Burnt right down to cinders (v0.2.0)

Review was published when the game was in v0.2.0 (most likely the final update, but mentioning just in case).

  • Theme: Burning things. Not utilized super well (the layers and resources fit the name, with ashes, embers, coal, and electricity, but it's not explored as there are no upgrade names or particular references).
  • Gameplay and core mechanics: You produce embers each second and have a Flame Strength percentage that goes down gradually. Once the percentage hits 0, production halts and you need to reset for ashes. Once you have enough coal, you can reset automatically once it's at 10%. Electricity also lets you assign a multiplier percentage to three values based on its resource.
  • Balancing and difficulty: Very fast and easy. No parts of the game require thinking from the player. Maybe there's a little challenge in making the most efficient ash resets or getting the ideal electric bar setup, but that hardly counts for anything.
  • Content on offer: Very short, you can see all the in-game stuff in less than ten minutes. Three small layers.
  • Polish and miscellaneous additions: No interesting additions, but no noticeable issues like bugs and typos.

In general, while the core mechanic and theme is decent, the game does not utilize them in a particularly engaging way. There's not enough content to satisfy potential players, and you'll either forget the game as soon as you're done or be sad over its missed potential (there is a Miners layer in the game's code, but it's inaccessible).

Overall rank: E (Poor)
