him and misuse their power.
  • Mirror Boss: Due to stealing Celeste's power at the beginning of the game, he has access to light-based spells. He also has access to skills from her Dark Mage class, such as Acumen, fire spells, and ice spells. This ensures that no matter what class Celeste fights him in, he can either target her elemental weakness or at least deal neutral damage.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: Despite claiming that his industrial revolution will provide a military that can protect his people from invaders, he ignores that the pollution from his policies is causing a famine and is aggravating local monster species. He refuses to address this issue even when confronted by Celeste, due to being tunnel-visioned into thinking military power takes precedence over all other aspects of governing. Additionally, his paranoia causes him to betray allies such as Celeste and Riliane's mother, just because he suspects they could harm him or threaten his power. In reality, his excessive industrialization and theft of Celeste's power are more to make him feel safe rather than to actually keep his people safe.
  • The Paranoiac: The developer states that Alfredus is a self-centered person who doesn't trust anyone but himself. He refuses to accept that his policies are doing more harm than good, is convinced that foreign nations and demonkind are going to threaten his countries, and doesn't want anyone having more power than him. Even his allies are treated with condescension at best, since he constantly doubts their ability to serve his agenda. Despite Celeste starting with no doubts about the Elysian Order, he still steals her power because he's that afraid of the off-chance that she betrays him, which becomes a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy when she survives his attempt to kill her. As the developer puts it, he's more afraid of harm caused by imaginary enemies than the real harm he causes to others.
  • Underestimating Badassery: On the neutral route, he doesn't fight as seriously because he thinks Celeste is too weak to warrant his full power. If Celeste becomes more powerful from the good or evil route, Marian recognizes her as a Worthy Opponent and holds nothing back in his boss fight.
  • Turns Red: In his boss fight, he'll gain an aura and become stronger after taking enough damage in a duel with Celeste, though his aura color and shape, elements used, and overall strength differs depending on the route taken.
