WebAnimation You will fall in Love At First Watch
Oh my GOD, this series is cute beyond belief and totally hysterical. There’s two main reasons for this: a) Lucas is drawn absolutely adorable and b) the spot-on voice acting by the animator’s young nephew. The animated Lucas is a very young, fuzzy, huggable jumping spider who gets into small misadventures as he introduces the viewers to his world. The shorts seamlessly blend animation with the real-world of the animator’s home, and are totally, squeeably heartwarming and funny.
Have I mentioned how much I love this series?
Even if you’re an arachnophobe (as I am), you will love these little videos.
WebAnimation Too saccharine for me
I need to clarify that I don't think it's an awful series. It's well-animated, and Lucas has a great design that manages to look appealing while still looking like a real spider.
But the series is just... really corny.
It's just a little kid doing little kid stuff. That's it. Very little conflict or anything.
If there was a mature adult character to play off of Lucas (like in the Pixar films), or some dark, scary, or sad themes to balance out the cutesy stuff (like in Bambi and the Don Bluth films), I'd probably like the series a lot more. If cutesy kid stuff is your thing, you'll probably like this series fine.
Despite my criticism, I still look forward to the upcoming TV series. Who knows? Maybe they'll fix the above-mentioned criticisms by adding more mature adult characters.
