VideoGame Four years and $400,000 for this piece of trash?
Graphics: The first thing you'll see that's wrong with the game. There's the bright, garish colors, freakish and uniform character designs that are only distinguished by hair and clothes like Barbie dolls, and poor rendering all around.
Music: Or lack thereof. Expect a handful of trite techno songs, including the obligatory gothic chanting. It never lends to the atmosphere even once, and none are memorable.
Gameplay: Stolen from Mega Man Battle Network, Heavy Rain, and Mass Effect and then run through a filter so any kind of fun or enjoyment's removed. Combat is slow and tedious as you wait for your weak gun to recharge after every sluggish shot, and even the QT Es do very little damage for the amount of effort you have to put in them. Combat also happens at fixed points in the plot, so no chance of grinding to make fights easier. The moral choices and QT Es you do don't influence the plot in the slightest up until the very end of the game, but the endings are all pretty similar and just based on several variables, most of which only influencing very small things. Chrono Trigger this isn't.
Characterization: Nonexistent. Pretty much everyone only has two personality settings: being a bitchy hardass and a bitchy smartass. The heroine Holiday is the worst though, because thanks to the massive gulf between her Professional and Rogue dialogue options she can be wildly hypocritical. A good game would've had her moral alignment influence all her dialogue, rather than just what she says right after any of your choices.
Story: Confusing as all hell. Even after playing the game I have little understanding of what happened aside from it involving nanomachines, a space station, brainwashing, and an assassin whose specialty is "vehicular combat"... in a game with only one non-interactive vehicle section. As said before, your actions have next to no influence on the story until the end (and even then barely any at all).
False Advertising: Holy hell. This game was described as saying "choice is your weapon", but as said before you barely have any impact on how the plot unfolds. This isn't like Heavy Rain where things can get knocked off their rails and go in wildly different directions.
In summary, don't buy. Just watch a longplay on youtube and you'll get pretty much the same experience.
VideoGame A pretty bad vanity project
Believe it or not... I actually like the sarcastic quips and humor that the characters in this game say. It's over the top but well, it's still funny.
But that's the only good thing I can say about this game. The graphics are terribly dated, sharing more in common with Reboot than what you'd expect from Unreal Engine. The textures are all over the place and over-used making it a neon eyesore. Brianna Wu has spent a great deal of time promising updates to the visuals but... the problem goes much deeper than that. The body types of all the characters are exactly the same - huge breasts, nonexistent waists, tall and skinny and just this side of Uncanny Valley. The only other characters you'll see are some modified Stormtroopers (Snow Leopards???). Again, something that was said to be corrected in future ports of the game but not the biggest issue Revolution 60 has. And yes, there is a lot of sexy sashaying by Holiday. (Who, along with some of the other characters, came full cloth from Wu's college days bashing Sorority sisters.)
What makes Revolution 60 so bad? The plot is centered around some giant superweapon... I think, put together by some evil group... maybe, and something about Nanonmachines that are both dangerous and a common sight in Rev 60's universe. And insect modifications. Also the main characters work for Chessboard? Which is another not-so-secret non-government group. Also Geisha cyborgs?
A lot of understanding what's going on within the game relies on supplementary material which is purchased separate from the game. Keyword there being purchase. The rest you have to pick up through conversations and ignore the World Salad of scientific and made-up terms explaining the universe.
The music itself isn't terrible; a mixture of some really basic techno that aside from one track fades into the background.
Combat is based around Quick-Time Events and tapping in the right manner. It's not the most intuitive but it's not the worst I've seen either. It's just not rewarding, nor anything other than repetitive. Along with the constant walking through hallways which makes up the rest of the game.
It's clear that the team put a lot of love into this game but... I expect it was more something the creators enjoyed than something meant for a wide audience. Points for effort, but don't buy it.
