Leonia

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/leonia.png

Located in the east of Forsena. The land is led by Queen Lyonesse. The land here is very fertile, filled with grasslands and forests. The whole country is protected by a large mountain range that extends from Castle Damas to Castle Hadrian. Their flag is colored aquamarine.

Tropes associated with Leonia in general:

  • Almost Kiss: Leonia's ending has Kiloph confessing to Lyonesse. In Grand Edition, the scene is building up to The Big Damn Kiss, and then Asmit walks in.
  • Light Is Good: All those white magic users and the Knights are all kind hearted people.
  • Love Dodecahedron: Kiloph likes Lyonesse, Baleen likes Kiloph, Galonwand likes Baleen, and then Kiloph thinks Lyonesse likes Asmit. It gets resolved towards the end.
  • Magikarp Power: The nation as a whole: They are basically the weakest starting country, with no Lv 20 monsters, only one Level 20 Knight (Paternus) and one Expert second-tier character (Isfas) to babysit the multitudes of low-leveled project knights abundant in this country, including their own ruler, it's a country majorly filled with white mages and healers, giving them little offensive options (and one of their offensive options is... the rather lacking Langueborg) and having no alliance (unlike New Almekia and Caerleon). Given enough time to exist, however, they can grow into a very powerful force of good, and those low leveled knights and their ruler will start kicking back hard.
  • Planet of Hats: The kingdom of White Mages. Which makes it challenging to play as them.

    Lyonesse

Lyonesse (Voiced by Yuri Shiratori)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1567780131332.jpg
Class: Queen

Ruler of Leonia. A former peasant girl seeing an oracle from the Gods and destined to become the Queen to the religious country. She's kind and loving, but sometimes felt unsure of herself. She prefers not to fight, but when threatened, she would fight as necessary.

  • Jeanne d'Archétype: Hearing Voices of Gods eventually made her a Queen, similarly to the Trope Namer.
  • Hearing Voices: Seeing an oracle to become Queen was not the end, though. She tends to get further visions of the future, like in GE, when she saw a vision of a destroyed Forsena just shortly before the battle against Bulnoil.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: When forced into combat, she's capable of attacking with her holy White magic.
  • Magikarp Power: Though not as extreme as Lance, Lyonesse is a Level 3 Queen and when raised, will become extremely powerful for White Mage standards.
  • Puppet Queen: Not in the Story Mode, no. But in a latter Multiplayer scenario, after Norgard conquered Leonia, Vaynard lets her live and 'rules' Leonia as a figurehead ruler, although she's not playable.
  • Technical Pacifist: Lyonesse is a kind and peaceful Queen, but the whole arc of Leonia is pretty much her having no choice but to fight.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female ruler.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Steel-willed and loving, and will absolutely take no threats against her country well, as shown with Vaynard.
  • White Mage: Lyonesse is all about healing and White Magic, which makes her a good damage dealer against black units, if they didn't get to her first.

    Kiloph

Kiloph (Voiced by Koichi Tochika)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715908202_57ff77807e.jpg
Class: Barbarian

Lyonesse's childhood friend who's been with her since her peasant days, and followed her when she became Queen. He is obviously in love with Lyonesse, but has troubles in spitting it out and is easily jealous at other competition (such as Asmit).

  • Cannot Spit It Out: It takes a nudge from Baleen to make him finally confess to Lyonesse.
  • Childhood Friends: And a victorious one too for Lyonesse.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: He starts out as a Barbarian and more likely going to be the frontline fighter for Lyonesse being the mage.
  • I Just Want to Be You: To Lyonesse.
  • Imaginary Love Triangle: Kiloph thinks Lyonesse has feelings for Asmit, and storms off when Lyonesse says she likes Asmit. However, Lyonesse later clears it up and explains that she likes everyone in Leonia and thus likes Asmit, Paternus, Langueborg, etc.
  • Magikarp Power: He's starts as a Level 3 Barbarian and has very poor accuracy from the start, but he can grow into a very powerful frontline Rune Knight if persistently trained, not to mention he's free to choose any physical class to your likings. Kiloph is by far one of the most potent, moldable, physical-oriented (because he has low INT score) 'Project Knights' available in the game.
  • Punch-Clock Hero: Not in the main story, but on Multiplayer Scenario 3, he'll offer his services to whoever takes one castle from Norgard first. Not surprising after what Vaynard did to Lyonesse there (turning her into a Puppet Queen).
    • Took a Level in Badass: And in that mode and scenario, when he's recruited, he's a Level 20 Avenger. Whether he became desperate and almost consumed with his hatred against Vaynard for what he did to Lyonesse or it's just the ultimate class of the Barbarian-Berserker class tree and thus a natural progression of his training are a little ambiguous, but one thing for sure, Kiloph came out WAY stronger than when he was with Leonia.

