Kung Fu Wa! (天真与功夫袜) is a Chinese Animated Series produced by Tencent and UYoung Media. Originally debuting on August 3, 2021 with an order of 52 eleven-minute episodes, the series is now being distributed internationally (except in China and Latin America) in 2022 by Federation Entertainment.

A long time ago, a legendary Kung-Fu master was in charge of guarding and protecting a legendary scroll. But a mysterious time vortex swept both master and scroll way forward in time, taking the Ancient Scroll with him and transforming him into...a talking sock.

In the present time, an 8-year-old girl named Tee Yang ("TZ" in the English dub) is helping her mother when she stumbles upon the mysterious talking Kung-Fu Master Sock. Being the dreamy girl she is, Tee Yang follows him excitedly until an encounter with a monster known as a "Kwei". But when Tee Yang is about to get eaten by the monster, the sock puts itself on Tee Yang's foot and...she becomes a Magical Kung-Fu Girl! After defeating the monster easily with her new powers, Tee Yang agrees to help the Kung-Fu sock master to find and return all the monsters to the Ancient Scroll.

Kung Fu Wa! provides examples of:

  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: Manipulens, the show's Big Bad, was Kung Fu Sock's apprentice.
  • Birthday Episode: Episode 44 is one for Tee Yang.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: After learning Sword Hero's secret identity as Hao Xiue in episode 25, Manipulens brainwashes him in his sleep and brutally hurts Kung-Fu Girl in the following episode.
  • Break the Cutie: Tee Yang breaks down crying at the very end of episode 27 after the brainwashed Hao Xiue/Sword Hero escapes into the night.
  • Breather Episode: Episodes 30-34 act as this after the events of episode 29. Episode 48 is also one, being focused around several humorous What If? scenarios regarding if other characters found Kung Fu Sock rather than Tee Yang post episode 47.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Tee Yang shouts her attacks like this.
  • Company Cross References: In episode 4, on the school's second blackboard behind the students' desks you can see a doodle of the title character of P. King Duckling, another UYoung series. The same character would make another cameo in episode 5 as a plush, along with Wombat and Chumpkins.
  • Cooldown Hug: What saves the Kung Fu master in the end from being taken over by the dark energy of the Kwei from a tearful Tee Yang causing him to remember the times she protected him knowing the risks and her kindness to him which restores him to his sock form.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: In the lead up to the final battle with Manipulens, Kung Fu Sock, wanting to protect Tee Yang and her friends after having nightmares of losing Tee Yang to his former apprentice, decides to use the power of the Kwei to regain his human form to take on Manipulens even knowing he'll be corrupted by evil energy in the process.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Several of Tee Yang's friends and classmates (including Hao Xiue) are shown in the opening before making their proper debuts in-show.
  • Evil Costume Switch: The brainwashed Sword Hero wears all black in his costume.
  • Feathered Fiend: The seagull gang that Manipulens falls in with after his introduction are very much this. They also act as his minions where required.
  • Fish out of Temporal Water: Kung Fu Sock during the series premiere. He does get acclimated to the present day fairly quickly, however.
  • Forced Transformation: The Kung-Fu master transformed into a sock upon arriving at Tee Yang's home.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Hao Xiue is a Child Prodigy example and one to the point of having his sword be technological in nature (episode 40 shows that it can collapse into a compact disc form) and to the extent of having boobytrapped his own bedroom if there are too many failed attempts to guess his laptop's password.
  • Goggles Do Something Unusual: Manipulens is a pair of cool shades that can Mind Control anyone who wears them.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Hao Xiue as the aptly named Sword Hero.
  • How We Got Here: Episode 28 details how Hao Xiue was corrupted by Manipulens in the previous episode.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Tee Yang/Kung Fu Girl engages in one during episode 29 to help Hao Xiue break free from his corruption by Manipulens, albeit only briefly. Done again in episode 39 sucessfully. Both times are combined with Battleinthe Centerofthe Mind on Hao Xiue's end.
  • I Work Alone: Sword Hero doesn't like Kung Fu Girl helping in battles, thinking that beating the Kwei is his problem even though he can't seal them.
