Purple is a sweet little continuation of Ib's story. Taking place after the "Promise of Reunion" ending, it does a good job at keeping the characters in character, and there's also some really neat world-building going on. This fanfic goes out of its way to explain how things work that were left vague in the game. There's even an explanation for why a painting of Ib's parents appeared in the gallery in the game proper. (That explanation is...upsetting.)
The illustrations provided with the story also help its mood. They're simple, expressive, and striking, and so stick in your head easily. I admit though, I didn't make much use of the Virtual Soundtrack, as I found clicking on external links in the middle of reading to be distracting.
The ending could have done with being a little less vague. From the final confrontation with the villain to the very end, there are a few things left dangling. How did Garry survive that? What exactly is going on with Mary? Could have been explained better.
I also think that Mary was given too much of a Mr Exposition role, and while it was important that those things be explained, Mary should have had more scenes that didn't involve her spouting expositions. More scenes where she's just being Mary.
All in all though, while it's not perfect, it's definitely an enjoyable read and worth checkinng out.
