• The Atoner: Created the Machines that were responsible for a lot of suffering, and is tearing himself apart trying to atone.

• Beware the Nice Ones: Can serve up a cold, calculated dispatching to anything that threatens those he loves.

• Dark and Troubled Past: A very Gothic Figure, it is implied he had a fall from grace that landed him Downstairs.

• Dark Is Not Evil: Wears Black, Looks Like Cesare, and easily one of the nicest characters shown so far.

• Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: a Family Trait

• Gadgeteer Genius: The Grabber and Razor-Spring-trap are the first gadgets to appear, but he has also built the rampant automatons and Aarnan's prothetic arm.

• I Just Want to Have Friends: Is constantly reminded in the beginning of how friendless he is. His "Best Friend" is a Manipulative Bastard too.

• Speech Impediment / Porky Pig Pronunciation: Has t-t-trouble exp-expre- talking when he's f-flu- nervous. Word of God says it was much worse as a child.

• Heroic Sacrifice: Risks his life, and Gets cut up pretty bad rescuing a child from an automaton

• Paralyzing Fear of Sexuality: If his interactions with that prostitute is anything to go by.

• Parental Substitute: Acts like a dad to the Urchins, going so far as to chide them for eating messily and wipe their face, before telling them it's past their bed-time.

• Nice Guy: Feeds orphans, returns wallets, and rescues children from the clutches of Mechanical Abominations.

• Sickly Neurotic Geek / Nerdy Inhaler: His periodic Wheezing due to Victorian Novel Disease brings to mind this trope.

• Nothing but Skin and Bones: a combo of Geek Physiques and Victorian Novel Disease.

• What Is This Thing You Call "Love"? / What Is This Feeling?: Has felt platonic and paternal love before, but Attraction is relatively new to him, and it's seriously messing with his Prudish Victorian Sensibilities.

• Affectionate Nickname: Aarnan calls her "Barf fairy" when she's sick.

• Apron Matron: She seems to be the one the Urchins go to when they need help.

• Fiery Red Head: A Mood-Swinger version, Eliza can go from singing happily to bashing skulls to a protective and nurturing Apron Matron in a matter of minutes.

• The Irish Diaspora: A survivor of the famine, She has come to London in hopes of a better life.

• Mama Bear: Takes on an Automaton with just a Cricket-Bat when she suspects it took one of the Urchins.

• Mood-Swinger: As mentioned under Fiery Red Head Eliza can go from singing happily to bashing skulls to a protective and nurturing Apron Matron in a matter of minutes.

• Politeness Judo: "So this toff says to me "Do you know who I am?" I said "Glad I don't sir, Do ye know who I am?" of course he says no, so I say "That's good fer me Innit?""

• Trickster Irish-Twins sometimes pulls this dynamic with her brother. Downplayed in that they are Irish-Twins that happen to be Irish.

• Vitriolic Best Buds: Her brother and she bicker a lot, but clearly care deeply for one another.

• The Big Guy: Seven feet of Muscle, Copper, Brass, and RAGE!

• The Brute: Not the most refined of the company.

• Fiery Red Head: Of the Hair-Trigger Temper variety. He's thrown men through walls for less than a cross word about his sister.

• Fighting Irish: Always spoiling to throw hands at anyone and everyone.

• Hair-Trigger Temper: Fiery Red Head that he is, the slightest thing will set him off, especially if he thinks he's not being taken seriously.

• Hidden Depths: as much as he likes to fight, he's not a fan of CurbStompBattles or hurting people for fun. You'll notice he prefers to "Win" fights by pinning or lifting his opponent rather than knocking them out. He's also seen happily singing with his brothers in flashbacks.

• Knight Templar Big Brother: Justified in that they run a bar under a brothel in the seediest part of town, and Eliza has been mistaken for one of the Bordello's girls on a few too many occasions.

• Adorably Precocious Child: Finds inventive substitute parts for his Mentor Mr. Thatch, and is Described as the favorite in that regard.

• Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Likes to parrot Mr. Thatch, as if he'd thought of it himself.

• Punny Name: Like all the Urchins

• Ambiguously Gay: Very Flamboyant, but mentions having a late wife, whom he seems to have genuinely loved.

• Blatant Lies: His favorite kind

• Card-Carrying Villain: Whenever someone figures him out, he decides to revel in his villainy.

• Faux Affably Evil: A very False friend, but he has a harder time disguising his lack of empathy.

• False Friend: Will always remind Theo that he's the only friend he's got

• How Dare You Die on Me!: Says this whenever a death would inconvenience him.

• Gas Lighting: one of his favorite tactics, though it helps that Theo is trusting and gullible.

• Love to Hate: His machinations are actually pretty entertaining

• Magnificent Bastard: So suave, So cunning, Such a bastard.

• Sophisticated as Hell: Sometimes his polished veneer slips, revealing something like this

• Token Evil Teammate: Slimy as a slug, but at least nominally on the side of our heroes
