** Jiango in the second Hellena visit. He's lightning fast, often getting two turns, and will most frequently spam a powerful whole party attack, provided he doesn't inflict Confuse on one or more of your party members. Unlike with Lenus, your party is low level and if you're using [[MagikarpPower Shana]] expect to get pretty thoroughly annihilated.

** Kongol. Slow as all get out, has the magic defense of a wet paper bag, and only has three additions, with the first two giving ridiculously small amounts of SP, making it an absolute ''chore'' to get his Dragoon levels up. If you didn't buy his Dragoon Spirit earlier on, it's doubtful you'd bother leveling it up in the final dungeon.
** If you do get his spirit early and take the time to level up his Additions, he's absolutely unstoppable in a physical fight.
** However, if you manage to loot some Bandit's Rings or shoes during the game, he easily moves into LightningBruiser territory right out of the gate. Add on the Legend Casque if you had the money for it, and he becomes NighInvulnerable.
** Shana and Miranda. While the two undoubtedly have the best dragon attack in the game and can keep the party alive through ''anything'', they do pitiful damage because they lack additions. Their only gimmick is that they can be almost permanently in dragoon form; as their attacks lack additions, their SP is delivered in one bulk package, and it's a higher amount than most additions in the game making it very easy to accumulate levels. In a game where healing can be outclassed easily, they're just not worth the effort for some. However, [[GameBreaker magic is overpowered in this game]] and they have the best magic attack stats, beating 2nd place Meru by nearly 50%.

Her hometown is razed to the ground just to capture her, she gets broken out of prison but she has these strange powers she has no understanding of, the guy she likes keeps constantly rejecting and ignoring her feelings, she gets poisoned and is given a Dragoon Spirit so she can survive which she then loses shortly after the guy she likes returns her feelings and she can't travel with him anymore, she ends up kidnapped and finds out that her powers are designed to bring the end of the world as we know it and may have to be killed to stop it from happening. Thankfully, she doesn't have to be and gets a happy ending.

** Shana and Miranda. While the two have [[AwesomeYetPractical undoubtedly the best dragon attack in the game]] and can pretty much keep the party alive through ''anything'', they do pitiful damage due to their lack of additions, and that's literally their ''only'' gimmick is that they can be almost permanently in dragoon form. In a game where healing can be outclassed easily, they're just not worth the effort for some.

* AlasPoorVillain: Greham.
** Emperor Doel.
* BaseBreaker: Miranda. To half the fandom she's TheScrappy, to the other half she's an emotionally compelling BrokenBird.
* ClicheStorm: Notably though, plenty of tropes are subverted and deconstructed instead of played straight.
* CompleteMonster: Fruegal, the sadistic warden of Hellena Prison.
* CriticalDissonance: While critics had mixed feelings about the game, the gamers' opinion was, and still is, significantly greater.
* FanPreferredCouple: Dart and Rose, who get scores of [[ShipTease tease lines]] and romantic interludes (especially in Disc 2).
* FreudWasRight: Rose's "Astral Drain" and "Demon's Gate" spells. Yes, this ''can'' be non-phallic. On top of that, all of Rose's Additions read off like an S&M fan's wet dream. "Whip Smack", "More and More", "Hard Blade", and even "Demon's Dance" to a degree.
** Rose's voice actor not only says the names of her additions, but throws a single word into the longer ones as well. That word is [[MoodDissonance die]].
* ItWasHisSled: If you’re reading this page, chances are you already know everything in the spoilers.
* MagnificentBastard: Lloyd.
* NeedsMoreLove: [[http://www.gamespot.com/pages/profile/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25711337&user=NuKkU In a GameStop user's Top Ten Most Underrated Video Games of All Time blog]], the game is ranked #1. Despite being a two-million unit seller, the game has only recently been uploaded to the PlayStation Store, and even then, it was only in Japan until May 1 of 2012.
* ReplacementScrappy: Miranda is usually seen as this, for replacing Shana. It's not simply because they liked the character she replaces better (Albert also is a replacement for Lavitz), but more that Miranda joins in disc 3, and doesn't get enough screentime when the plot ''really'' starts to get in motion, giving people the impression she was tacked on in mid-development.
* {{Squick}}: The ShipTease moments between Dart and Rose, considering that Dart's already committed to Shana, Rose is [[spoiler: [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld Really Eleven Thousand Years Old]]]] and she used to the fiancee of [[spoiler: Dart's dad]].
* TearJerker: The CallBack in the ending movie to a conversation between Dart and Lavitz.
* ThatOneBoss: Lenus is the biggest example the first time you face her because the number of attacks she gets increases the more damage you deal, and she will spam her powerful magical attacks if you intentionally turtle.
* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: Bears some very slight similarities to the megahit ''FinalFantasyVII'', released two years prior. It's generally agreed that these are superficial in nature, since ''Legend of Dragoon'''s storyline and characters are radically different.
* TierInducedScrappy: Kongol.
** If you do get his spirit early and take the time to level up his Additions, [[MagikarpPower he's absolutely unstoppable in a physical fight]].
** However, if you manage to loot some Bandit's Rings or shoes during the game, he easily moves into LightningBruiser territory right out of the gate. Add on the Legend Casque if you had the money for it, and he becomes NighInvulnerable.
** Shana and Miranda. * TooCoolToLive: [[spoiler: Lavitz.]]