  • Jumped at the Call: Tee Yang immediately decided to help Kung Fu Sock to complete his mission, even before gaining her powers.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: When Manipulens realizes that there's friction between Kung-Fu Girl and Sword Hero due to the latter's loner tendencies, he makes posters announcing a fight between them, making them think that they are challenging each other to a duel, making them fight until Min exposes his ruse.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Both Tee Yang and Kung Fu Sock are subject to this during episode 37 due to that episode's Kwei with a "Leave Your Quest" Test presented to the latter.
  • Magic Skirt: Kung-Fu Girl mainly fights with kicks and does all kinds of acrobatics, but her skirt always stays in place.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: Tee Yang, after becoming Kung-Fu Girl.
  • MacGuffin: The Ancient Scroll is used to seal the Kwei and its gem glows when one is nearby, Manipulens wants it to take control of the Kwei's powers.
  • Mind-Control Eyes: Those brainwashed by Manipulens display a case of this when he casts a glamor on the person he's controlling to divert suspicion.
  • Monster of the Week: The Kwei, evil spirits in the shape of white orbs that can possess objects and living beings.
  • Mundane Utility: Tee Yang uses her powers to get to school faster when she's running late in episode 32.
  • New Transfer Student: Hao Xiue is revealed to have transferred to Tee Yang's class in episode 16 after debuting in episode 15.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Kung Fu Sock is shown to have had flowing blue energy hair when he was human while Tee Yang, when borrowing his power, has her hair turn bright pink when transformed.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: Tee Yang's hair goes from black to pink as Kung Fu Girl.
  • Rainbow Puke: Kung Fu Sock does this briefly in episode 2 due to Tee Yang's rush to get to school.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Manipulens has a red lens in his glasses form after getting the original lens knocked out during episode 12 and getting it replaced after joining the seagull gamg. He also had a red sheen in his irises when he turned to dark magic in his youth before he became Kung Fu Socks's apprentice and in the present day, occasionally displays Hellish Pupils.
  • Secret-Keeper: Min, Tee Yang's friend, becomes this after Tee Yang saves her from a Kwei. By the end of episode 32, one of Tee Yang's classmates, nicknamed Gossip Boy is let in on the secret after witnessing her transformation.
  • Shaking the Rump: Tee Yang does this during her Transformation Sequence to change her regular skirt for her Kung Fu Girl dress.
  • Sick Episode: Episode 33 is this for Tee Yang.
  • Signature Move: Rainbow Cyclone Kick!, Steaming Shadow Kick!, Spongy (Cotton Soft in the UK) Tai Chi Punch!, Soapy Steps & Bubble Double Blast.
  • Soundtrack Dissonance: The cheery upbeat opening and the calm ending contrast sharply when they start off on or cap off intense/more emotional moments especially with episodes 26-29 and later in the series.
  • Start of Darkness: The first three quarters of episode 41 reveals Manipulens' backstory and how he learnt dark magic pre-series.
  • String Theory: Hao Xiue is shown to have made one in regards to sightings of Kung Fu Girl at the end of his introductory episode.
  • Super Natural Martial Arts: Kung-Fu Girl (and by extension Kung-Fu Sock when he had a body) has super strength and agility to use martial arts, but also wield magic to perform attacks using elements.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Downplayed as Tee Yang is more of a Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak but there's no denying that she's more of an Action Girl (with her Establishing Character Moment showing her dreaming of confronting and fighting a monster and one of her methods of relaxation in episode 11 involving skateboarding while being pulled by a neighborhood dog) in comparison to her friend Min who's more of an Action Survivor and mainly relies on her wits when in dangerous situations.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Hao Xiue develops this through and after his corruption by Manipulens, realizes the importance of teamwork and friendship and begins working with Tee Yang/Kung-Fu Girl.
  • Transformation Sequence: Tee Yang goes through this with Kung-Fu Wa as her main source of power, this becomes normal from episode 2, though the call-out to begin this doesn't happen until the next episode. This happens in nearly every episode onwards with some exceptions.
  • Walk on Water: Kung Fu Girl has the ability to do this during episodes when the location of that episode's story is mostly set at sea.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: In the Fishing episode, it's revealed that Tee Yang cannot transform if Kung-Fu Sock Master is wet.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: In episode 9 - Daddy's Gift, it's revealed that Tee Yang's dad is always away at sea, sailing on his boat and catching fish for a living, however, this time, he stays with Tee Yang temporarily before leaving to sea again.
