The only thing I liked about it was kid Arthuria's and Shirou's cute interactions, as well as the characters of Kay and Sir Ector, that's it.
Arthurian Legend consists of multiple characters, all contributing to make Camelot a vibrant and alive world, but this is discarded to become Shirou's world now, all about him and him alone and revolving around him (and of the Ensemble Cast we are left with the obligatory Nasuverse Arthurian characters but also tons of original characters I do not care about). "Shirou time travelling to Camelot" are usually Fandom-Specific Plot fics about Shirou trying to help Artoria avoid her fate, and therefore they are usually both of importance to the story. Not this time, however, as Artoria gets sidelined from her own legend as Shirou is a Spotlight-Stealing Squad. Any new additions made by the author to the Arthurian Britain setting and to the Nasuverse part of it is to serve as a means for more Character Shilling of Shirou, not make a more interesting setting/world or story. Ashton? Can't be just Shirou borrowing an identity for a Conveniently Unverifiable Cover Story, it has to make him heir to a magical dynasty and give him a special magical beast. Nibelungenlied elements? Just there to turn Shirou into Siegfried, but without his Achilles' Heel this time, and give him Norse power-ups.
The Ashton was already a sign of things to come, but by the time Caliburn says Shirou is worthy to be king same as Artoria is the moment it is made clear the plot won't stop bending around him. And that's a shame.
Fanfic A simple premise losing the plot