    Paternus

Paternus (Voiced by Tetsuo Komura)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715909404_2ed3844419.jpg
Class: Cardinal

The Cardinal of Leonia who advises Lyonesse in political stuffs unfamiliar to them. A wise father figure to most Leonian Knights.

  • Cool Old Guy: One of the oldest men in Leonia and all around cool.
  • Church Militant: He is a powerful bishop who is the highest leveled character in the Kingdom of Leonia.
  • Crutch Character: An example that is used very well and doesn't get irrelevant as the game goes on: Paternus is pretty much the main guy that protects Leonia as he's high leveled and had decent Rune Power, until the Knights of Leonia and the ruler herself, eventually catches up, and he can still keep up with them when that time comes.
  • Parental Substitute: Admits to Chantail that he saw himself as some sort of father figure to Lyonesse, and his soul kinda died a little whenever he saw Lyonesse go to battle.
  • Religious Bruiser: In battle, he is outspoken about his devotion to God, being uttrely furious at King Dryst's Blasphemous Boast.
  • Team Dad: Of Leonia.

    Asmit

Asmit (Voiced by Kazuhiro Nakata)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4961971800_d2def091f6.jpg
Class: Bishop

Otherwise known as 'Mr. Perfect'. A dedicated and serious vassal of Leonia. While he advises Lyonesse with much competence, he's completely oblivious of Kiloph's increasing jealousy at him, though he doesn't think about any romantic feelings about Lyonesse.

    Galonwand

Galonwand (Voiced by Hiroki Takahashi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715268693_9afe336db6.jpg
Class: Barbarian

A friend of Lyonesse and Kiloph, he arrived at Leonia together with Baleen to become knights, stating that he wants to serve Lyonesse as well but actually he only followed Baleen just to protect her. He is also waiting for a moment to confess his feelings for Baleen who was also has feelings for Kiloph.

  • Art Evolution: He has a different portrait in Legend of Forsena, with spiky hair. His current new portrait is as shown in the picture on the side.
  • I Just Want to Be You: To Baleen.

    Baleen

Baleen (Voiced by Yumiko Suzuki)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715909432_81dfa9f3ef.jpg
Class: Scout

A friend of Lyonesse and Kiloph, claimed that she followed to serve as a knight for Lyonesse. In a certain scene later in the game (GE) she will admit that she joined knighthood just to be near Kiloph whom she is in love with.

  • Green-Eyed Monster: She has... issues with Lyonesse getting all of Kiloph's attention when she herself is all heels over Kiloph.
  • Guys Smash, Girls Shoot: Depending on the class path you choose, Baleen can be one with Galonwand.
  • I Just Want to Be You: To Kiloph
  • Magikarp Power: She is only a level 1 scout with low rune power at the start but it hides her high rune power growth and her class promotions will turn her into a powerful archer that can hit enemies at 4 hexes away.

    Isfas

Isfas (Voiced by Kiyoyuki Yanada)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715268061_18bb8f69d0.jpg
Class: Monk

  • Big Brother Instinct: To Kiloph and Lyonesse.
  • Gentle Giant: He doesn't look like he's this from his portrait, but his bio said he has an imposing figure. And he's into gardening and planting flowers.
  • Martial Pacifist: While a gentle person at heart, his profile states he's a giant of a man and he is one of the few high leveled rune knights in Leonia.
  • War Is Hell: His battle conversation with Vaynard:
Isfas: A flower that takes years to grow turns to ash in a flash of war. War destroys everything, why do you want ashes and death?
Vaynard: You misunderstand, I work to revive hope from the ashes.
Isfas: Only sorrow comes from ashes. Don't you see?
    Vaynard: ....I do not agree.
Isfas: ..... Then I must stop you.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He had a special dialogue when fighting side by side with Charlene. But if Leonia is defeated and they meet again in the battlefield as enemies, Isfas will express remorse that he's doomed the moment he chose to continue to fight, but asks that Charlene doesn't hold back.

