I love the concept, with Marshall as Brooks' killing urges, but it suffers for being planned as the first of a trilogy. There's just too many plot lines for a single movie, half of which never go anywhere, because they were intended to be hooks for the sequels. It needed at least two less plot strings to really be the strongest movie it could have been. A lesson not to assume you've got a trilogy without a contract to back it up.
Film Too much for one movie
