I thought it would suck.

I've watched so many religious movies in my time that I thought this movie was going to be just like the others. Some piece of cat sick that emphasizes how wonderful Jesus is, has a bunch of bells and whistles, and armies of demons burning to their deaths...okay, that last one kind of happens. But what I loved about this movie is it's sense of subtlety. The main character's superpowers are kind of mundane-looking: she can make objects twirl in place and revive the dead. Not very flashy. Also, the demons and angels of the movie look and act just like everyone else; no One-Winged Angel forms, just people who turn up to do their part to help in the absolute nick of time. Yeah, the climax does get worked up, but it's the climax of a movie that uses angels and demons as plot devices; it's almost obligated to do the things it did. And the thing that interests me the most is that this isn't entirely a movie of good versus evil, which gets trite after a while; it's mostly about a mother who wants to protect her child and gets wrapped up in a battle of good versus evil.

And the little girl's interactions with the baddies throughout the movie are awesome.

So, if you get the opportunity, check this film out. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't. But I certainly enjoyed it.