    Raizen

Raizen (Voiced by Mitsuaki Hoshino)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715910698_6b1a1d8c71.jpg
Class: Monk

  • The Atoner: He makes no excuses for his role in killing a sparing partner during training.

    Charlene

Charlene (Voiced by Wu Lin Takumi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715911634_b8e7982fba.jpg
Class: Lancer

  • Action Girl: The only female melee rune knight in Leonia and she has the guts to deliver a What the Hell, Hero? to the likes of Zemeckis.
  • An Ice Person: Subverted: Charlene has 'ice' written all over her: She's known as "Snow Crystal of Leonia" and comes with the Ice Javelin... But she cannot cast any ice spells.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Zig-zagged. She will still join your country because she wanted to protect Leonia further... but normally you'll have to see Leonia defeated by someone else to happen. Or you're playing as Norgard in Grand Edition and beat Leonia yourself because the other candidate, Langueborg, has a distaste towards Norgard. Of course, she won't join Esgares.
  • Religious Bruiser: Is shown displaying her devotion to God in her conversations between Guinglain and Zemeckis.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Between 'former allies fighting each other after their default country was defeated', Charlene is the only Knight that has two of them, against Isfas and Langueborg. She's much more remorseful when up against Isfas, but not so much when against Langueborg.

    Filo

Filo (Voiced by Yuriko Fuchizaki)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715266481_d0cc787fa9.jpg
Class: Cleric

  • Punny Name: Her and her fellow cleric Sophia's names combined forms the word "Philosophy".

    Sophia

Sophia (Voiced by Michiko Neya)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715909062_4b47a1100b.jpg
Class: Cleric

  • Punny Name: Her and her fellow cleric Filo's names combined forms the word "Philosophy".

    Chantail

Chantail (Voiced by Kohei Kowada)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715267369_685323b627.jpg
Class: Wizard

A strict court magician of Leonia who's Doting Parent to his baby son.

  • Defeat Means Friendship: He will join your nation if you beat Leonia, because someone has got to protect the children. Unless you're Esgares in Grand Edition.

    Langueborg

Langueborg (Voiced by Yuji Kishi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715908642_53ca31bb60.jpg
Class: Cavalier

He calls himself "The Brain". Originally from Norgard, but he left when Vaynard took over the throne. He didn't think Vaynard had the ability to make a good King. He always bothers Queen Lyonesse with suggestions that have no meaning.

  • Defeat Means Friendship: He will join your nation if you beat Leonia, still thinking that he could use his 'genius' to bring glory to whatever he sides in. Of course, he won't join Esgares... and Norgard too in Grand Edition.
  • Master of None: He hits on all things of this trope: His Strength is middling, he's a moron with an overinflated ego, and his Rune Power is pitiful for someone his level, which is why he's usually considered one of the worst Knights in Forsena (although some may argue that New Almekia's Brusom was worse, at least he has the excuse of being a Dented Iron, Langueborg hasn't been an old man yet).
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Talks like he's a master strategist but he's basically a moron. His cutscene with Lyonesse has him attempt to give her his masterful battle operation but fails due to Lyonesse unable to read through his poor penmanship. He even had the BALLS to say that he's smarter than Cai (who, in case you don't know, is Forsena's definitive arch mage). In-game, he's a mediocre knight with the lowest runepower in-game.
  • We Used to Be Friends: After Leonia's fall, Langueborg can encounter Charlene as an enemy... where he's still as bombastic as ever about himself, but suddenly cowers when Charlene threatens to cut him down.

    Georg

Georg (Voiced by Yasunori Matsumoto)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/4715268483_598b1e57e7.jpg
Class: Priest
