This game definitely brought possibilities to the table. I actually enjoyed the story and mechanics of it, and some of the EX Fusions had pretty cool designs to them. My favorites among them are Karoly, Karoly Black, Bulpan, Whirus, Janembu, Arale 18, Celluza, Pandel, Damira, and EX Trunks.
That being said, there are still a few problems.
For one, it feels like they got lazy with the English translations as sometimes the wrong word is used or the sentences just randomly cut off. It’s more noticeable with some of the character bios where you have male characters referred to as female and vice-versa. I've only played the version bought from Nintendo EShop, so I don't know if this problem persists in the physical copy.
Speaking of characters, I feel like they could’ve gotten away with half as many of those OC ones (though I do like the designs and backstories of some of them), as it just makes the roster feel needlessly bloated.
Another thing that bugs me a bit is the EX Fusion character Cell 17, which visually is the fusion of Cell and Super 17, yet Android 17 is used instead. I don’t know how they managed to screw that one up.
Also, there seems to be somewhat of a lack of post-game content. When you get all the characters unlocked, there is almost nothing else to do. I know there's that 100-round arena, but still.
Overall, Dragon Ball Fusions is interesting and has a lot of potential. I actually would like to see a sequel made, which could be doable considering how much the list of characters to add has expanded greatly, but the creators would need to address the flaws in the first one. I feel like this game doesn’t get too much attention compared to Xenoverse and FighterZ, partly because it is only available on Nintendo 3DS. A way of promoting it could be if the Dragon Ball Super TCG ever added some of the characters, now that would be amazing to see. If people ever get a chance to play this game, they should try it out.
VideoGame An interesting game with potential, though not without flaws
